Warning: Fake Zynga Toolbars Will Steal Your Facebook Password

There are two “free toolbars” circulating around the web that pretend to enable users to cheat at Zynga games on Facebook, but actually attempt to steal Facebook login credentials. The false toolbars were spotted by Sunbelt researchers and should be avoided at all cost. See below for more details.

The images below were provided courtesy of Help Net Security and detail the method of operation of the deceitful toolbars.

At first glance, the toolbars look legitimate and appear at the top of your browser, along with a legitimate Facebook logo. The buttons have features that allow for cheating on “Zynga Games” along with other links as well.

The problem is, when users click on the “Facebook” logo in the top left corner of the bar (they layout sometimes changes), they are taken to a false Facebook page that asks you to login but actually steals your credentials instead!

The domain on which the phishing page is hosted is constantly changing because in time every domai gets reported, detected and blocked by the browsers. The different domains used had names like apps-facebook-inthemafia(dot)tk,mafiamafiamafiamafia(dot)t35(dot)com, apps-inthemafias-facebook(dot)tk, etc.

The problem is that the toolbars – when they are not pointing towards the phishing page – point to the real Facebook URL, and the switch can happen anytime. It is best to distrust “cheating” toolbars altogether, and access Facebook and other networks and services by typing in the URL yourself or following your own bookmark.

The point is clear: do not download any fake toolbars claiming to help you cheat at games. The only thing they’ll accomplish is having your password stolen.

I had downloaded a Zynga toolbar which helped with MW and FV,worked fine. It dissappeared about 2-3 weeks ago,no idea why. Haven't had any problems with facebook login or any other of the sites i use.

I added it but it didn't do much so deleted it. How do you know if it is a legitimate one or not? When i deleted it they said "sorry you are deleting our toolbar."

Zynga does have a legitimate toolbar that you can download directly from Farmville or Mafia Wars but I wouldn't download one from anywhere else.

is simple to know whetehr it is legitimate or not. look at the address bar. make sure everything end with FACEBOOK.com if it is facebook.tk, or face-book.com or any other stupid link. that is fake! beware of phising! bewareeee. play nice, play safe, dont cheat

Cynthia, you may have downloaded the actual Zynga game toolbar. Zynga does have one they developed themselves, and it's meant to make it easier to find your Zynga game bonuses, like when one of your FB friends posts some found fuel in FarmVille. Basically, it saves you a trip to your home page to scrounge for bonuses. I also found it to be not so useful, so I rarely bother with it.

You can tell the difference between theirs and the fake ones because (1) Zynga's has their own graphics AND you can only download it directly FROM Zynga (or from Zynga via Facebook), so it has the name Zynga in the URL. (2) The fake ones are downloaded offsite and have URLs similar to the ones described in the warning above. (3) The fake ones specifically advertise that it's for cheating. Zynga would not be putting out something to help you cheat, so you know it wouldn't be from them!

My rule is that I don't download ANYTHING for Facebook use that isn't created by Zynga or by Facebook itself. (That means I don't cheat.)

So you just have to remember where you downloaded it from… was it via Facebook at Zynga, or some other website.

I just received a notice that the "Send the 3 Spring Eggs at a time" website posted by Rawand Bradosty is actually a hacker from Pakistan trying to get into people's accounts. I have used this application. What can I do to protect my account? Thanks!

P.S. We have Norton Antivirus,a firewall and another antiviral software. Will this protect me?

When you do delete this toolbar, make sure to run a good malware program on your computer to help remove all traces. Try downloading Microsoft Security Essentials. It's Free

When I joined a Facebook, someone changed my home for roadrunner into msn so i removed and got home back to rr.com then someone set web search into home again. I suspected it is a hacker cuz it prevent me to play my fav games. I am getting tired about my farm or others like cafe. They were trying to get my credit to buy for more things. When it tried to ask me. i offed real fast.. As far as I know we never fill our credit accounts on any programs.

Both my husband and I had our Farmvilles taken away.We don't know why or how.My husband said he was collecting fv gifts when it just disappeared .Mine was fine I hadn't collected any gifts yet and when I went to do it my FV was gone all that work down the drain thank god it's only a game.But where did it go and is my toolbar a bad one? mine worked fine my husbands never worked to collect stuff.WONDERING SO CONFUSED.:(

I think I downloaded it last Friday…was having a lot of trouble with it and firefox…so it said supported IE 7, so I downgraded to that, but went back to IE 8 and now I can't find it on IE anymore.

