Facebook Testing New Homepage That Removes “Most Recent” View

Most Recent Gone IconAn extremely small segment of users has been shown alternative version of the Facebook homepage which eliminates the “Most Recent” view from the news feed. Currently the company is soliciting feedback from users about the new version of the feed, however it appears many users aren’t happy. As a search for “news feed most recent” displays below, most of the users seeing the new feed don’t appear to be too happy.

While the test is among a small group of people, Facebook is constantly looking for a way to simplify features on the site. As Mark Zuckerberg said at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California last night, the more options that you give someone, the more likely they won’t use them. However for those users who are actively using the feature, they tend to be attached to the feature.

The result is status updates like the ones embedded below. People are absolutely passionate about the smallest features on the site. Whether or not Facebook will decide to kill off “Recent Stories” is unknown. Ultimately it makes sense to have an unfiltered feed, however as any active Twitter user knows, at a certain point the unfiltered feed becomes overwhelming.

My guess is that Facebook finds some middle ground under which the link to view the “Recent”/unfiltered feed is relegated to a less prominent position. For now, Facebook continues to test new versions of the feed.

  1. i never thoght that the newfeed is real- i have a couplr of hundred freinds and maybe 50 posts a day so i knw i never saw all posts of all my friends. i wish i recieved them all in the order they were posted and not otherwise

    thank you

    Comment by tamari — July 22, 2010 @ 8:14 am

  2. The best workaround to this is to create an empty friend list. Clicking the empty list from the left sidebar of Home will bring up a feed that seems to match the old "Most Recent" feed.

    Comment by Michael — July 22, 2010 @ 8:17 am

  3. The "most recent" option is necessary for the peer driven interactive facebook games. Without it, time sensitive posts will expire before posting to players walls.

    Comment by Kim Hunter — July 22, 2010 @ 8:21 am

  4. This is madness. "Most recent" is the only way to display news feed chronologically, which should be default everywhere! Getting rid of it will mean a random mess on the home page. I never read "Top News" view, it's random and messy. I hope FB abandons this silly idea.

    Comment by Diana Czechowska — July 22, 2010 @ 9:00 am

  5. I really really hate this idea. I ONLY use most recent. I have no interest in what Facebook thinks I should see. If I am FB friends with someone, I want to read what they posted. I don't have 1000 friends and my feed is very manageable. I do not want Facebook's help with editing what I see.

    Comment by Meredith — July 22, 2010 @ 9:22 am

  6. Not only the Top News are random, but you can't delete them!

If you delete a story from your profile, in the recent news it will disappear, but in the Top News could stay there for months!

Also you must change from Top News to Recent News every day, it doesn't keep your choice…

Zuckerberg is an idiot, removing options is fascist, they did the same with the privacy options, they remove the choice to hide for example the news "XXX has become friend of XXX", now to hide it you need to hide ALL your personal info…

I hope they won't do something so stupid like removing the only news feed worth having, chronological and complete, not filtered by the stupid FB algorithm with a total random madness…

    Comment by Iacopo Cappelli — July 22, 2010 @ 9:24 am

  7. I think that since Facebook status updates tend to be slightly less frequent and slightly more content rich than Tweets, an unfiltered feed is less likely to be unmanageable. At least that's true of my feed. I would make Most Recent my default feed if I could, saving me the trouble of clicking it after having been afk for any length of time. I am actually fairly satisfied with the way it works now though, and would be really annoyed if they took that option away from me.

I credit Facebook for its relevance algorithms, they have done some clever work there for sure, but I still don't want to give over complete control to them in deciding what stories I am most interested in seeing in my news feed.

    Comment by Graham Blake — July 22, 2010 @ 9:56 am

  8. Yeah, this is idiocy. The first thing *every* user of Facebook does is switch to the Most Recent stories, first thing.

They're making it harder and harder to see everything you want to see, which makes no sense whatsoever.

