Why Can’t I Access Facebook?

That’s the question an unknown number of Facebook users have been asking Facebook over the past week. Numerous users have been unable to access their account for the past 6 days and there doesn’t appear to be any end in site. I’ve personally had about 10 to 20 people contact me about the issue, however I get about 50 inquiries a day about personal Facebook issues, which is why this didn’t really stand out at first. However for accounts to be inaccessible for a week is a extremely uncommon.

-Account Unavailable Message-

As one person told us, “I am now on day 6 also..I am so sick of this. Are our accounts ever going to be restored??? Has anyone been able to get back on yet??? And further more I emailed FB about 20 times and never got any responses back…..” Another commenter said, “day 6 finished work early just so fed up! Oh farmville i miss you. As a pilot i really should be thinking about my flight but fb is all i think about HELP!!!”

So when is Facebook coming back for these users? We have no idea. Earlier this week, Facebook told CNET, “We are currently experiencing a technical issue with one of our databases that is resulting in an extended period of maintenance for some users. We are working on a fix now and hope to have this resolved in the next 24 hours.” Since then there has been no update but many users still can’t access the site. The message these users receive are the standard: “Your account is temporarily unavailable due to site maintenance. It should be available again within a few hours. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

Given that so many people are complaining makes me assume that at least a few thousand people have been effected, however it’s difficult to speculate since there has been few details provided by the company. Have you been able to access the site? Do you have any friends who’s accounts are unaccessible?

I have been having sporadic problems connecting. Often, if I click the refresh button in my browser, I am subsequently able to connect. It's worth a try.

I manage the profile for Classified, one of Canada's top hip-hop artists in Canada, and his page has been unavailable for a week as well.

With 26,000 fans, it's our primary way of communicating with fans, and not being able to talk to them is really hindering my marketing plans.

It's definitely woken me up to the fact that we all need to be more proactive in building our own databases outside of social networks.

It's super frustrating that FB isn't telling us anything about this. It makes me worry that we've lost our page for good – although I'm still able to send updates to fans and access the back end of things. It's strange.

Hopefully we'll get some info and hopefully a solution out of them this week.

I have not been able to access my account for one full week (since last Saturday night, on Oct. 3rd).

Sent more reports and emails to FB's customer service (there's an oxymorin for ya!), and not one reply. I highly doubt now at this point, that whatever the problem is will be abled to be fixed. Apparently they have no backup either. It took them 3 days before they even admitted there was any problem, and they have continued to ignore, neglect and trounce on us members, YET –they have the time and gall to announce and release new FB Apps instead? http://bit.ly/17l2me , as well as Tweet about everything but this mess on their Twitter page? I am able to access my account, but have been having a lot of difficulties with layout and positioning of various components (since Wednesday night). Also have been clicking on emails with links back to Facebook and not arriving where I'm supposed to be! I thought maybe I was in some secret "test group" of a new layout, but the more I'm hearing of problems like this, the more I think I'm just in FB hiccup hell!

My account is apparently on this database. It's been inaccessible since 10/3/09. Facebook support is non-existant. Repeated attempts to contact them have gone ignored. They haven't posted a status update since Tuesday. I've created a new account. It wiil allow me to reuse my username which should not be available.

Day 8 now with no access. I am guessing many people have no idea whether or not their friends are having login issues, since you would actually need to try to look at their profile. Really disappointed in they way FB has handled this. Truly, this is one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had with any company paid or free (including other freebies like yahoo and youtube – both of which used to hold the respective #1&#2 worst customer service spots in my personal rating system), and that is saying a lot! Will I stay should I ever get back on? Of course, that is where my friends hang out so I will be there too. That said, it will be a long time before I have anything good to say about the site or the company again and I sure as hell will not be relying on it to store contact information for family and friends going forward.

I also haven't been able to access Facebook since last night (10/9). I was able to access through a "facebook issue" link but eventually it kicked me off when I attempted to go to my "home" page. At first, I was getting a message saying that there are site issues, not it is saying due to site maintenance.

I have been down for a full seven days now, Site maintenance. I don't believe the company line. Something big has happened and it has Facebook scrambling. I follow it on Twitter and every day there are more people locked out. It seems to have started on the 3rd but there are people getting the site maintenance for the first time every day. It's a bad situation getting worse and it's my opinion that Facebook is scrambling so hard to keep the rest of the users from getting knocked off that they don't have time to fix the problem for the users that are already booted.

Farmville is very frustrating, I am ready to just let it rot and find a site that actually is capable of what it promises. I worked very hard to get to the level I am on, and am losing money and crops because I cannot axcess the site. I wonder, does anyone know of any other web sites that offer games?