Today I had $150 taken out of my bank by paypal, who is investigating it.

I removed it from firefox addons but Farmville won't hardly load…when they do load I get a red banner across screen that says…………"Oops! We were unable to send emails to you at the address you provided. Please go to http://accounts.zynga.com to verify your settings." I never allowed them my email address, nor did I create an account with them. (the real url when pasted in Word comes up).. .http://accounts.zynga.com /?game=master&clear

Is that even a valid url for Zynga?

How do I remove this…nothing comes up with any scans. But I think something is still on there with the way Farmville loads and now wanting me to log into an account I never created.

(a)this warning is referring to "fake" Zynga toolbars that you get from places other than Zynga the Real one can be acquired at http://toolbar.zynga.com/install/farmville/ . If you have one you you downloaded from anyplace else other than mafia wars you can (b) remove by going to Add/Remove Programs in "control panel". (c) BE VERY CAREFUL you know exactly what you are deleting! or you may remove a very necessary file your system needs to run. My recommendations are mozilla firefox with WOT add-ons and AVG Anti Virus http://download.cnet.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edit...

@wissam abbas would help to know what OS (operating system) etc you are using. windows XP, Vista etc. but if you click on "start" and have a bar come up you can type in try typing in "farmville" "zynga" & "toolbar" to see what comes up. DONT OPEN but this may help give you an idea where the mystery program file is lurking – also try going to program files and looking through the names of what's there. AGAIN BEING VERY CAREFUL NOT TO JUST DELETE ANYTHING BECAUSE SOME FILES ARE IMPORTANT. One helpful program software informer keeps things organized and helps you find them (and updated)

slightyly off topic but important ,Beware any supposed emails or messages from Zynga making false accusations as to your conduct in regards Zynga poker and directing you to login page,under Zynga security policy they will never ask you for your password and if you login to bogus site your system is at risk.

I had one and notified zynga and contacted the sender to give them fair warning that any exploits perpetrated against my systems would be met with repraisals from myself if not Zynga.

Subseqeuntly changed my password and blocked the senders I.P in my firewall.

If they or anyone attempts to mess with my systems they will find themselves slapped about the internet before they are sent the biggest of K^ switches and need to buy themselves a new hard drive.

Even if the URL they direct you to looks genuine refer to Zyngas own security policy and click on nothing as it is a phishing exploit. (:^D)jd6667

Other exploits will say unlimited poker chips and such or make threats of closing your account if you do not contact them at a specific URL within 24hrs,basically anything to get you to click on an URL and login with your password so beware.

I don`t know how to regain my previous password which is allegedly bolcked by someone. It is a technical error from my side and i can confirm that i am a victim of hackers, some sort of phising or misuse with in the Zynga people themselves. They h`ve stolen about 3.4 million chips from me and i claim my chips back to my account.

I'm curious to know if Administrators are watching this facebook site, because its not just by clicking on the false website for tool bars that has a problem but also that people can get into such situations aswell by clients or players who may falsely claims things that are too good to be true and add links in the process for other players to fall into.

Un-check the toolbar in the View Menu of your browser, to not see it. Or you can go to your browser add-ons and uninstall it there. stolen from Asker! works great!

My original (which I have NEVER played a game on) began constantly giving me frustration due to "email address & password errors." Any attempt to RESET resulted in BOGUS(now I know) messages containing useless confirmation codes that never worked.

I said "whatever!" I wanted to revamp the purpose of my page anyhow, so I set up a new facebook account about a month or so ago. I also set up a new g-mail email acct specifically for it.

Days after initial setup I could not access the new account either. Same scenario. Mind you there were no friends, no media, no games, posts or whatever on the new page, so I am unsure about how the "toolbar" did all this since I had never played a game or posted anything to this account (oncce again, to the best of my knowledge.)

As a result of all the NEW facebook account trouble, I could no longer access the gmail account nor could I ever log-in to that facebook page. I had also opened both a twitter and youtube account with the same g-mail & access as the new facebook page and now these accts are ALL inoperable also.

SO…once again, I currently have two facebook accounts.

Something rather similiar also happened with my amazon.com account at Christmas time, just DAYS after making my major xmas purchases. I went to check on the status and delivery, BUT when I attempted log-in with my email address I was informed my password was incorrect.

After 8 years? WHAT?

