Over the weekend I was helping a friend with their Facebook Page and noticed that it isn’t very obvious how Facebook Page owners, or even users in general, can create a username on Facebook. As such, I’ve decided to write this brief tutorial on how to create a Facebook username for your Facebook Page or profile. Once you’ve read through this you should be able to easily set one up.

Facebook Lets Users Change Their Username

When Facebook first released the username tool a few weeks ago, they said that you better like the username that you select because you’ll never be able to change it. Now Facebook is modifying that policy to allow users to “change their username once”. It’s pretty easy to switch your username. All you need to do is visit your account settings page and click on “Change” next to the “Username” setting. Facebook will then let you know if the new username you’d like is available.

The Countdown To The Facebook Username Land Rush Begins

It appears that today is the day of reckoning for Twitter and Facebook users. While Twitter is busy handling signed integer issues with their tweets, Facebook users are on standby while they wait to get their Facebook username. The form for selecting your Facebook username will open up at 12:01 AM EDT. You can view what time the form will open for your time zone by visiting the form. If you are on the east coast then don’t plan on staying out late tonight because you have to get your Facebook username, right?

Is Facebook Blocking Native American Names?

What’s in a name? A whole lot. And when your surname is Kills The Enemy, you’re swiftly reminded of that when Facebook swiftly deactivates your account. 28-year-old Parmelee Kills The Enemy had to send Facebook scanned copies of a government identification document to prove her real last name after the social networking site deactivated her profile, according to KX Net.

A Native American, Parmelee’s name is a hot topic for Facebook, social networking users and advocates. Nebraska journalism student Nancy Kelsey wrote a news story about Parmelee’s issue with Facebook, even going so far as to create a Facebook group called “Facebook: don’t discriminate against Native surnames!!” The group already has 1,000 users, and highlights ongoing issues automated systems have for individual scenarios.