I can't access Facebook, this stinks, my cousin told me tonight that she had tried to email me but my profile is not available and can't email me through Facebook. Which abyss is all of our profiles hiding in. Everyone else that I have asked that I work with and friends that I have talked to don't have any problems accessing. This is just so weird. A fix after 24hours what a joke that was. Someone at Facebook must know what is going on. As much as I hated MySpace I hate to even say that I have been one of the ones to log in at least the people that I have been trying to get in contact with can be found and they can find me. I hope that once this problems is fixed that Fb goes back and learns more about customer service and the importance of COMMUNICATION hence the entire reason that we all use FB to begin with.

this has been happening for the last month for me… its either the afore-mentioned problem or just IE telling me that it can't access the website because it is not available or does not exist. and firefox/chrome almost always loads a page of source coding gibberish which looks a bit like the wingdings font. HELP!!!

i haven't been able to access my account since Sunday(last week) i tried to email them but i got no luck,it's really awful situation i have long distance family members and friends ,the facebook was a really good way to keep in touch with them .i really hope that they'll fix this problem soon .

There is also a problem myself and many friends are having being unable to see our friends list and in many of the applications, unable to send requests since there are no friends listed in the "send to" area.

I've been having issues with posting. I can get on FB, but it sometimes won't allow me to respond to a post. Also, it's been difficult to suggest friends. Lots of little things that are driving me crazy. I ran everything I could on my laptop to straighten it out, but no results. Glad to hear it's not me.

YES, I am one of the poor folks that cannot access FB! Going on day 8 now and I’m still getting the maintenance error message. I cannot believe FB hasn’t emailed me to let me know what is going on. Terrible customer service! I’m probably going to start a new profile later today. I’m in central Florida, by the way.

I have not been able to access since October 5th, I'm in Iraq and all I want is to be able to see my friends and family. This is so lame, it seems very odd, that I have no issues with getting to the site, but once I log in, it is only my profile that is locked out. There are others here that can access just fine. What is the deal?

This is dumb. How can so many customers be having an issue and there not be a formal statement as to what is happening and when the issue should be resolved? Nice to know that the site is worth billions of dollars and they can't spend a little on customer service.

I also have been locked out since last Saturday. I have sent a few emails to support but no response. I actually hacebeen using FB for personal and business networking, and it is a major dissaointment in they way they are handling this problem. If they just were to say we have lost all of your account info due to..whatever. I would just set up a new acoount a refriend all my freinds and swt up a new account, pain in the A? yes but would rather do that then be strung along. My company even advertises on the site, so you would think…..saying all that I have bben much more productive at work the past week

This has been as issue for about 6 weeks. I have even moved to Foxfire, but it doesn't help. All I get are symbols–sometimes over 1/2 the page, sometimes all the page. IF I am able to log on, I cannot do anything. I just get a message telling me that I am not connected to the Internet!

Since I am not paying for the use of the site, I figure I don't have a right to complain. However, I wonder if advertisers realize that their money is wasted.

Me too – unable to access FB for over a week now. I live in Australia and most of my friends and all of my family is in the US – FB is a communication lifeline for us. After this (assuming there is an "after" … it feels pretty hopeless right now) – I won't depend on FB nearly so much. I'll go back to regular blog updates and mass emails of photos, etc. When friends try to access my profile (say, to try to wish me happy birthday last week … sniff, sniff) they get a message "Profile Unavailable. Sorry, this profile is not available at the moment. Please try again shortly." It is astonishing to me that FB is so unresponsive. We may only be a smidgen of the total users, but have they never heard of the customer complaint iceberg?! And think of the impact to FB service resources by NOT communicating proactively about this issue! This will certainly damage their reputation.

Yup unable to access since 05/10 and facebook have been very quite about it. I think our accounts have been compromised and fb are desperately trying to keep a lid on it. I will be cancelling my acc if it ever comes back

Its been two weeks with no access, only a site maintenance message indicating that the site will be back in a few hrs. I will be looking for a new platform to connect with friends & family. I have given up on this poorly run site.

Thank you, Caroline McCarthy, for your September 16, 2009 CNet News.com article. I just sent the following comment via the Facebook Site Maintenance issues feedback site:

Still having site maintenance issues, since late Sat Oct 3/early Sun Oct 4. Current day/date/time is Monday Oct 12, 8:02 am EDT.

In a prior comment I wondered if the person handling the errant server was on vacation. To my amazement, I just found this info in a CNet News article by Caroline McCarthy from September 16, 2009: "Zuckerberg's blog post also highlighted a new trend in his rhetoric about the company he founded in 2004 as an undergraduate at Harvard: They run a tight ship. Or at least that's what he says.

