Sociable! Provides Instant Connect Integration for Your Blog

-Sociable Screenshot-So you’ve been hearing all the buzz about Facebook Connect but you can’t figure out how to get it integrated with your site. Thanks to Sociable! Now you can. Sociable! is a WordPress plugin which lets you integrate a Facebook Connect community, similar to the Google Friend Connect communities currently available for sites. I checked it out a couple months ago but decided not to use the service for a number of reasons.

First of all, when a new user is registered for your community, they are added as a full user to your WordPress database. Rather than using saving the user as a commenter, the service gives users access to your WordPress installation for modifying their profile, something I’m not really into. For those who aren’t as concerned about where their user database is held (most sites probably don’t care), it’s a great way to jump on the Facebook Connect bandwagon.

I was somewhat surprised when Facebook launched Connect without any services for users as Google’s competing Friend Connect service has now been installed on thousands of blogs with easy to install widgets. Granted, I’m sure services like Sociable! and new ones to roll out will make it easier for Facebook Connect integration to take place, and will result in a jump in site which support the service.

Make sure to let us know if you decide to install the service and get it installed and we’ll add you to the Facebook Connect directory that we launched this morning. For now Sociable! is a great option for those that are comfortable with working their way around WordPress. There still needs to be an easier solution but I’d imagine that we will see an easier implementation in the coming weeks.

What Facebook Connect services are you excited about? What types of services would you like for your blog or website? Oh one thing to remember, I believe the default language for Sociable! is Spanish so you may need to make a couple minor tweaks. Go download Sociable! and try it out now.

Update
One thing to keep in mind is the instant benefit of using this plugin. All comments on your blog will result in distribution through your users’ Facebook profiles.

  2. I installed this plugin, and though it's a bit messy (most notably, I had to change the code to put everything into the "content" container), it's precisely what I've been waiting for.

    It's in use here: http://www.lithchat.com
