Girl Banned From Facebook for Anti-Obama Comments?

-Cs Photo-Claudia from Miami, Florida claims that her Facebook account was blocked for going on “rants about Obama.” Claudia enjoys using her freedom of speech to rant about President Obama who has now been office for just over 24 hours. So would Facebook, an organization known for supporting the Obama administration, take this opportunity to cancel Claudia’s account? Is the company secretly removing all users that speak out against Obama?

I doubt it but Claudia is convinced that this was the reason her account was removed. I would bet that a democratic hacker switched her password before Facebook banned her but there is always a chance that it could happen. The last thing Facebook wants to do though is limit the conversation taking place on the site, no matter what the topic is.

Then again, if you believe that photographs are a form of conversation, you could say that Facebook is limiting the conversations about breast feeding. Personally I think the breast feeding debate is a bit ridiculous but there are plenty of others that don’t find it ridiculous at all. If the company is willing to make the extra effort of eliminating breast feeding photos perhaps they’re willing to go the extra mile and eliminate anti-Obama users from the site, right?

I doubt it. What’s funny about the experience is that Claudia is completely aware of her extreme views, and has become convinced that Facebook is trying to stop her from expressing them. Interesting enough though, she claims that she has been banned for over 3 days now, yet yesterday she was actively updating her status. I’m not quite sure what the real story behind this is but I’m hoping we find out soon.

Do you think Facebook would actually ban anti-Obama users?

  2. Well now Facebook is playing Big Brother on the information we post, this will have interesting implications if the situation gets repeated. By the way, I had an account banned and I had just me to blame.

  6. Not unless they also removed all 16,000+ members of "Anti – Obama and damn proud of it." or all 5,000+ of "ANTI-Barack Obama '08" or the 2,600 who are in "Barak Obama is the Anti-christ" or the 1,300 in "The Audacity of Inexperience: Anti-Obama 2008!"

    etc., etc.

Facebook isn't removing anyone for political views. What a completely silly claim…

  7. Facebook's not banned me for complaining about their service, and you'd think they would silence those talking down about them before they started going after people complaining about other things.

This is some publicity stunt by the girl, probably. I doubt she's even actually banned.

  8. I have had my privileges suspended by Facebook twice. Each time it was when I was browsing through members' pages from my alma mater.

They said that maybe I was changing pages too quickly – they may have thought I was a robot.

Good luck with restoring your page, CT.

  11. On one hand, I don't think Facebook censors the conversation that much and I don't think radical Obama views would cause Facebook to terminate a user's account.

On the other hand, my cousin, a soft-spoken individual who is an extreme supporter of Israel, had his account banned several months ago for speaking up against pro-Palestinian support on Facebook in instances when users attacked Israeli freedoms on public Facebook groups. He never used inappropriate language but instead attempted to promote Israel where acceptable. Apparently, there were numerous complaints against his agenda and Facebook responded by terminating his account. Do I think that expressing unfavorable Facebook sentiment can cause a user to have his account banned? It's happened more than once now.

  13. first off. Claudia's page is still active it hasn't been removed, So i don't know where this article is coming from, I'm with Mr Daniels on the bat zhit part. (I also personally know her)

And secondly yes u do have a right to voice an opinion, shit, i didn't vote for him but for other reasons not because of his race or ethnicity, who cares about that.

But seriously, he is in office, lets just deal with it and see what happens no picture posting of him in a turbine or bs remarks are going to get him booted out. He is the f@&cking man for right now, so just take it for what its worth and back him up, we are all on the same team, give the guy a chance.

  14. The case with Claudia,is interesting, and who knows what's going on,especially if after banning her,a message is displayed on her screen saying"you are banned from this site",but no explanation is given. This is what just happened to me on the site "bigaymen.com.I joined it march 30th,and posted a blog the next day entitled "Cheap Thrills On The Interenet".This was a blog, meaning dealing with what most guys are looking for as memberes on "gay personel sites".By the way,no name of any site was mentioned and I done it with class, not using profanity or cursing at anyone.I posted the blog early Monday morning,March 30,later that day,a message appeared on my screen saying,I was banned from the site with no explanation given.I don't know of any rule(s) I could have violated, and even so,I should have been given a warning. So,in my case,I think it's only fair to assume theres a "freedom of speech"issue here.I can futher base that on the fact, that after sending two messages to the site administrator asking for an explanation, with no response given back, that they can't give me a valid reason for banning me.So,again,in the case of Claudia,I would say,it's quite possible they did't like or agree with her comments against president Obama.