"The site we all use every day is built by a relatively small group of the smartest engineers and entrepreneurs who are solving substantial problems and each making a huge impact for the 300 million people using Facebook," he wrote. "In fact, the ratio of Facebook users to Facebook engineers makes it so that every engineer here is responsible for more than one million users. It's hard to have an impact like that anywhere else."

Well, Mark, this past week-plus has had QUITE the impact for what I can only imagine (since FB is not talking about this situation publicly) to be a large number of Facebook users. PLEASE communicate what the problem is! PLEASE let us know if it is better that we bite the bullet & build new accounts OR just stop checking to see if we can log in, if there are security issues that we need to address, etc. If you were doing more to address this PUBLICLY in an ongoing fashion, you wouldn't be getting flooded with emails, phone calls, bad press and angry blogging.

I am one the the MANY that have not had access to our accounts for 8 days now. They make it sound like it is a FEW people, but I am sure that is also a fabrication. There have been no real updates from Facebook in days. So, they have acknowledged the issue, BIG DEAL. We just want it fixed. If this really is a database issue, FIX IT! NO company that is internet-based should EVER EVER EVER allow users to be down for 8 days. This may be a free site, but the advertisers PAY for placement/views on that site. How long until THEY start complaining as well?

I am one of the ones being affected. I am so glad I am not maintaining a page for a business! From what I can tell, most of us woke up a week ago from this past Saturday morning to check our email, check our Facebook and then got the bloody "site maintenance" error. For the first few days the error said to check back "in a few hours". Now it says they are working on it. . .

I agree with what Rose said above- Just tell us the problem! Can they please just email us and say what it is and when they MIGHT expect us to be back up. I went and created a new profile but it's not the same. Plus, I hate looking like one of those persons who finally decided to go see what all this Facebook hoo-ha is about- Hello 2005!

Rose, I too am part of the FB crowd unable to access my account due to 'site maintenance' and like yourself (and many others) all of my free browsing time is now spent trying to find out some information about this problem. Yes, digging, rooting, searching, endless searching. Their has to be something out there, or their must be someone that knows something, it's getting worryingly obsessive now, but what else can can we do? Seeing as FB will not give us any information whatsoever, all that has emerged is gossip and speculation.

By not being open and honest with us they are damaging there reputation enormously, so much so that I am reading on many blogs that people are so angry that they have now simply had it with Facebook and will be deleting their accounts altogether, when, or indeed if they ever get back into them. I am now beginning to think like that too. It is incredibley inconsiderate for FB to treat its customers in this fashion. Is it just rudeness? or is their something much darker happening? The speculation continues….

I have been affected since Oct 4. It is now 10 days of no FB. Friends have called to see if I was alive since they've seen no movement on my account. The account is unavailable to them. I can not get into my Yoville account and have been also called up by my friends there as well. I am very upset that there is no feedback from the company. I have business contacts there and I am currently looking for a job. I will give it another week before I try setting up a new account. I just don't want to lose everything in my Yoville account. I worked really hard to get to level 43 of 50. Damn site maintenance!

The only good thing that has come out of this FB cold turkey is that I now have time to finish drafting homework and cook for my family. Bejeweled just isn't the same unless you can try to beat the scores of your family and friends. Just one more minute! I think the withdraw symptoms have finally started to abate. Now if I could just stop breaking into my kids FB pages to play while they are at school…

Living without FB in the DC area since October 3 one day at a time.

Mine has been down for 8 days now. I hate the way Facebook management is handling this issue. They changed the error message a few days ago and they did post a note on the Help menu but still I feel they are not coming clear as to what the problem is exactly or even when in gods name is it supposed to be fixed. For being a social site they surely lack a lot of social skills.

I have not been able to access Facebook for over a week now. I cannot get any replies. Is there any other update to inform us when we will be up and running? This is extremely frustrating for me. I have a party on Saturday and I posted an invite on Facebook. I have no idea who is coming, if anyone, because no one has access to my profile. Please get me an update if you have one.

In today's (10-12-) comments, I just saw a post by Dutch10 who is finally able to access their FB account. When Dutch logged in, this message appeared:

Taking heart from Dutch10's post, I tried logging in to FB. Still no go. Hope they can dig my old stuff on some old server somewhere, soon… :::::sigh:::::

I've been unable to use my facebook page since 10/3. No one I know is haveing this same problem but people have been contacting me the old fashioned way to ask if I've deleted my FB page.

I use FB as a marketing tool and to connect with old friends, this unintentional break has been a nuisance but not a life destroyer. I just wish Facebook had a better customer service policy.

I want to know why this is happening and how it's being fixed. Facebook makes it very hard to contact them with any issue unless it has to do with Mafia Wars.

iPhone app isn't working either.

