The best time to post on Facebook depends on which analyst you ask, or so it seems. The topic has evolved into a science, which makes the title of the infographic you see here so appropriate.
Saturday at noon is the absolute best time to post on Facebook, according to the following infographic from KissMetrics that uses data supplied by Dan Zarella.
We’ve got the Facebook portion of the infographic graphic, but the original version compares timing on Facebook with Twitter, and so does the expert analysis by our sibling blog Social Times. Let us know what you think by posting in the comments section.

Would these statistics be applicable to another country such as Australia?

Sounds like 2+2 =5 ?
I agree that the best day to post = Saturday.
But I bet the reason for most shares at noon is because that is lunchtime on a weekday (and likewise the peak at 7pm right after people return home after work).
So Saturday at noon is not necessarily the best day and time to post. An analysis of posts by hour on Saturday alone would be needed to confirm that.

I don't get the time zone graphic. It seems like there is an axis missing. At what time are these percentages valid? It would all depend on what audience you are trying to reach. People on late Friday night (West Coast) are tweeting about different things than users on Sunday morning (East Coast). There is no one optimal time. It depends on the content and the audience.

While most posts may happen on Saturday, I think the content/industry has a lot to do with optimal timing. If one's industry is shopping/entertainment/leisure, I'd say definitely a weekend is the way to go.
But coming from a B2B industry, I bet most people ignore "work" Facebook posts on weekends. They get buried under articles, announcements, and offers from consumer industries, and then never get seen again. I'm a fan of weekday morning posts, myself. They're up there and ready to be seen anytime during the workday.

Agreed, Kelli. As a B2B company, we still post on Saturday but find the most engagement during the week. Maybe it is different for B2C companies…

This is stupid. You can not generalize. It depends on your target and your audience.
If you post for young people you may not even catch them online on Saturday summers. You need to analyze and do your own research based on your needs, your content and your audience..

Great advice, especially when looking at scheduling posts for clients. Our social media clients have grown to an extent now where physically posting information on facebook and twitter is having to become more automated. Knowing what times work best definitely helps.
