The Insider, a site for celebrity gossip and other entertainment news has launched a service that takes advantage of Facebook Connect. I had a chance to check out the integration and it’s pretty interesting. Unfortunately many of the features weren’t loading correctly but a few of them were. One of the key benefits of the Facebook Connect integration is the ability to comment on stories using an automatically generated profile.
The service also immediately tells you which of your friends are on the site. Not surprisingly, none of my friends were already using the site. This is one of many applications to roll out features using the Facebook Connect service. For now the integration is extremely basic with the ability to invite friends to join you at the site and comment on other user profiles.
Over the coming weeks we will see many more sites launch with Facebook Connect. This is only one of the few early ones to take advantage of the integration. There are definitely some great promotional benefits although this implementation of Facebook Connect doesn’t appear to take advantage of all those. For example when I registered for the Insider there was no notification that posted to my newsfeed.
This is still extremely early though and I’m guessing we will see many of these features change as time progresses. If you are into gossip news then go check out the Insider and connect their community with your Facebook profile.

waiting for a nice tutorial to teach me exactly how to allow users to invite friends from facebook onto my site

Also, my.barackobama.com has just launched a (fairly poor) integration of fbConnect that allows you to find friends that are on both networks.Looking forward to seeing some more integrated examples of this appearing soon.

There is noting "Open" about "Open" Social. It can only been seen for what it is; a plan by Facebook to continue to raise their revenue and values on backs of other sites content and members.
Developers and content creators of the world, it is time to free yourselves from the share cropping model that is web 2.0.
What will facebook give back to the developer community for their efforts ?
Will face book share a percentage of the value that is created in their company with the developers and content creators that have added the most value.
The value of that content creators and the developers add is something that is measurable. I doubt Microsoft invested close to a billion dollars in face book for their technology.
How does developing for face book or integrating "Open" Social help anyone but facebook ?
Why does developing for face book involve using non standard development methods when there are well known open source standards that could be used ? Because facebook like Microsoft and Google wants to be the standard and they want you to develop for their platform so that you can help them become the standard. I think we have seen this before; and we are still living with the repercussions.