I feel bad for people who haven't been able to log in for over a week. That sucks. I guess this is a good sign for me to do other productive things though.

I couldn’t log-in for 24 hours, but when I tried unchecking the “Remeber Me” box on the log-in page, I got in. If I log-out and then return to the Facebook log-in page, the “Remember Me” box is checked … why, I don’t know. I have to uncheck it again to get access. Weird. But at least I’m in.

I am back on now, after 9 days. Since this could happen again, I found a Firefox add-on that backs up your Facebook account, friends list, pictures, etc, directly to your hard drive. I installed it and worked fine for me, I hope you find it useful.

started happening to me last night. WTF?? how does a company that large have problems like this and NOT communicate what in the world is going on? Whatever the issue is it seems to be rolling thru the data base still. I looked on the help side and it said it was resolved, but my account begs to differ.

Its very frustrating….

I live in Spain and I haven’t been able to login for two days. Well, yesterday I could login and do a few things – go to my inbox, for instance – but then I couldn’t read any of my emails. Or I couldn’t post anything to my wall. A day later, and now I can’t even log in! How can we contact directly with Facebook to have them made aware of our particular issues? I go to the “Help” section and there is no way to contact them directly.

i havent been able to access my acount for the 2 hours . it was working all right and when i restarted my computer it just wont log me in it always says the page cannot be displayed . and its only the log in page that does not work

This is ridiculous! My profile page says I have "0 friends," half the time I can't access my page, I can't access my friends pages because FB thinks I have no friends. I can't even update my own status half the time w/o hitting "share" at least 10 times. I've given up for the time being and am taking a break because I just don't have time to wait on FB. It makes me sad, and I'll lose out on connecting with my friends, but what else can I do? FB is obviously not interested in fixing this problem. It's seriously frustrating and infuriating! UGH!

I've been able to see my account, but am unable to post comments or communicate using the I-M, and when I've checked incoming comments they are not appearing in the expected format. Refreshing, Restarting Firefox, and even Restarting my computer are having no effect. Blah.

I'm glad to see that it's not just me, though.

Same issue here. I can only log in half the time, and when I do, my friends usually don't show up. Updates are missing. Quite frustrating.

I can seem to use the mobile site on my blackberry, but the blackberry app won't log in at all.

Have also gone about a week. I bet my crops on farmville are dead, and i burnt my cakes on yoville. It must be a sign that my addiction was getting out of control. Either way, I happy that I am able to get more productive stuff done, but yet pissed to the fact that I am not even able to check my mail and posts. Facebook could be more professional and send out emails to those it is affecting. I have spent 40 dollars on a registry cleaner, in hopes that this was the issue, not the case. I'm about ready to delete my account with facebook and stick with myspace only.

Hi.

I have been on the site and planted an entire crop of Blueberries about three hours ago in Farmville…. and now i can't log on to Facebook, i, too, am getting the "site maintenance" message.

Funny thing is that i am currently taking care of three Farmville farms of my boyfriend and his nephew, both of them out of town for the weekend, and those two accounts have no problems at all, only mine.

Oh well, i hope they get it sorted…. i'd hat to start a new account and start at zero in Farmville again.

Alright this is getting to the rediculous. It's been 4 days for me where I haven't been able to get on facebook. Those damn administrators NEVER get back to me either. I just want facebook to know that I'm the president of a very large association and I get messages every day. Now I can't respond to any of them and my reputation has been going down the drain. I never should have relied on this stupid website for a business.

MANY issues with this! Every once in a very great while I can log in normally but mostly, if I do manage to get in, nothing is accessible other than games – no friends, no updates, no messages, no privacy settings or others. This has been going on for almost two weeks now!

I haven't been able to acces my profile for about 6 days now, have emailed FB customer services with no response.

Will they ever fix this?

My family live abroad so I use FB all the time to keep in touch so this is a real pain for me.

I hope they inform us soon of what is going on!!

I am having the same issues still. Even when I am able to log on I have no friends and can't access much of anything. All of my photo albums are gone as well. It's been a week and no word from FB! Very sad, indeed!

OK this is really really really annoying!!!! my account had been doing this for a week also, today i cant get into it at all!!!! driving me crazy, i got a text from a friend asking why had i deleted her from my friends list GRRRRRR come on FB where are all my friends why have they gone & why cant i login???? get that same message everyone seems to be getting, sometimes i can log in but with no information or friends.

I use firefox, and I have tried accessing in IE, and I have had the same issues as some of you… when I load, it gives me a bunch of symbols…letters… n numbers!!!! Once and a while, it will load the login page, and I can login… once I do tho, I have to keep my browser open!!! I usually can get to my apps thru the bookmark bar, but accessin the home page???? FORGET ABOUT IT!!!! I hate them.

