Earlier yesterday while stumbling across an article on the CNN Money site, I noticed that the comments were now exclusively powered through Facebook Connect. While there are no signs that this will become a broader trend for all of CNN, this is definitely a major move for one of the worlds largest global news organizations. One interesting thing to note is that this is for articles that previously didn’t have an embedded commenting feature.

CNN’s partnership with Facebook worked really well for President Obama’s inauguration, so the two are back at it for the coverage of President Obama’s State of the Union coverage and President Obama’s Address to Congress. In the same way live coverage was supplemented with Facebook users’ streaming status updates during the inauguration, so too will Facebook users have the combined and social experience for the State of the Union. There’s been a bunch of buzz about tonight’s NBA All-Star game which TNT was streaming live on their website. Facebook even sent out a message to all the media members tonight notifying them of the launch of their live streaming widget that is embedded next to the live video feed. Unfortunately TNT’s NBA site doesn’t appear to be working, but one thing that is working perfectly is the live feed widget that I wrote about back in January.
Initially I thought it was working because Facebook had “re-enabled” it for the All-Star game. David-Benjamin Brakha pointed out to me that the live feed widget that is currently accessible again is for the CNN application. Most likely, someone at Facebook accidentally enabled more then one live feed widget when the TNT stream when live. Whatever the reason for it returning, I would imagine that it will be disabled within hours.
