Want to have a name that includes hearts, stars, or other symbols? As of last week Facebook is starting to push people away from such names, posting an alert on their homepage which asked them to post their authentic names instead.

A recent CNN article pointed out that a number of students have been changing their Facebook names in order to hide their profile from college recruiters and potential employers. This comes after a recent survey commissioned by Microsoft revealed that 79% of recruiters look up their candidates’ information online: that means they will Google your name, check your LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook and more. In today’s environment, is it realistic to try to hide your information from prospective employers, or should we all accept that we have to let it all hang out?

If you were curious about the most popular names on Facebook, we’ve got a special treat for you! Today Rapleaf, a social media research company, has produced a report with some of the most popular names on Facebook. Bringing in the title was John Smith, with 75,980 users named John Smith. Coming a distant second was Joe Smith, with 14,648 names. The number of users with the last name Smith was pretty impressive: 1,049,158.