    Comment by Otto — July 22, 2010 @ 10:06 am

  9. I think Experiments must be done but after the research done by the user of Facebook they must not be taken or thought to be into process of implementations…!

    Comment by Yogin — July 22, 2010 @ 10:07 am

  10. Absolutely ridiculous! To trust "Top News" is to entirely trust Facebook to decide who and what you want to see, and I don't blindly trust the mysterious FB algorithms a bit (it's not like I can tell it "always include all posts from such and such"). Just because 20 people (even if 20 of my friends) happen to commented on a distant acquaintance's post doesn't mean that I should see that for days and days, while completely missing out on my good friend announcing something important 5 minutes ago. Top News is playing roulette with your feed. I ALWAYS click "Most Recent" first, as it should be the default.

    Comment by Facebook User — July 22, 2010 @ 10:12 am

  11. Utter lunacy. If I didn't want to see updates from most of my friends list, they wouldn't be ON my friends list in the first place. What needs to disappear is the worthless "top news", which appears to work on a mysterious algorithm developed by three drunken monkeys & a stoned toddler.

    Comment by Jon Loveless — July 22, 2010 @ 10:21 am

  12. Agreed with all these sentiments. I NEVER use "Top News" b/c I don't want FB determining what I should be reading. I always want to see "Most Recent" in order!

    Comment by Diablo — July 22, 2010 @ 10:27 am

  13. Removing the most recent stories is just stupidity. not all stories get lots of comments, sometimes because some of my friends keep a small circle, but that doesn't mean I don't want to hear what they have to say.

if you are going to take the switching feature off – then have the stories sorted by date/timestamp with most recent at the top – instead of by popularity – because just because something is popular doesn't mean I want to read it repeatedly.

The more changes that are made the more bone-headed the changes that are suggested.

Myself and my friends are looking forward to when diaspora launches and we can kiss goodby too facebook for somewhere that does not have the agenda of selling everything I do say or look at and undermining all my personal privacy.

    Comment by Tom T — July 22, 2010 @ 10:30 am

  14. I had to re-read this twice to make sure I was reading it correctly; I thought for sure it was the OPPOSITE–that they'd eliminate "top" and just leave "most recent!" I ALWAYS click "most recent" over "top news" (in fact, I d it automatically now) because I find I suddenly see about 99% of activity I'd enjoy and would miss otherwise! I mean really; my "top" right now keeps showing a completely uninteresting status thread of a friend who has a small group of friends obsessed with it. Yet FB is insisting it's what I want to see most. Um, hardly! I fear this will eliminate a LOT of activity among my own friends. I fear friends will miss things I want them to see. Unless FB is indirectly trying to get us to commit to directly visiting more pages? If that's the case, just eliminate the feed altogether. What the heck?

    Comment by Ally — July 22, 2010 @ 10:54 am

  15. This is bonkers. The 'Top news' option is all but useless and the default should be 'Most recent' as the only way to get a meaningful chronologically-sorted feed. If they don't keep the 'Most recent' feed then Facebook will be unusable for anyone with more than a dozen contacts.

    Comment by John McConnochie — July 22, 2010 @ 11:30 am

  16. Are you kidding me?! I currently hate the fact that it isn't the default. By taking it away you're making FB useless to me. Do you have any librarians on this design team of yours? They should tell you what's what.

    Comment by Stephanie Wright — July 22, 2010 @ 12:21 pm

  17. I would be very unhappy with this change … I depend on my unfiltered news feed. As a college student life professional, Facebook helps me to be aware of the needs and concerns of my students.

I can filter my own news feed by hiding people or stories I don't want to see. Please keep an unfiltered feed readily available, or make it part of each person's personal settings.

    Comment by Cresanna — July 22, 2010 @ 1:06 pm

  18. Adding my hate for "Top News". I immediately switch to "Most Recent" every time I go to FB.

    Comment by Alison Brandt — July 22, 2010 @ 2:36 pm

  19. Crazy… Most Recent lets you see everything, Top News filters what might be interesting for you. Leave this one in please Sir Zuck

    Comment by Linto — July 22, 2010 @ 2:40 pm

  20. OK. Let me be the first to say I don't get it.

If average folks never change it from TOP NEWS to MOST RECENT, why disable the feature that power users — who do use the feature — use a lot?

