Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for the upcoming movie, “The Social Network”, which is loosely based (sensationalized) on the history of Facebook. While the new trailer doesn’t provide many details, it definitely emphasizes the dramatic perspective of things. The movie’s official site has been posted and is currently slated to be released later this year.
Whether or not this movie ends up being a winner, it is most definitely attracting a lot of hype. With tons of coverage of just the new movie poster, there’s no doubt that many onlookers will rush to see this movie despite its questionable historical accuracy. Add to the movie an all star crew, any reference to Facebook, and you have the recipe for a buzz-worthy movie. We’ll have to wait and see just how great the actual trailer looks once there are shots from the movie. In the meantime, you can see an early teaser below.

Looks a bit over-dramatised to be honest..

I find the strategy of Facebook more interesting and practically useful than the drama of initial startup founders.

I agree with the first poster; It seems awfully dramatic. Is that Kevin Spacey's voice? I would think that if it were, that his contributions would be more news-worthy than just a dramatic trailor with no scenes…

Wow! Horrible trailer.

I'm with Lee and Dragon Search. What a ridiculous level of dramatization. Let's keep in mind the guy did not invent the Internet itself NOR did he invent social networking. Myspace was huge around the time Facebook was gaining its footing, and Friendster had a following as well. And as for overall Internet impact, "Google" anyone? Keep in mind I'm only commenting on the dramatic license of the way this trailer is presented. The intensity of the trailer makes this sound like a story more riveting than 9/11. Please.

A *very* bad trailer, blame it all on Sony to put hoof in mouth a opportunity to get it while it's hot.

There's a cool precision and honesty to The Social Network, the story of the founding of Facebook, which guarantees its entertainment value even as it limits its emotional impact. You will know The Social Network is something very special from its first scene.
