One of my biggest Facebook pet peeves is when someone responds to a wall post on their own wall. If you do this, and I know a lot of people do, the person who posted on your wall won’t see your response.
I feel it is my duty to share with you the correct way to respond to a friendly wall post from a friend:
- Click “Wall-to-Wall” which is found underneith their message.
- Respond to the wall post and click “post”.
Then they’ll get a notice of your response and you can have a conversation. You can also easily keep track of the messages you have sent back and forth with that friend by clicking wall-to-wall.
So that’s what annoys this gossip blogger.
Oh and stop poking me. I don’t like it!

Not being allowed to post on my own wall!

I am so glad you posted this. People writing on their own walls annoys me. Mainly because no one did that when Facebook first came to my school (back when it was still only open to colleges) – we all knew the wall was for others to write on. For some reason, new Facebook users just don't get it.

I wish the default action would be Wall-to-Wall…alas…it's left up to the user to actually READ… and we all know how that's gonna end up.
One thing that bugs me multiple requests to Causes and Applications. Hello…If I turned you down on Vampire Bites once…it's gonna happen again…and again… give it up… and don't get pissy with me about it. It's not a reflection on you…I'm not into all the novelty apps on Facebook.
I'll take a SuperPoke anyday from you!

Hear, hear!! Well done on alerting the newbies about Wall-to-Wall – it's kind of a duh, but I suppose some folks don't quite understand it. And poking?! Euch! I have a zero-tolerance poking policy. LOLI'd say my own pet peeve is frivolous app invitations, especially from people I don't know personally. (Ok, it's my own damn fault for adding them as friends).

I'm getting pretty peevish about all these spammy messages that keep getting put on my Funwall. You know the kind, just like the emails that say "forward this to everyone you know!" I can't figure out how to tell people not to do that without offending them, so I just remove the offending posts right away.
Comment by Patti — December 20, 2007 @ 2:43 pm
If they're really your friend, they'll check your profile daily for updates. JK.Sometimes I write responses on my own wall if I think the general public would be interested in the answer (how presumptuous is that?) You can copy and paste onto your friend's wall AND your wall, yeah?

Setting that kind of policy sounds like social formating.Let just people do the way they want with their wall. And use Greasemonkey to block whatever you dislike.

I'm a student in Canada, been on FB since 05. My pet peeves are: 1. people that send you friend requests which require you to search their name in your gmail to see how you are connected, as you have no idea who they are or how they got your name.2. People that share too much personal information on your wall. "Hey Phillip, heard you went on date last night, hope it went well" is ok "Hey Phillip, did you date really say that you are boring and dance like a chimp?" is not ok. FB rocks although I do miss the 2005/2006 days when it was student-only.

I can't write on my OWN wall
I only get the wall to wall option. Also I only get wall posts in news and mini feeds. I don't actually have a Wall on my profile. I have did all the security settings things, but still makes no difference. I remember I removed it at one time, now it's lost forever. Please help me get my wall back on my profile, so I can write on my OWN wall. ThanksMeg, Scotland, UK

I can appreciate everyone's opinions and pet peeves here but it seems kinda short sighted for people to say they liked FB as a college only site better. Sooooo, when they graduate, they'll stop using it???
Comment by Stan — November 20, 2008 @ 10:10 am
Well, as a facebook rookie, I couldn’t figure out the right way to reply, and I’m guilty of this, but only about 2 times before I went out and googled “wall to wall.”
My pet peeve? Why doesn’t facebook have a “help” option to explain this to us nubies.
Comment by Dave — December 19, 2008 @ 2:18 pm
Hi. How come I don't see any "wall-to-wall" link under the message? Do the features vary per country?

Thanks for this. The whole "wall-to-wall" vs. "write on X's wall" thing is just one of many confusing things about Facebook, especially for newcomers. This post helped.

Comment by georgina townson — January 31, 2009 @ 9:29 pm
Well, since it’s impossible to find any info on the wall-to-wall thing on Facebook it doesn’t surprise me that people don’t know the difference. No need to be snooty about it.
Comment by Zrbo — March 3, 2009 @ 6:50 pm
I've been searching on "wall-to-wall"… and can't find anything. A tutorial would be helpful for the out-of-college crowd.
Comment by mapchica — March 15, 2009 @ 8:52 am
Thanks for this post. I've avoided Facebook up till now & have just joined. There is so little information around as to how to actually communicate on Facebook.
Plenty on how to join, add friends & how to post photos or other stuff – but f-all on how to actually talk to other people or start talking to other people.
What's the story with that? It's pretty much the same on all the "information/help" websites. Are you just supposed to join & magic happens??

Let me ask a question using an example.
BEVERLY and JOHN are Facebook friends with each other. Is there a way for Beverly to be able to see EVERY writing that John has EVER written on walls?
Comment by Beverly Johnson — August 24, 2009 @ 2:57 am
you tools. there's no standard, there's no manual, you're using a service that makes millions off your info , it's all bullshit. the rules are in flux. there exists no definition of anything about how facebook works. the owners couldn't care any less about useability. fools…

Have to admit, I wasn't sure of the correct way to reply(only just joined facebook). Thought I was meant to use wall to wall but wasn't sure, thanks for clearing that up! Feel a tad stoopid for posting on my own wall now!

I appreciate the effort you have made to clarify the stupidest website in existence, however, it still does not make sense. When I click wall-to-wall, there is NOT the option to Respond, Reply, etc., although there is a "Comment" option – is that what is used to reply? Ugh, what a world where such a moronic website is so popular.

My biggest annoyance on FB is when people put stupid open-ended status comments on their wall like "John Doe is confused" without anymore explaination!!! It's like they crave attention and want people to ask them what they're confused about!! UGH!! So annoying!

Isn't there a booklet-like something that tells one how to use Facebook? I haven't read anything about rules, etc.
that has instructions on what it's all about. I'm just now trying to learn after months and months of refusing to attempt. Is there a book on the market or in the library
to tell me how to set up and what to click where and when.
I know there has to be SOMETHING, or there wouldn't be so many people using it. Thank you
