Facebook Users Appear To Be Over Swine Flu Hysteria

-Piglets Photo-Last week Facebook released swine flu maps which tracked the domestic swine flu hysteria. While the geographic maps provided little insight, Facebook lexicon has been tracking the volume of discussion and it appears that swine flu hysteria is beginning to die down. Not surprisingly, CNN.com has stopped posting about the “deadly swine flu” as it was clearly affecting the country’s ability to function properly.

Many journalists claim that the coverage was not excessive. As Reuters points out:

One of the messages that has come up repeatedly is that the 1918 pandemic, cited as the worst-case scenario because it killed upwards of 40 million people, started with a mild arrival of a new virus, now identified as H1N1, in the spring.

It disappeared over the summer, but roared back with a vengeance in August.

So despite Facebook users’ decision to move on with life, you should constantly be on guard in case another deadly epidemic takes place! The worst part for many individuals was that swine flu coincided perfectly with the peak of allergy season in some areas. I for one spent the last week coughing, sneezing, and worrying that the deadly swine flu had infected by body.

Personally, I’m over swine flu and given that my local news is now covering the not-yet-epidemic-level-virus, I think now would be a good time to focus on more interesting topics. Are you over the constant bombardment of swine flu coverage? Are you counting yourself a survivor of the 2009 swine flu epidemic?