So I did the standard reset to my email and was finally able to access my account. BUT…

there were no recent or past orders, shopping cart gone, preferences, etc. EVERYTHING was "swiped clean" OR so it seemed…

Thank the stars I came back to check on my order right away, discovered the mysterious happenings and was able to DELETE my credit information so quickly. Who knows what may have happened if I wasn't so darned impatient!

So,once again, registered for new account with new email, password, etc…

I know Amazon has NOTHING to do w/ Facebook's "Game Toolbar" but seems to be a lot of funky junkie action going on and it appears to be damaging to even more than just your facebook account. In my situation anyhow.

-1st timer hackee, what a pain, SO many unneccesary nights at the computer trying to figure it all out. UGH!

This morning I logged onto FB and went to Mafia Wars home page. On the top of the page appeared a message from "Zynga" that said "Add the Mafia Wars Tool Bar and receive energy or stamina refills every 8 hours". I started too but #1 I have Windows Vista and the internet browser with it is not compatible with FB so I use Google Chrome and did not want to mess up connecting with FB. #2 It sounded too good to be true. I got an Email from Bonus Lottery chipspoker Facebook saying i was a winner and said within 12hrs i would claim 50 gold coins and up to 150 million in chips,they wanted my password and email confirmation which strangly i had to put in twice because they didnt except it because it was wrong but i typed in the excact same details,then when they did accept it they noted within saying in 12hrs(Approx) you would recieve your prize..Now when i went into my normal Zynga poker account i had about 10million in chips and all of a sudden my amount started going crazy,the amount kept on going up and down EVERYTIME I WENT IN AND OUT OF A POKER ROOM it told me i had to keep on re logging on and things sayinG all of a sudden i had another account??,then without warning when i logged on to my Zynga account finally after 3 or 4 attempts,my account was zero..those hackers or who ever stole them..I want my Money Back NOW!…ASSOLES..

well i signed into mafia wars and once in the application it was on there main page to download that toolbar said it was a reward.. so mafia wars itself was issuing it.. now what is what i wanna know there is no way to take it off how do i know its gone…

If you downloaded the Zynga Toolbar from Zynga it is legit. If you want to remove it from FireFox, go to tool, add ons and it should be there. Just click uninstall.

No matter how much I tell people and how many times I repeat it – some of them are so thick in the head they keep on clicking on cheat links which are visibly too good to be true – I give up – but I am concerned whether they are inadvertently passing on my details to these cheat group sites when they join those groups.

I recieve dog food for my dog by my framville friends, I can't recieve any of my gifts out of the girft box. I don't want my dog moonlite to run away. I could not feed him in three days. I've paid for food and some times I get it, and other time I don't. When I tried to buy more food it say that I can't. Please tell me how can I recieve my gifts so I can feed my dog, and add them on my farm., In the box, it states that I have 75 gifts, when I try to use them, it tells me that I haven't brought a building the needs to be build, or I must ask friend for dog food because I'm out. My original (which I have NEVER played a game on) began constantly giving me frustration due to “email address & password errors.” Any attempt to RESET resulted in BOGUS(now I know) messages containing useless confirmation codes that never worked.

I said “whatever!” I wanted to revamp the purpose of my page anyhow, so I set up a new facebook account about a month or so ago. I also set up a new g-mail email acct specifically for it.

Days after initial setup I could not access the new account either. Same scenario. Mind you there were no friends, no media, no games, posts or whatever on the new page, so I am unsure about how the “toolbar” did all this since I had never played a game or posted anything to this account (oncce again, to the best of my knowledge.)

Something rather similiar also happened with my amazon.com account at Christmas time, just DAYS after making my major xmas purchases. I went to check on the status and delivery, BUT when I attempted log-in with my email address I was informed my password was incorrect.

After 8 years? WHAT?

So I did the standard reset to my email and was finally able to access my account. BUT…

At the top of the page something caught my eye!

there were no recent or past orders, shopping cart gone, preferences, etc. EVERYTHING was “swiped clean” OR so it seemed…

Thank the stars I came back to check on my order right away, discovered the mysterious happenings and was able to DELETE my credit information so quickly. Who knows what may have happened if I wasn’t so darned impatient!

So,once again, registered for new account with new email, password, etc…

I know Amazon has NOTHING to do w/ Facebook’s “Game Toolbar” but seems to be a lot of funky junkie action going on and it appears to be damaging to even more than just your facebook account. In my situation anyhow.