    Comment by Stan Olshefski — July 22, 2010 @ 3:11 pm

  21. I do wish facebook would just leave things alone for a bit. There always seems to be an uproar anytime there is a change and apparently, this change would be no different.

    I hope they will reconsider.

    Comment by Tracey Warren — July 22, 2010 @ 3:31 pm

  22. I also always use the 'most recent', though I'll check the 'top news' if I have time, because sometimes something old is still being commented on, and because you can see friends' comments on non-friends' posts (which is a little creepy, honestly). But just because a post is popular, doesn't mean it is important to me. I like to see everything that my friends have posted, in order, and sadly, event the 'most recent' doesn't include everything. I wish it would, but frequently I go to someone's wall, and will see a post that never made it into my 'most recent' feed. And sometimes posts that were on it disappear, then reappear.

But as important as wanting to see others' posts, I'd like to have an even chance of my friends seeing mine. I purposely keep my friend list small, so I never amass enough responses to keep my posts prominent.

    Comment by scout — July 22, 2010 @ 5:39 pm

  23. Gotta agree. I always change from "top stories" to "most recent" because I'd rather scroll than miss something, and I want my updates to be presented chronologically.

The FB algorithms controlling the needs feed may do a good job for some, but they don't for me. :/

    Comment by Wendell Dryden — July 22, 2010 @ 6:01 pm

  24. I always use recent news.

The only reason they have "top news" is to save bandwidth and processing on their servers.

Without it, that will remove all functionality from the site. I'm not sure you'd be able to tell what's going on anymore at all.

Absolutely stupid idea to remove it!

    Comment by Chris — July 22, 2010 @ 6:49 pm

  25. I've been pretty tolerant of most FB changes, because its benefits still outweigh the annoyances, but being limited to a pre-edited feed would render FB nearly worthless. Top News does an extremely poor job of judging what I want to see. It's irritating enough to have to reselect Most Recent every time I sign in instead of being able to choose it as the default.

While I can understand the objections to too many choices, the antidote is not to allow no choice at all. That just doesn't make sense. 500 million *people* on Facebook, not 500 million clones.

    Comment by RebGrL — July 22, 2010 @ 8:59 pm

  26. Is there a single person out there who doesn't -immediately- switch over to "recent news" every time they get on facebook?

    Comment by John — July 23, 2010 @ 3:33 am

  27. This is the dumbest idea you guys have had yet. DO NOT get rid of the “recent news” because I get crap from two or three days ago on that crap you call “top news” I don’t care about two days ago, if I wanted to know that I would go straight to the persons profile and read their news feed. Stop jacking with stuff and let us keep something for a year. Simplify the things people really don’t use, like “Top news” and stop getting rid of stuff people actually like.

    Comment by Sarah — July 23, 2010 @ 10:31 am

  28. Please, change it back! I don´t want to see more stories on my fb, but the old Top news/most recent…Thanks

    Comment by dominika — July 23, 2010 @ 11:04 am

  29. I use most recent posts to communicate with people, find out what is going on NOW & for FV. There is no way for me to do any of this with your idiotic More Stories. Why can’t you leave well enough alone??? Or at least ask & notify a user before you pull this crap!!!! Switch me back to using most recent posts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yet another ticked off FB user!!!!!

