LGBT Holding First Online March for Equality

-Victory Logo-Equality matters, and that includes equality online. As a matter of fact, many groups have been able to promote their cause and push for equality, making their voices heard further and wider due to the ability to group together online. And that’s exactly what LGBT rights group Equality Matters has done in organizing the first-ever Online March for Equality. The online event will take place the week of the inauguration, from Jan. 18-24.

Well, we have the time frame for this virtual march, but where’s the place? All over the web. The organizers of this march are asking supporters to go to their existing social networking profiles on Facebook and elsewhere and change their profile pictures to one of the badges provided by Equality Matters. It’s a trend that became extremely popular during the presidential elections last year, and is a very easy, effective way to show one’s support for a given cause.

So what is Equality Matters’ cause behind this particular online march? Overall equal rights, including the ability to file joint taxes, make medical decisions for a spouse, or get certain benefits such as Social Security.

If you’re interested in joining up with the Equality Matters group, you can do so on Facebook. The Equality Matters Facebook group created for the Online March for Equality, which launched only last week, has already gained more than 40,000 registrations with the intent of “attending” the virtual event. Equality Matters is hoping to reach 100,000 members by January 18th, when the march will commence.

Given Obama’s decision to be inaugurated by an openly gay bishop, the timing is right for the Equality Matters’ online march, which takes place that same week.
