Wildfire, one of the leading social media marketing platforms, announced a new product today which enables Facebook Page administrators with “Group Deals” which “enables businesses, brands and agencies to easily create and run their own Groupon-like deals on their Facebook Fan Pages and websites”. Given all the buzz surrounding Groupon, LivingSocial, and other large group buying services, this product sounds like a great fit.
While not currently positioned as a tool for submitting to other social buying services, we could see other companies forging deals with Wildfire to have them serve as a publishing platform for deals which integrate into other distribution channels. Just like Wildfire’s other products, there are varying degrees of customization available to Page administrators depending on which service you choose. Wildfire has partnered with Paypal to offer secure transactions directly from a company’s Facebook Page or website.
This is definitely a valuable product that I think many companies will take advantage of. You can learn more about the service on Wildfire’s website.

Why pay their fees when you can do an entire campaign on your own with Google Checkout, etc.? Of course, you'd have to do a little extra work yourself, but it would totally be worth it considering the savings.

One word comes to mind, “FRAUD”. How are they going to authenticate if the actual page is owned by the service provider or retailer? Anyone can create a page… let’s say someone creates a promotion, “Beverly Hills Hotel” and runs a promotion for $10 a night.

Hey Derek!
Thanks for commenting. I think its important to consider that each group deal runs inside of a Fan Page on Facebook– in this way, big brands (like the hotel chain) have their very own Fan Pages with an established fan base…and that's hard to fake. Likewise, there is a security process involved in verifying a merchant account with PayPal, which each Group Deal admin must have, or must establish prior to running their deal. In this way, there is negative incentive to create fraudulent campaigns, as fraudulent merchants can be penalized by PayPal.
I think what you will find is that Fan Page admins on Facebook really do care a lot about building their user communities. And for those people, this Group Deal app will be a real draw.
Thanks again for your feedback!

I'm trying to use the group buy now. It definitely has me excited, but support seems slim to none. That is pouring water on my enthusiasm for it.

Hi,
Could be translated to another languages? Maybe spanish and the currency to mexican pesos or anothers?

Interesting/About time; this is a natural for Wildfire. Wondering why they decided to go with Paypal rather than working with Facebook and the Credits system…
Comment by Jed Singer — July 27, 2010 @ 8:49 am
Smart move by Wildfire, that's where most group deals are shared. If recipients can quickly buy while they are on Facebook it should mean more sales for merchants.
@Jed Singer: I think it's because Facebook charges quite a bit to use its Credits system.
