Over the past month we’ve been upgrading our Facebook statistics tools to keep up with the latest applications and pages, among other things. This week, we thought we’d take a look at some of the fastest growing games on the platform. Given that games have become the single most popular type of application on Facebook, we thought it would be useful to occasionally highlight those that are most entertaining.

If you haven’t heard of FrontierVille, you are probably a bit out of the loop. FrontierVille is the latest game from Zynga, the developer who build FarmVille. The application has added over 3.7 million users this week and continues to grow like crazy. In addition to being viral, Zynga has been investing heavily in advertising to promote the game and it shows. If you are looking to play the fastest growing Facebook game, you can go play FrontierVille here.FrontierVille By Zynga
Given that just about everybody would like to be a millionaire, it’s not surprising to see that Millionaire City, a Sim City-like game, has exploded over the past month. The game is now approaching 3 million users and has grown by 800,000 users in the past week alone. If you want to build your own city, check out Millionaire City here.Millionaire City
Not surprisingly, FIFA Superstars ranked as the third fastest growing game on Facebook this week thanks to all of the hype around the World Cup. With over 778,000 new monthly active users this week, the application is rapidly making its way up the overall leaderboard. If you are a big soccer fan, you can go play the game here.FIFA Superstars by EA Sports
Verdonia reminds me a little bit of the game Evony which is advertised like crazy all around the web. There have been other successful Facebook games in this genre, most notably “Kings of Camelot”. If you happen to be interested in the strategy games, go play Verdonia here. Verdonia by Playdom
Baking Life is by a newcomer to the the Facebook games space, ZipZapPlay. So far this game appears to be taking off like crazy with 700,000 new users this week alone. I can’t say it’s that original though as there are already plenty of “build your own restaurant/store” games. However if you are really into baking, this game is for you. You can go play Baking Life here.Baking Life by ZipZapPlay
Zoo Kingdom is from a new Facebook game developer but is in the same theme as numerous other Zoo games on Facebook. Ultimately, I’m not quite sure how this game differentiates itself from others, however it’s pretty clear that people are still interested in the genre. If you want to build your own Zoo in Zoo Kingdom, you can go do so here.Zoo Kingdom by Blue Fang Games
While somewhat Zoo-like, Horse Gaga focuses on letting Facebook users breed their own horses with their friends. In the game you can take care of various popular breeds, train the horses, and then compete with friends in racing, reining, and dressage. While I’m personally not a big horse person, Ubisoft has made a game that millions of users appear to enjoy. If you want to breed your own horses on Facebook, you can go play Horse Gaga here. Horse Gaga by Ubisoft
Fashion World enables Facebook users to create their own fashion store. Users are able to create clothes, put them on the stands, hire friends and decorate the store. While it’s similar to many of the other extremely simple Facebook games, this game has just under 2 million monthly users and is growing quickly. If you are into fashion and want to create your own clothing store, go play Fashion World here.Fashion World by Metro Games
Casino City has been on fire over the past couple weeks, shooting up to over 600,000 monthly active users as of this week. Letting users build and run their own Las Vegas Casino, this game has proven to be popular. If you are interested in building your own Casino, you can do so here.Casino City
Pet Games have always been popular on Facebook, starting with Pet Society, Playfish’s (now EA Sports) most popular Facebook game. Just like all the other pet games, Pet Resort lets you take care of your own pet resort, build and manage the place, and entertain multiple peoples’ pets. While not a single pet like many of the other pet games, you may have exhausted the pet genre already. If you haven’t though, and you are a lover of pets, you can go play Pet Resort here.Pet Resort by Playdom

Isn't it a little strange that none of the old standby IRL board games like Scrabble, Yahtzee, Monopoly, etc haven't gained any real traction on Facebook's platform?
I wonder why.. Are these just games with play with our grandparents or on snow days then just forget about them?
As an aside personally I don't get the hype over Farmville. Farmtown is much more social and better game IMHO.

I'd be interested in knowing the age demographics of those downloading game apps. Are games connecting with Facebook users of all ages or are they disproportionately related to the pages of teenage users?
In reaching out across Facebook to connect with different groups, it would be interesting to know which age groups respond to or use which applications most frequently.

Adding figures and statistics would add value to this article.
