Facebook has just updated their statistics page which now reports they have 175 million users. This means Facebook has increased its new user acquisition rate from 450,000 users a day to over 480,000 users a day. As Facebook expands, it continues to increase its growth rate suggesting that the company will easily surpass 300 million by the end of the year if everything goes well.

Facebook Should Surpass 160 Million Users Today

Earlier this month we wrote about Facebook surpassing 150 million users. If the growth has in fact continued at the same pace, if not a greater pace, the company should register their 160 millionth user today. Alexa suggests that the company’s growth rate has in fact been increasing which means the company could have surpassed 160 million users prior to today.

Facebook: Double the Pleasure, Double the Fun of MySpace

We already knew that Facebook was larger than MySpace globally, but according to new comScore numbers published by Techcrunch, Facebook is now double the size of MySpace. MySpace doesn’t seem to mind though. Quotes provided to both Techcrunch and CNet emphasize the company’s focus on monetization over growth. Facebook in contrast is infamous for their continued focus on growth despite a breakthrough revenue model.

Facebook’s Local Battle Abroad

Despite Facebook’s continued growth abroad, attracting over 450,000 new users a day, the site is facing some challenges in expanding in certain markets. Looking at our Facebook demographics tool, we’ve found a number of countries with decreasing activity on Facebook: Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Egypt, Ireland, Kenya, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and a few others.

Facebook Hits 150 Million Users, Adding 450,000 Users Per Day

This morning Mark Zuckerberg posted on the Facebook blog that the company has officially hit 150 million. That’s approximately 3 weeks after the company announced that it hit the 140 million mark suggesting that the company is now growing at approximately 450,000 users per day. This is a significant pace and if the company keeps up this pace for the first half of 200, the company will easily hit 230 million users. If the pace continues the whole year, the company will surpass 300 million users.