My account lets me on every now and then. It always says this stupid maintenance crap. If it does let me on, I have no friends and can not even see my boyfriends profile, because it says we are not friends. This is a joke, and it needs to be fixed!

I have had this message all day today and my husband says he has no problem. We live in the UK. Really pissed off. Can’t even find a contact email for facebook to complain. When I click on Contact Facebook, all it brings is useless question and answer bits with no contact facility. Absolutely pathetic!

Looks like the problem that everyone is describing (your account is under maintenance) just started for me yesterday (10/23) afternoon. It’s been less than a day, but I’m not encouraged by all the reports of it taking days and days to fix. The funny thing is I first noticed it from my phone and on that device, I kept getting a message that I had typed my password incorrectly, so I hit the password reset button. It wasn’t until I got home and got on the computer that I realized it was a different issue. Now when I go to the password reset link they emailed me, I get the message, “We’re sorry, password reset isn’t available right now. Please try again later.” I’ve been getting this message since yesterday too. The maintenance error comes up when I go through the regular log-in page.

I am getting the same error on two different computers- I cannot log in and it says there is maintenance going on. Nothing I can do to access my account. Yet I know other friends of mine are on Facebook fine ?

I get the “Account Unavailable due to site maintenance. It should be available within a few hours yet it has been two days. I see however I am not alone yet still quite frustrating .

This is like a plague spreading across the country. Kind of like 28 days later. We have no idea who is affected and when or what? No contact from Help, no nothing- just a slow and torturous death of our accounts. I’ve been in and out of this coma for 2 weeks now. Sometimes I’m able to log in and sometimes I get that same bullshit maintenance message.

I login to a blank home page, and from there all I can access is my inbox. Not my profile, not my friends profiles, nothing. My friends whose profiles are working just fine can’t see my profile. I don’t even get an error message, I just get nothing. That includes a response from FB as to whether my profile, including all my photos, are now gone if I can never access my profile again and need to create a new one. I even tried deactivating and reactivating my account, in the hopes to try to reset it somehow, but that didn’t work either.

Doesn’t it make you wonder if facebook is perhaps not a secure sight? Were they hacked into…is that the problem? I too have been getting “Account unavailable..blah, blah” off and on for days now. Today, I am completely shut out. I also noticed some weird things happening to my account previous to today and perhaps that should have given me some clues that this was going to happen. I don’t really care except I was suppose to meet a long lost friend on Nov 3rd, but I have to confirm where. I don’t have a phone number, address, etc and need to access my account to get all that. This is a little like locking your car keys in the car. You can see them on the seat, but you just can’t reach them. SUCKS!

Day 5 for me. No where on farcebook is there a place to contact them, or a message to say what is going on. Still getting notifications from them about friends posting on walls etc but i cant access them. Its showing 0 friends, 0 wall posts etc.

I have been unable to access my facebook page since last Thursday. I got on some how through all of the links I clicked on through Help, but everything was different. Most pages gave me an error. I have contacted facebook numerous times and have been unsuccessful. HELP!!!

