In a time not so long ago, Facebook has a feature which enabled users to filter through feed stories based on the type of story and based on where that story originated from. While it disappeared for some time (after first appearing in 2008), one reader has sent us a screenshot of the feature back in the new design.
While almost identical to previous filters, the new design fits in with the existing design of the homepage. While I’m not quite sure why feed filters were pulled in the first place, I’m sure there are plenty of power users who will find the return of these filters to be useful. You can see a screenshot of the filters in action below.
Thanks to Anthony Ramos for the tip!

I sure hope they do come back. Losing them has made things very difficult for me. I miss a lot of updates I would rather I hadn’t missed and having those filters will help ensure i don’t miss future updates.

Cool. But still not as powerful as the feed filters we're building into SocialMore.

How do we turn on the feed filters so they will appear on our pages?

Hmmm. I don't have a drop-down menu with options on my News Feed with "Top News" and "Most Recent" with the new design.

What about the hundreds of notifications we receive every time we log in? We get so many application and game notifications that we don't get to see all, or just plainly miss the more important notifications.

I'm seeing this 'test' filtering method in my profile too (just since today).
I'm fine with FB doing their random tests, but what I hate is how they always fail to document or inform the test subjects about what's going down. I spent quite some time trying to figure out where my friend list filters disappeared to on the left hand nav….

Thank you for this article! I have my friends separated into groups and use my main group multiple times a day to read my short list of closest friends' updates. Yesterday these "groups" moved to the "recent" pull-down, and I couldn't find them until I found this article. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
