Today Zynga, the leading gaming company on Facebook, blew past the 100 million monthly active users level through their network of games. Much of the support has come from FarmVille which is not only the company’s largest game, but also the largest application on Facebook by an extremely large margin. FarmVille should also become the largest application ever on the Facebook application within the next day or two, surpassing the “How Well Do You Know Me?” application’s previous record of 35,554,755 monthly active users.
Based on daily active users, the application is already the largest ever by a large number. With over 12 million daily active users, the company has almost doubled the previous record set by the competing farming game on Facebook: Farm Town. One thing is clear: farming is rapidly becoming big business on Facebook. There are now over 72 million farmers on Facebook across the top farming applications. Just about every game developer is getting into the farming business.
The second largest Facebook developer, Playfish, has launched Country Story to cash in on the Facebook farming phenomenon. In just two weeks, their application has quadrupled in size from 1.4 million monthly active users to well over 4 million. There are now 9 farming applications among the top 109 Facebook applications as tracked by our Facebook application statistics tracker. That’s over 72 million farmers on Facebook based on monthly active users.
Just two weeks ago I suggested that the company could soon see 100 million users and it appears that the projection was right. The only question now is how large can FarmVille get? The game continues to grow by leaps and bounds resulting in 25 percent overall growth in Zynga’s monthly traffic just in the past two weeks. If you had any question how large social gaming could get, look no further than the current Facebook farming phenomenon.

FarmVille is really an amazing game and people really consider it and play more effectively. Zynga really gonna rock with Farm Ville.

There we go! It was always expected, with the top gaming apps under their belt Zynga was sure to surpass this milestone. Personally I feel that the Farmville dominance will continue for a longer period than expected.

What I find more interesting is despite FarmVille's dominance there are half a dozen other farm apps that do exceptionally well – without having to be number one. I think ultimately that's a huge motivator in the dev community.

Based on a sampling of 4 farmville addict in my famuly (but not me!) I would say most farmvillers are getting a bit titred of the daily tamagochi routine and suspect rapid decline for the game in the next 4-6 months (but Zynga will have many new games out, no problem, once we are past the farming "meme" there will be another savor of the month).

I don't quite understand why Zynga's Farmville is the one to stand out from many other farm games out there, which have much better graphics and game play.

I'm enjoying Farmville so much, it got me thinking how about a doll house "game"?? Would definitely bring back many fond memories of hours playing with my dollhouse!!

Yeah. I love farmville

As a Farmville "addict" myself I'd just like to say thank-you for paying attention to what we really want out there. When we was getting tired of clicking so much on our crops we got tractors, when we wanted to earn more cash you gave us cash when we go up on levels etc.. The ultimate Farmville toolbar is awsome. Thanks and kep up the good work by listening to us.

I agree with Lisa. I have always preferred FarmTOWN over FarmVILLE. And I'm rather annoyed about the whole situation with Yoville right now as well.

Zynga is getting greedy. They aren't listening to their users at all. All they are listening to is the little hungry voice in their pocketbooks. Shame on you, Zynga. You are about to lose a LOT of 'customers'.
Comment by Fey — September 19, 2009 @ 1:44 pm
Zynga is ruining FarmVille, just like they are ruining YoVille.

I really love farmville…but the only thing that frustrates me was that the more I leveled-up the more it is becoming slower.

For over a week now I cannot get anything on Farmville. I keep getting an error that says Page you requested not found , has moved or is incorrect, do you know why this happened?