I received the above message (the ‘Account Unavailable’ one in the pink box)on Sunday night around 11 pm PST. It is now nearly 6 pm PST on Monday and I have been unsuccessful in my log-in attempts during the past hour. I receive the pink box.~ So, it’s not 24 hours yet, but I used to be able to sneak into my account through a developers Help route. Not this time. The last time my account was down (about a month ago) I could still engage in some activities.
~~~ I am screening for viruses and removing cookies daily before going to facebook. That leaves me to believe it’s their problem. ~~ One more thing: I reported them to the Better Business Bureau in their area of California during the last episode. My biggest complaint is the NON-communication. Why do they hide from us? A blanket explanation and giving an estimated time for them to have things ‘fixed’ would help with customer relations. Then if things are not restored by the stated time, an update! Is that SO difficult???

I have been having problems accessing facebook for over 2 weeks now and the problem just seems to be getting worse. At first it just wouldn’t let me in but if I persisted it would work. Now I’m not receiving any notifications, I can’t comment or post anything and people are unable to communicate with me. Now today I just can’t get in full stop. It’s ridiculous! I use it as a backup for all of my photos and to communicate with friends all over the world. If I don’t get my account back, I’ve lost it all. I actually HATE the Facebook developers at this moment in time!!!!!!

I haven’t been able to get into FB for at least 6 days. I think it’s irresponsible, unresponsive and very bad PR for the people at Facebook not to provide us with any updates or explanantions of the continued problem. I was a latecomer to social networking, and this kind of thing makes it seem less appealing. e-mail seems much easier.

I’ve had very difficult and sporadic access to my facebook account for about the last week. After several log in attempts I would get some access to my account and very occasionally everything would work. This morning it failed totally. I haven’t been able to get in at all. It’s really frustrating. I can’t get in to my apps, so there will be withered crops and burned bakery items. Not only that but I actually communicate with a lot of friends and acquaintances on there. All very disappointing. I wish they’d get it worked out.

I have usually been able to get on after a few tries all through the week but some actions i try to complete dont work and today i havent been able to get on at all, i hope this isnt a sign of things to come!!! Frustration!!!

When it says it says try again in a few hours i cant get it at all but in the last week it sometimes changes the message to try again in several minutes on a slightly different screen and then you can usually get in by refreshing the page but today…. nothing!!!!

Has there been an update Nick since your post of 10th oct?

Same thing has been happening to me. Although with the account that has said to be 'under maintenace,' I've been able to connect on to it through Facebook mobile. Eventhough I can do this… it is very limiting. I need FULL facebook access. This is stupid.

I can't access FB either. And I don't even get the maintenance message! All I can see is just "Address Not Found" even though I clicked on the bookmark on Firefox which I use everyday. Other sites are loading very well so it is not the Internet connection problem. What should I do? This is frustrated!

This shows how dependant we are on FB. Can't put too much blame on FB. We all use FB for free and never really pay for it. Shouldn't complain and depend our life on it! Maybe FB is getting too big but do not make enough money to cover their maintenance stuff.

Facebook is a complete mess. Whenever I try to log in, I get a message just telling me to log in again, as if I’ve entered the wrong password or something. I’m from the UK, and have been getting this message on and off for about 2 weeks. When I do get in, the time and date settings are messed-up, some of my friends have vanished and Facebook chat is amazingly slow.
What is going oooooooon????

I live in Maryland. Starting on 11/17/09 my account said it was under maitenance, please try again later. Today 11/18/09 every time I log in, it sends me right back to the log in page stating "you must be logged in to see this page". Is anyone else in Maryland having this problem?

hey guys, I live in the Philippines. The same as what im experiencing now, i can't access my account on facebook. It says there, they are on maintenance. And say there also that i have to wait a FEW HOURS. But I have waited about many hours, still i can't access it. How many days so i can access my account on facebook? Clearly the issue hasnt been solved. i really hope all those people who were first posting messages are back online. cos its been over a month since this was first talked about.

I can log INTO my facebook account, but for the past WEEK it has been in a very weird format. For example, there is so real news feed on the page, all of the buttons that would normally be all over the page are left-aligned straight down the page, and the colors are weird. It is SO annoying, and there is nothing on FB Help to tell me what to do. I've updated all of my internet and computer updates, and it didn't fix it. However, my FB looks normal on everyone else's computer… any ideas?

I've been experiencing the same issue. It started only last week to me. I'm using Firefox. I've tried IE, Google Chrome, Flock. None of them worked. At first, I was able to log in but it won't let me go to home or profile or any other links on the fb page. All I can check is the newsfeed. Then, I tried another link on a google search page and I was able to log in using touch.facebook.com. Next time I tried, it was blocked. I tried m.facebook.com, it got blocked as well.. until all the links on the google page was blocked. I searched for answers on google- one solution they've mentioned is to try opendns. I called our ISP and the tech support rep strictly says not to mess with the dns setting of our modem. The rep advised me to check run setting and ping facebook.com anyway he told me that FB web is ok and it is possible that it is a malware or a virus that is blocking this one website that I often use. BTW, I can access other websites. I can access FB with other computers. I am thinking that it might be a virus that's affecting other fb users as well but after reading this article it is possible there are issues with FB as well.

