Free McAfee Antivirus Software For All Facebook Users

-McAfee Logo-Facebook takes security seriously and tonight the company is increasing it even more by providing free anti-virus software to all Facebook users. It appears to be a joint promotion with McAffee, who requires you to become a fan in order to download the 6-month subscription. It’s important to note that this is only for PC users (yes, Mac users are fortunate enough to have no need for anti-virus software). This is not the first time McAfee has done a partnership with a large internet company.

At AOL, users were able to download free versions of the McAfee software. The purpose is to get users to convert to paying customers after their 6-month subscription has ended. It’s a standard promotional model and it’s one that worked extremely well for AOL as well. In contrast to AOL though, who charged a monthly fee at the time for using the service, Facebook is completely free.

If you want to get a free copy of the software (because you have an insecure PC that’s running Windows), you can head over to the McAfee fan page and get a copy now.

  2. I use Microsoft Security Essentials – has kept me virus-free for the last 3 months. And I didn't have to become a "fan" :-)

  3. I'm with Sanat.

And Macs don't need antivirus…. *yet* that is. There are Mac viruses, and I'm sure with the increased popularity of the Macintosh operating system, the list of them will only grow from here on out.

  5. DO NOT go for the free McAfee software deal. As the article said, they're just hoping to get you to pay cash after the free TRIAL is over, so if you're not planning on paying later don't install it. Plus there's lots of free antivirus softward that's just as good AND BETTER. Avast is a good free one and Microsoft Security Essentials (mentioned above by Sanat) is totally free and non-bias testing have shown it to outperform most other soaftware (pay and free) including both McAfee and Norton. Just don't fall for the free for only six months and then you'll have to pay annually trick to get an inferior product I wouldn't recommend even if it were free.

  6. If Facebook really wants to do us a favor, they'd give us a free lifetime subscription instead of six months. McAfee wants me to enter my credit card number so they can bill me when my free trial is over, but they're not telling me how much they're going to bill me… not until after I give them my number. Excuse my language, but that's bullshit! I'm not giving my credit card number to ANYONE who can't tell me how much they're going to bill me.

  15. There is no such thing in the real world as much as we hope for. We are walking dollar sign and not people anymore. I can't even find free or my husband and its ticking us off. There must be someone that has great and free of an antivirus. We are not going to worship anyone that soaks you for the mighty buck. They always have there hands in your pocket when your not looking. FREE is what we need in U.S.A. and CANADA.
