NBC Universal Launches Facebook Connect Across Multiple Properties

Today NBC Universal announced the implementation of Facebook Connect across multiple sites including USANetwork.com, AccessHollywood.com, iVillage.com, Syfy.com, Oxygen.com, and NBCSports.com. So what’s the bigger picture here? Well Facebook just won another large media partner to help them become the center of our digital identities. Whether you are reading content about celebrities, or sharing information about women’s issues on iVillage.com, you’ll be able to share content and sync up your accounts.

Let’s Get Together And Share!

Sharing is caring and that’s why you can now share content directly from NBC’s various web properties. I’m still trying to figure out how these sites have implemented Facebook Connect but that’s neither here nor there, right? Facebook keeps racking up the sites that are implementing Facebook Connect which may have something to do with the site’s continued growth.

Just last month Facebook attracted 87.7 million users in the United States according to comScore. Facebook’s ad platform reports that 71.86 million of those users were active in the past month. That’s some impressive growth for a company which runs the largest global social platform in the world. Facebook is doing a great job at partnering with companies that help expand their reach as the identity platform of the web.

As for the NBC websites that have implemented Connect, I’m not quite sure how integrated Connect has become. The NBC.com homepage now has a login button for Facebook Connect, but once your done does that mean you can share NBC content? That, I’m not sure of but I’d guess that NBC will get many more users logging in as a result of implementing Connect. Also interesting to note is that NBC appears to have a non-standard Facebook Connect button. Not that big of a deal but definitely interesting to see.

  3. Thanks for this interesting article! We just posted it on our facebook page (http://facebook.com/conceptbakery).

NBC seems to be on “social media fire”. First NBC debuts the sitcom “Community” on Facebook. Now they start to use Facebook connect across multiple sites. Seems like this company really starts to recognize the power of social media;)