How long does 'site maintenace' last? I have been unable to log on for 12 hours because of this message. I’ve had periodic trouble with Facebook ever since I signed on in September. First, it kept asking me to log in every time I wanted to access my page, even though I routinely checked the box that says “stay logged in.” Magically, everything resolved itself. Then I couldn’t access my friend’s pages–kept telling me to download a flash, which I’ve already done. Then that magically resolved itself. Last week, I started having problems with FB chat. I’d start posting, and my messages would say “sending” and then “can’t connect to chat at this time.” No explanation for that. Other times, I can’t even access the page. I click on the icon and nothing happens. Since yesterday morning, a new problem. While I can access my page, I can’t post anything on it. I click the “remove” button and it takes me to the home page, for some odd reason. I also can’t respond or post on anyone else’s page. No explanation whatsoever for these odd happenings!

I have the same problems as you people mentioned above. I could not log in for more than 24 hours. I don’t even think that facebook will have this kind of problem, the system is so unstable. Nobody knows if we have to lose our account,getting another sign up is not a solution at all. Do I need to start everything again???? I have sent e-mail to the facebook team, it seems they don’t know the time frame to fix this problem. They just told me to be patience.

I have read most of these comments that people are having, but seem to be of the same matter. However they are saying that they haven't been able to see their facebook/Farnville names appear when they post it. They have been complaining about this of 6-9 days. I on the other hand haven't been able to connect with Farmville on my homepage for over a year now. I have trouble logging into Face Book.In response I have created other email accounts. This only works temporarily. Yes ,I was able to access the site. But if I log off. Then I come back on ; I can not.I put in the correct password. To no avail. I even tried to get a new password and confirmation code. I want to know is why can my Face Book page be accessed on my phone or on another computer but not on my computer. I have checked for viruses and spyware . I do not have any. Does anyone know why i can not access my facebook account from any where else? I can only log in when i am at home on my computer. maybe it is because of the privacy setting i have on it. but i can't figure out which one it is. thanks

To fix this clear Cache and cookies in all browsers shut down restart and then log in….sounds simple but it worked for me…Give it a try, remember ALL BROWSERS even if you just use 1 the info is in all of them…….

Can someone please help!!!!!!!! Everytime I try to access facebook.com from my computer I am taken to the mail.yahoo.com page and being asked to enter my password for my yahoo account. When I enter my password, I am taken to the yahoo.com home page. I have 3 computers but it only happens on one. Can someone please tell me what I need to do to correct this? I have cleared my cookies and cache and restarted the computer but the proplem still persists.

My FB account when i tried to login says "Account Disabled

Your account has been disabled. If you have any questions or concerns, you can visit our FAQ page here." and that link doesnt help at all.. and i never did anything to have it be "disabled"… can anybody help me or tell me what's going on. email me keenanrivera235@gmail.com

I cant login to my account, I enter my password and nothing happens, it says "DONE" aas if it has loaded but keeps me on the login page, I have tried resetting my password many times but nothing changes. The funny thing is, my wife can access her account perfect and we use the same computer. Does anyone have an idea what I can do, I have sent many emails and problem enquiries to facebook via their help desk but I have recieved no reply. Its been 3 days so far and nothing .

when I try to log on it want let me. I change pass-words and still want let me.. I go to another computer and I can log on from there. I Opened a new account and It works fine. But once I get into my origonial account again it blocks me out again.. Anyone having this same problem?

NO! Now seriuosly, i am gettin absolutely pissed of. I try to login on facebook on my phone, and it tells me 'your facebook account has been temporraly unavaiable, you must login on facebook on a computer to go through the instructions' i went on the computer and it says i have been hacked from the united states then it happeneds again i go on the computer it says i have been hacked from spain then it happeneds again then it said i have been hacked from ecuador, then now it says my facebook account is temporarly unavialble (AGAIN) if i go on the computer and go through the instctions again and i find out i have been hacked again i will deavtivate MY ACCOUNT AND MAKE SURE ALL MY FRIENDS DO ASWELL THIS HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES AND I AM NOT HAPPY. More and likely most of these can be solve by running a good anti malware program. I was have same kind of problems, could log on to fb anywhere but home. have norton (that never reported anything but tracking cookies), but when i down loaded a new malware & adware program, found several trojans and 1 worm. having no problems with facebook now.

I've nevver been able to post a comment on any organization's facebook page. There is no area in which to type AND there is no "post" button. I know I'm ignorant when it comes to technology, but please explain to me the specific steps to successfully post a comment towards a specific story(or just in general). I've inquired with these companies, but I've received no responses. Something tells me they are having a good laugh at my expense. HELP!!!

I have been unable to access facebook for months on my personal laptop. I can access it on any other computer in the world (my son's, public pc, library, etc.). I am helping coordinate our class reunion and being unable to connect to FB which is where I've contacted so many of them is hindering the process. I have been unable to use my facebook for several days and it is getting frustrating. I keep in touch with my grandchildren via facebook and miss being able to contact them. I haven't been able to get my Profile page or my home page but I do get the entire menu of apps listed , usually on the left side of the page but some times on the right. My page went down sometime between 11 PM last night and 11 AM this morning. I'm so mad all i want to do is status update about how lameo facebook is for creating mass dependence on their site and then screwing me so I can't get my fix. the same thing just happened to me. when i got home from school it said check back in a few hours, its 8 now and it changed to try again in a few minutes, does that mean anything?

