New Facebook Game Lets You Take On Al-Qaeda Terrorists

-Al Qaeda Wars Icon-An interesting take on the Mob Wars genre is a new game which lets you battle Al-Qaeda terrorists. The game, called “Al-Qaeda Wars“, was developed by Rage on Gaming, a company dedicated to making what appears to be relatively violent games. The company’s website includes a number of demo clips. One is of a terrorist blowing up the Eiffel Tower in Paris and the other is simply a man opening a package and getting shot in the head.

Despite the company’s focus on violence, the quality of their applications are actually extremely high. The latest game lets you play as a counter terrorist or a terrorist. Ultimately the game is most likely offensive to many which I’m sure is part of its appeal. Wolfenstein 3D for example, became popularized not only because it was ahead of its time but also because it was extremely controversial.

The game was essentially about a Jewish person escaping from a Nazi stronghold. The game was eventually modified to remove all swastikas or Nazi references in the Super NES version. “Al-Qaeda Wars” will most likely be controversial as well although in this case it’s not clear who should be most offended by the game. The game includes Google map overlays which lets game players go after targets around the world.

According to the company, “Players can complete missions, build a global network and participate in special Jihads that depict the total destruction, or prevent the destruction of, famous landmarks utilizing realistic flash effects. Among these landmarks are the Statue of Liberty, Eiffel Tower, Big Ben, Taj Mahal, and the Sphinx.” I’m not quite sure if this is really a good idea or not but I’m sure it will generate plenty of attention and a variety of users will be drawn to it.

Do you think users will find this game to be offensive? Will you be taking on the terrorists?
