YouTube Adds Facebook Connect

-YouTube Logo-Talk about a big fish … today YouTube announced that they are now supporting Facebook Connect. While there was a previous YouTube campaign which integrated Facebook Connect, this is the first official implementation. In a blog post on the Facebook developer blog, Josh Elman writes that, “When logged into Facebook and YouTube, users can now automatically publish and share the videos they upload to YouTube directly to Facebook.” It’s interesting to see a Google owned company take advantage of Facebook Connect considering the company’s investment in making their other social standards more widespread.

According to Facebook, Joost has also implemented Facebook Conenct and since implementing it in December, the average Facebook user has watched 30 percent more videos and has entered 15 percent more comments. The message is clear: implementing Facebook Connect on your site, tends to increase engagement across the board. Every site that has integrated with Connect has reported that overall activity has increased since launch.

Facebook Connect is now reaching millions of users and while we don’t know the exact number of users that have logged in using Facebook Connect, the number has to be well over 5 million at this point considering the large services they’ve integrated with. While compete.com claims that Facebook Connect reached over 64 million users last month, there’s no way of determining what percentage of those users actually logged in with the service.

Connect will continue to be an extremely important tool for locking users in to Facebook well into the future. The quicker that Connect can get implemented on sites, the faster Facebook will ensure that users don’t leave. As many have already reported, while disabling your Facebook account is easy, removing all of the information from your account is not as easy. Have you tried going through the process of deleting every wall post and message from your account? It’s definitely not easy.

With last week’s announcement of XBox Live’s integration with Facebook Connect, and the launch of Connect on the Nintendo DSi, Facebook continues to rapidly expand its reach. Are there any extremely interesting implementations of Facebook Connect that you’ve seen? Let us know in the comments!

  4. Well it ain't OAuth but we'll take it… this is a very powerful way for brands to get targeted sharabiltiy and discovery from one very big platform into another. We're on it!…

  5. This is my first time using FB Connect. I have to say that it's very nice to simply click the connect icon to port my account over to a new site rather than to register over and over again. Clearly it's been said before, but FB Connect will certainly push social media to entirely new levels as consumer participation will increase due to the improved simplicity of sharing. That said, it doesn't surprise me that YT chose to implement FB Connect; I mean, why wouldn't they?

  9. Facebook Connect may just become a universal login for all web users should it take off. I think that in the next 12 to 15 months, we will know if facebook connect gets put on the table to become acquired by Google or MSN/Yahoo.