    Comment by Stacey L Solem — July 23, 2010 @ 11:17 am

  30. By the look of it all those who have been effected have all said bring back the most recent tag.

Now I don't mind being a guini pig as long as I get asked first or even told about. But facebook cant be bothered to do so. I was asking my friends if they had experienced the same thing but no then I thought it was something I did. So after searching the iternet I find this story and a feedback questioneer by facebook. Now the questionaire ask you to leave them some feedback which I did only to get a message that they might not read it and they might not reply. WHATS THE POINT FACEBOOK. Now Im going to actually do something in my life then spend hours on facebook seems strange doing it now

    Comment by Robert Capener — July 23, 2010 @ 11:49 am

  31. Totally agree with the frustration! Personally, I don’t like the “top news” feed and I always switch to “most recent”. First, I’m on Facebook several hours a day for both personal and business use. I want my fan page posts to show up for people who’ve liked my page, not to get buried under someone’s drunken party pictures where a bunch of kids made comments to drive it up into the top news feed.

Having to go to “more stories” would drive me over the brink.

    Comment by Stacy Stateham — July 23, 2010 @ 11:56 am

  32. I’m one of the unlucky members of the ‘extremely small segment’ who has lost the “Most Recent” feed and has “More Stories” instead.

Facebook hasn’t solicited any feedback from me and I’ve spent too much time trying to find work-arounds.

I hope Facebook provides a way for me to give them formal feedback rather than to just post to sites like this one to say, “More Stories” sucks – Please give me back “Most Recent” so I can see my posts in chronological order. I am willing to provide Facebook useful feedback if lets me know how, but good luck finding this in Facebook’s Q&A section.

    Comment by DH — July 23, 2010 @ 1:03 pm

  33. I hate that FB took away my Most Recent …it is the ONLY thing I use to see my friends updates. They should just leave it alone and let people use whatever feature they want to. And the fact that I had no clue what was happening and was so confused on where my Most Recent tab went! My fiance had to look into what was going on. Please just give it back to us

    Comment by MaryAnne — July 23, 2010 @ 2:54 pm

  34. Please change it back!!!! This is very frustrating. I do not have much time to check facebook and I do not want to "swim" through the news when it is not in chronological order. If this is the way it is going, I'm no longer going to use fb. There is just not enough time.

    Comment by Joyce Kuethe — July 23, 2010 @ 6:04 pm

  35. I'm not happy either. I just wanted to post this comment in case Facebook personnel are gauging feedback and rely on the amount of negative feedback when contemplating changing back.

    Comment by Nathan — July 23, 2010 @ 6:14 pm

  36. This is the worse thing I have ever seen FB do…this is awful..I want my "most recent" posts back. Experiment with another use…cause this user hates it…If I wanted to see "Top Stories" I would have used that tab . . I hate it…Put it back like it was. 3 days of this has me furious…I can't see my friends posts without going to their pages individually…FB is not any fun like this…You all know we hate it…CHANGE IT BACK!! Experiment on another user now…You have experimented with me long enough!! Again….CHANGE IT BACK…I WANT MY TAB BACK FOR "MOST RECENT" POSTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  37. I hate the new test page layout or whatever they are calling it. Did never asked to be a part of a test/trail for FB and I would appreciate being asked if not least notified before they make changes to only a 'small' group of people.

  40. Any word on when we, the ones who are suffering from this stupid idea will get the most recent view back?

    Comment by TP — July 24, 2010 @ 8:25 am

  41. I say give us the choice in our settings. I personally always immediately click on Most Recent specifically because the Top News view excludes posts. If there is something that keeps showing up in my feed that I don't care to see (Farmville, MafiaWars, etc, etc.), I will choose to hide posts from that app. If it turns out it is a specific person that keeps posting things that I don't care to read, I will either hide posts from that person (and maybe un-friend them later) or just un-friend them. The point is that I use Facebook mainly to stay connected with people and brands, meaning I want to see their posts. If Facebook takes that away, then what use is Facebook?

