While it’s not a new application, it’s pretty funny. For those of you that don’t know what LOLCats are, Wikipedia has a great definition: “Lolcats, a compound of lol and cat, are photos of cats with humorous captions. They are a type of image macro, and are also referred to as cat macros. Lolcats are created for the purpose of sharing with others on imageboards and other internet forums, especially on Saturdays (“Caturdays”). Lolcats are similar to other animal-based image macros such as the O RLY? owl, but the cuteness of cats “enhances” the appeal and increasing prominence of the Internet meme.” I have my friend Anastasia to thank for informing me of the popularity of LOLCats. When I initially added the application to my profile a couple weeks ago, the application wasn’t functioning properly. Since then it has been updated and now works flawlessly. Additionally, Andy Triboletti and Brian Phillips (the creators of the application) have been accepting LOLCat submissions to add to the application. At this point I’m sure they are overwhelmed given that almost 20,000 users have added the application to their profile.