-1st timer hackee, what a pain, SO many unneccesary nights at the computer trying to figure it all out. UGH!

My sister and I share the same computer. I can't log out of the zynga toolbar so that she can log in and see her information. My info keeps coming up. Is there a way to log out of the toolbar?? It used to reset when I closed Firefox, now it doesn't. I looked in the Zynga communities and followed the instructions to remove cookies, but it is different on my Firefox toolbar than the instructions. I deleted cookies on Zynga, closed Firefox and reopened; and there was my info on the toolbar.

i have learned not to click or download anything with the name 'zynga' on it ever again. lost my 9mil of hard earned chips just because i clicked on a notification said to be from 'zynga' team. i did not go for the cheat codes nor the toolbar, mind you. the notification seemed real enough. behaved just like the original..

wonder if i can get my 9 mil back..fat chance, huh?

Not that it should even need to be said, since I hope people are smarter than that, or smarter than to just blindly type their credentials into a fake site.

First off: farmville. Jesus Christ, FARMVILLE. You all tried to download a toolbar that 'cheated' on FARMVILLE?!

Or poker games or Mafia Wars. What a fucking waste of time/space.

Second: people who type their credit card details or Paypal passwords (or even just their facebook or email password) into forms or sites without checking their authenticity HAD IT COMING. It wasn't going to be too long before they had some 'surprising correspondence' from the deposed president of Nigeria.

Third: people who type all caps, no understanding of apostrophes or basic grammar or spelling or DAMN SENTENCE STRUCTURE, are plainly stupid and I have no sympathy for you or your non-existent poker chips or farms or crops or dogs or mafia hitmen.

I opened one of the fake face book notice being someone who doesn't knew much about the internet my son told me that i should not have done it twice i've had all of my poker chip's taking first a little over 12 million, so i purchased more and last night 6/9/10 logged out with a little over 5 million and went on this morning 6/10/10 and all my chip's where gone again how do i fix this problem, i would greatly appericate some input into this situation. I think I downloaded the wrong one, because now I can't even get on facebook, can't play any of my games or anything, it is like signed up. I have played mafia wars and other games for about 2 years and, I was at a lvl 550 in MW now I can't even play it. Farmville I had 3 million and the biggest farm there was, all is gone. I try to login into facebook and they give you a stupid security check, I had over 2500 people that I had as friends in the games that I played, and the security questions were pictures of some of the 2500 people. Most people I could figure out who they are but you have to get all 7 pictures correct, which is hard to do when you have that many people on your friends list. You would figure they would ask you questions that are in your profile, personal question of yourself. Your secret questions not BS they just come up with, like the pictures. Facebook I have washed my hand with it.

I saw this when I was loading Petville and was suspicious about it, so I didn't download it. It seemed like it was real enough, but I was still suspicious. I don't get anything like this anymore after I got one of those fake dislike buttons, but I got out of that one fast enough for nothing to happen to me. Pretty much if you ever see anything like this then just don't download it, simple enough.

with firefox.., click tools (at top of page), ….click clear recent history (then tick all boxes that show), and click clear now… this resets your zinga toolbar so when u login to a new account the toolber is reset for a new user to login to it..

As a matter of fact Zynga has many spyware once in your PC it's hard to get out. I deleted my Zynga toolbar but when I open my manage add ons on my Internet Options I see it so I desable it and when I log off and start my PC again it's back on enable. Went to all my stuff and deleted it but it comes back.

Be aware there are a few fake zynga offers out there look out for any that quote more than http://www.facebook.com any additions such as / or // or anything else treat as fake
Zynga lottery does not seem to work at the moment but sites directing you elsewhere will steal your chips.
I reccomend changing your password every so often and make it a complicated one

when you log onto facebook, simply look to the top right of your screen, press account and then go down to help center. you will be able to search for that type of situation.

Zynga has a real problem, but it is also Facebook's problem.
Despite following Zynga's instructions to the letter, I have been hacked 3 times in last 2 weeks. Each time i lost more than 100 million poker chips, but that's not my biggest concern. If hackers can get into Zynga and Facebook accounts on your computer this easily, what else can they access on your PC? I have removed Zynga completely from my PC and advise others to do the same. I am planning on doing the same with Facebook as i'm no longer prepared to take the risk that someone can access important private banking and investment info.

i tried to uninstall it but its not in my control pannel is there an other was to get rid its sending my friends details to other people i want it off

I added it but it didn't do much so deleted it.
