Facebook’s New Bookmarking System

As I wrote earlier today, Facebook has updated their bookmarking system and it may have a negative effect on application developers. I took a few minutes to do a quick screencast to show how this new bookmarking systems works. The main difference is that even if you bookmark an application you now need to sort where applications are placed on the “Applications” page. Check out the screencast below for more!

Update
According to one commenter this is a temporary system and Facebook will be modifying it over the next day or so. Oh well! At least you now know how to function within the existing system.

Update 2
Facebook has updated to the new design. See this post for more details.

  1. This is not the real way to bookmark. Facebook has stated earlier today in the forums that they are in the process of rolling out the new way and haven't yet done so. The changes will go live "very very soon" but they apologized for the inconvenience and confusion at the moment.

  2. Wow that is very cumbersome. What are they thinking! I hope this is still not the final way to bookmark an app. P.S. Thanks for the blog about Jing, I love it!

  3. I like the new facebook, but they really should, like, finish it before rolling it out to millions of users. It obviously still in beta testing, they're changing features every few days, the layout/shading/borders/etc is still awkward looking compared to the old one, etc. They *know* its unfinished or they wouldn't keep messing with it. Seems pretty immature to roll it out as "the" Facebook until its been fully baked for a while.

  4. Luckily this isn't going to be the final new way to bookmark & access applications. Facebook stated on the developer forums that the new way will appear "very very soon" & the new way will also allow users & developers to easily & quickly access applications to multiple users.I also hope the new header is not the final one either. It needs more tweaks to make it acceptable (mainly the dropdowns that we had on the original beta when it was first released to the public – they need to come back if they are going to even have some dropdowns – either all or none dropdowns they should have for consistency! & i vote all dropdowns!)
