You Won’t Win Friends With “Facebook Friend Bomber”

Last night I was browsing the web and came upon a post advertising mass Facebook friend adding. I had to check it out because God knows that I want 10,000 friends on Facebook that I don’t even know. Well you are actually limited to 5,000 friends on Facebook currently but I definitely don’t want to load up on people that I have no relation to whatsoever. The software is called “Facebook Friend Adder” but for some reason the audio on the site calls it “Facebook Friend Bomber.”

Anybody that decided it would be a good idea to end a product name with “Friend Bomber” probably doesn’t deserve to make many sales. As such, I thought I would protect my readers from making the poor decision of purchasing this product. Soon enough, this application will be blocked and will no longer be functional. While increasing the number of friends you have on Facebook can be useful for promotional purposes, using this software to do so is a horrible idea.

Oh and in case you were wondering you can now purchase this product and send out “Mass Facebook Amber Alerts.” Is this person serious? This is the biggest waste of money I have ever seen. Disagree? Be sure to let me know about it in the comments!

  3. Oh gawd, what a bunch of croc! Sadly, I think this is just the beginning of a slew of crappy products like this that scores of gullible people – with more credit on their credit card than sense – will actually purchase. Tragic. I dug around to find who's behind this thing: Knox Crosdale (with a mere 53 FB friends) who calls himself Doc Hollywood. Sorry to see he also has a bunch of other similar products. The whole "mass" thing takes away the purpose and intent of social media – to build relationships… real ones, not pseudo ones with complete strangers. Ah, hello? It's called spam.(I did watch one of the sample videos and was amused to see the disclaimer at the bottom: "Important: Stealth Friend Bomber is intended only as an automated way of promoting yourself or band. In no way should it be used for spam." Hmmm.

  5. How true. Aside from the sad fact that this app will lure plenty of gullible fools (thank God it's marked down from its original price of $87!) the real value is FB is the huge benefit to be gained by the slow, methodical, and personal acquisition of real friends on the platform.

  9. Here's what I think. The bots are not the problem. It's the people who use them. These people that spam with bots have no concept of what true viral marketing and social networking is. There is no way I will accept or acknowledge a friend request from anyone who is going to pitch to me penis enlargement supplements, free ipods, and etc. It just lets me know how much marketing savy they have. No matter how it is delivered, if manually or by bot, its still SPAM and I hate that! Now if I was into snowboarding or scuba diving and someone asked for a friend request saying " hey look I saw your profile,I snowboard also. In fact, I snowboard every winter, I go with a group of friends and we rent out this cabin with a champagne jacuzzi in each room. We get wasted after hitting the half pipes all day and just have a good time while we are out there. I saw you were into snowboarding also. I would like to add you into my circle of snowboarding friends online, is that cool?" Now I can target snowboarders online and send that out to all of them. Is it spam? I don't think so because I'm striking a conversation with the person and not pitching a product or a message. Please correct me if I'm wrong on this. I'm only acknowledging a shared and enjoyed interest in snowboarding. If I did this with 50 snowboarders manually or with a bot, what difference would it make. I'm connecting with an individual and not trying to shove a message down their throat. Personally I can't use bots at my workplace because they are strict with what we can download into the work computers. However if they would let us, I would use it that way. Please tell me your thoughts.

  17. A friend of ours used a similar program to this and was able to add over 2000 people in only a couple of days. The account remained active for 5 months and then was banned..Maybe moderation is the key if you choose to use this.

  18. Well, well, well – I would never buy a product that used the word “bomb” in it. Nor would I buy it based on “bomb” friends….

As for mass-marketing your product, it seems to be a good idea. Spam always exists – no matter where you look. Just depends on whether what you are being advertised does not interest you – then it’s bad spam.

Penis enlargement ads appeal to certain men.

Increasing ones boobs appeal to some women.

I think the main reason people are upset with the owner / author of this product, is that he is charging for mass-marketing via a very big webportal, namely Facebook.com

If it was free, would you complain?

  19. Just to let you know if you wonder why would somebody purchase this? for Spam buddy, all the blackhat marketers use this kind of software to spam and get "sign ups" which generate us money with our fake accounts :) Put some thought into it: 5,000 Friends – a convertion ratio of about 1% that's 50 sign ups at $20 dollars a sign up? 1K hrm not a bad a idea, now multiply that by 10 facebook accounts? ;) You get the point?

    Cheers

  20. Let’s see:

    5,000 friends
    x
    5,000 PROFILES

= 25 MILLION on my list (give or take some dupes)
    and
only 15% of the total FB population…

    Outrageous! Criminal! Sick! umm, PROFITABLE

  27. Moderation is key. You can build a legitimate network of people by targeting people in groups. By sending about 50 freind requests a day you can build a network of like minded individuals without wasting your life clicking around on facebook. In my mind it's a legitimate tool to locate and network with people with whom you may do business, share ideas with, and learn from.

  31. If this works you can use this software to market your products on facebook but be careful because there is a great chance that your account will be banned if you overuse this little tool. Just create a new account if you use this so you won't be risking your real facebook account.

  33. Firstly, if you can’t see why someone might want to use this, then you shouldn’t be writing a post slandering it.

    I’ve used this and:

    1. It works.
    2. It works well.
    3. The traffic is converting well.

I’m really shocked that, running a site all about Facebook, you didn’t even try this product or investigate its possible marketing uses before ripping into it.

    Unimaginative, if nothing else.

  38. Hi there,

I can see your point of view but as an Internet marketer I also completely understand why this product was created. Intermit marketers are using facebook to market products and services online, they do this by linking up with like minded people. The way this product works allows you to add friends in bulk but you do this by bringing up a facebook group or page so you are actually adding people that are like minded and interested in the same sort of thing as you. I expect the same benefit could be had for people that like playing those games on facebook like farmville etc.

Hope that makes sense, I experimented with the free trial but haven't bought the product and thought I'd just share with you the other point of view on this.

    Regards
    Steve
