Facebook Under Investigation!

Make sure your children are safe on Facebook because there are predators out there looking to attack! According to a New York Times article, the New York Attorney General, Andrew M. Cuomo, has subpoenaed Facebook. Cuomo is inquiring about how Facebook “handles complaints regarding the inappropriate solicitation of underage users.” According to a press release issued by Cuomo’s office:

In subpoenaing the company, Mr. Cuomo has asked for complaints received by Facebook regarding inappropriate solicitation of under-age users and inappropriate content on the site, as well as any responses by the Web site. The subpoena also calls for all Facebook policies on user safety and all representations made to consumers about the safety of the site.

This is the second state Attorney General to investigate Facebook’s handling of complaints of underage solicitations. Sounds familiar? Not long ago the same complaints were being thrown at MySpace. MySpace has definitely lost a lot of momentum and has handed over that momentum and some to Facebook. Facebook should simply add underage solicitation complaints to one of their options on the Facebook support hotline that I suggested earlier today. It will be interesting to see how Facebook responds, if they do at all.

  1. I am the mother of a daughter that is 14 years old. I have aggreed to let my daughter use facebook but the applications she is using are far from adequate for her age. Is there a way to block certain applications since she is not 18. She thinks that the applications are just for fun but I know too well that some people use these applications to take advantage of naive teenagers. I would be greatful to get an answer from you.

    Thank you,

  2. To Whom It May Concern

I had tried twice to get on facebook from an email sent to me by my daughter, but I could only get so far and it would cut me off. Then my other daughter told me how to go about doing it right. And so I did and got right on and now you have disabled my account saying that I used a fake name. I do not understand, why you are doing this. The first time I tried to get on I used a picture of my husband and me in front of our Christmas tree, the sentient time I just used a picture of me by myself, and that is the same picture I used the last time when I was able to get on. I tried to explain this in another email that I sent to facebook, and so far I have not heard a thing. So tell me what am I scoppes to do? I hope I hear something from someone, and get this fix so I can get back on facebook.

    Thank You
