Facebook’s Ongoing Security Battle

Over the past few days, Facebook has been fighting against a number of hackers and spammers who have been polluting Facebook with misleading links that have compromised a fairly large number of users’ computers. Techcrunch first reported about this virus yesterday and Facebook quickly posted a follow-up, commenting on the issue.

For those of you not aware of what was taking place, there were spoofed wall postings that were showing up around the site. This isn’t the first occurrence of such activities but it appears to be the first time that many people were notified about it. The links that were being posted were directed to pages that encouraged users to download malicious code which was ultimately a trojan virus.

As Facebook expands, the company will continue to fight against spammers and hackers. This is just part of their ongoing fight. Let us know if you’ve run into any hacker-like activity on Facebook. I’ve actually received a number of messages from people not posted by them over the past month, this appears to be a culmination, hopefully resulting in a patched security vulnerability.

  5. My facebook page was attacked by a Koobworm and various other trojans and spyware — initially 11 high, 125 medium — 5 threats, 153 infections. New posts on my profile include YouTube links with short number/letter combination file names, usually leading to porn (as I've been told). It has really messed things up. I changed my password, but now it apparently just remains open even though I log out. I'm trying to log on now, and the Internet is telling me I am being re-directed. HELP!!!!