I too have a problem trying to access my Fb account as they keep rejecting my password at the same time with my security it always comes up as being correct. I tried many many times to access my account and resetting my password to no avail, this is very annoying, just dont know what to do anymore.

i keep getting this message when i try to open facebook.

Ive tried three browsers: Mozilla, google chrome and safari. (Mac osx)
its not my internet connection coz i tried using my brothers laptop and its functioning normally.

It's weird I can access my boyfriend's account alright but not mine! Stupid login attempt message keeps appearing with site unavailable due to inconvenience. This so pisses me off especially when I try to relax with friends online after a hard day's work! Facebook sucks a lot lately. I'm afraid of it being hacked or something though.

How does one contact Facebook? If the problem you're having doesn't fit into one of their stupid categories, you can't even report the problem.
Honey I Shrunk the Facebook! My interface has shrunk. Facebook now fills only about 25% of the screen, a short skinny strip down the middle. Yes, I have exited and reentered. No, I'm not having this problem with any other website. Yes, it looks perfectly normal on my mobile apps. Anybody have a clue?

cannot access the facebook site whenever i connect my internet connection at my router tp-link, but when i directly connected it at my 4g broadband, i could connect, what would be the problem? i tried different solution like config my dns, reset the router, use open dns, etc, but still i cannot connect facebook through tp-link router T_T

I can get onto fb but have white screens for all my emails~ can not see pokes as well… My best friend and I are admin of a group with over 1 million people the new upgrades are not giving us a button to upgrade the group so we will loose all our work as well as all our people for our group~ it was semi "locked down" last week same time I lost access to my emails and abilities to poke friends on my own wall? Tried to upgrade firefox changed pw's ~ all to no avail. Wondering when this will be fixed ?

i just wanted to say this to someone anyone!!! I've been trying to access my account for the past few days!!! It's so weird because everything else i ttry to log onto is fine,it's just Facebook giving the problem, saying that IE can't display this webpage. I know that the address is right since I used to use it all the time and I am connected to the internet!! No amount of refreshing even seems to help.
I just want to get back on and stay connected to my friends. Especially the one I have in Mexico. This sucks.

This sucks!!! I am very recently new to Facebook and all I wanted was to feel like I was being included since all my friends had Facebook. Now I just discovered that IE can't display Facebook's webpage!! It's been happening for the last couple of days now and it's so frustrating!! I know that I'm connected to the internet,no connectivity problems are found when i test them and I also know that the address is correct since I used to use it all the time.
I think my friends can still see my account and post tnihgs on my wall becaause I keep getting emails from the Facebook Team telling me that they made comments and even tagged me in one of their albums.
I don't get what's happening and I just wish it would stop because I feel even more disconnected than when I didn't even have Facebook. I just want to be able to talk to my friends again. Especially the new ones I made and the one I have in Mexico.
Please let me get back onto Facebook! Please!!!!!

What is going on? Everytime I try to access the Facebook website, my computer says

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage
Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.

Initially, I was blaming my daughter for setting up a Skype account and connecting it to her Facebook, then I saw postings that others are having the same problem. Just doesn't make sense, I was at a friend's house last night and was able to access Facebook from his computer, but haven't been able to access from my computer for a couple days.

It works alll you have to do is preess acccount logout and then it will put you on the usual facebook login =)
DO NOT DELETE YOUR PAGE WITH IT ON

mine says "this connection is untrusted" whenever i tried to open my account. .as i have observed, my time and date has changed and i can no longer reset it on the control panel, the time resets it self from September 8,2011 to July 21, 2009. i think there's a co relation between these two happenings …if there's someone who has the same problem and found out the solution can please share it! i have a paper due on monday and so much i have to do and i don't have my debate partner's phone number or email so the best way of communication is facebook and right now it isn't working. this is so annoying. it would be better if they could warn us before they do maintenance on out fb. i really need my debate partners info that she got on our resolved. this stinks. they need to do something about it. if there is a petition out there or something like that then i am willing to sign it. yes fb is free but lots of people rely on it.

Well that's the key of what's happened isn't it? There is no way to contact them or to hear anything from them. They have no address, no email, no online service, no phone number…. cute trick mr. transparency zuckerberg. I've been unable to get any information why my page is blank (no error message Nothing) for 4 days. And I can't deactivate because i can't get on the page with my id. When I sign in, it just goes pure white. And I've done this from 3 different computers. To me, I don't think they owe me anything — I know the service is free, but I am very concerned about if someone is hacking into their company and is able to take my emails and my friends' data.

I can log into facebook but that's as far as I can get. It is just a blank white screen other than in the top left corner where it tells me I have messages and notifications waiting. I can't click into anything. It's been a week now! My daughter is having the same problem. We are in a support group on facebook for military family because my son and and the other family's soldier's are a long way from home right now.This is rediculous.

Sometimes it could be the browser problem, I experienced where google chrome can access while IE can't access, I'm not sure is it because of the security settings? If you guys can share on this and help to seek solution…