    Comment by Jb Windham — July 24, 2010 @ 9:15 am

  42. I hate missing out on all my friends' posts. I've missed some important posts as well. I want my "most recent" option back. For now, I am off of FB. It's basically useless to me when I can't keep current with what is going on in the lives of my contacts. When will this experiment be over? I hate it!!!

http://www.facebook.com/help/?page=408 It is on the FB Help center link so hopefully they are really reading our opi…nions. If you did get this change please post your positive or negative opinion about the change. TY =]

The below info I posted for my MW family, but would apply for all FB applications you are following:

Just one more comment: For those having issues, and DID put all their Mafia fam on a Mafia Wars list, you can follow the feed like before if you click under friends from the homepage then click on Mafia Wars list. Unfortunately if someone didn't make the list for some reason, maybe the friend was suggested, then their feed won't appear. =[

    Comment by Moni G — July 24, 2010 @ 1:07 pm

  48. I'm wondering why anyone would want a non-linear progression in real time is beyond me. During the last 48 hours that I've been subjected to this mishmash I've had one friend's barn burn down, another welcomed her first grandchild, and a third's father had a heart attack. Trying to sift through non-linear feeds became a nut roll-they were all posted out of order-for instance, the first pics of the grandbaby was followed by post saying "We're still waiting". Re' the barn burning down- geez- here's an example of where real time counts when in comes to what kind of help is needed or has already been offered. As for the third case- I took forever to figure out whether the man was in, out, or back at the hospital (turned out to be the last)- all of which wouldn't have happened if the posts had been been put in "most recent" order.

What is to be gained from this?

As for implementation of the policy- ya'll need to learn a few manners. Give people a heads up, so they don't spend inordinate periods of time trying to figure out what happened to their pages, thinking that perhaps they changed a setting accidentaly. One last thing- as it is- this change essentially renders FB more annoying than useful to me, and could very well be the thing that sends me packing.

  49. This "More Stories" experiment SUCKS! If they don't return my "Most Recent" to the News Feed, I am going to just delete my account. The change to "More Stories" with no option for "Most Recent" is just a jumbled mess, out of order, things I'm not interested in, and I am missing out on the real time happenings of my friends. The "Most Recent" is really my only reason for having/using FB. If they don't return it, I am GONE…..

    Comment by Jeannie Dalrymple — July 25, 2010 @ 4:02 am

  50. I don't like the change either, but I found a way around it. Click "friends" on the left side, then "status updates". It will give you your feed in chronological order.

For the "peer driven" games, click "friends" then "games" to get the game feeds for collecting rewards, etc.

    Comment by E Davis — July 25, 2010 @ 4:33 am

  51. There is now way to see what is going on now. I do not like the change if they really want it down to one button please have the posts cronologically. Now if i want to see what people have posted I need to go directly to their pages which is very time consuming and makes facebook not worth the trouble!

    Comment by Amy — July 25, 2010 @ 5:17 am

  53. Facebook is becoming worthless to use if the they think people don't want to be able to see all there most recent news postings. I have to go to each friend's homepage if I want to ensure that I don't miss a posting that I might have wanted to see. I don't want to see messages scattered from all sorts of different time periods! I'll just quit using facebook if I have to continue dealing with this horrible new way of posting things on my homepage!!!!! I don't want the 3 story boxes on the top of the screen in place of most recent news feeds!!!!! Please fix this probem!!!!!

I have family members that only communicate through FB with me, and I'm missing some important posts. I have other friends who need help with various things, and post to FB….sorry…..can't help them out, because I haven't seen the posts in time. FB….will you PLEASE let us know how much longer we have to be guinea pigs? If it's a permanent change for us chosen "few", then let us know that too, so some of us can delete our accounts and inform our contacts. Thanks

    Comment by sharon — July 25, 2010 @ 9:38 am

  56. It totally and completely sucks, and renders the newsfeed useless. What pisses me off the most is that it was changed without me agreeing to be part of their "experiment".

    Comment by LG — July 25, 2010 @ 10:33 am

  57. What's the point? I guess if I had, say, 1000 friends and I didn't really care what was happening with any of them, then a random sampling of their posts would probably be fine since I wouldn't really be checking my page anyway. But, since I have a reasonable number of FB friends who are actually real life friends and I do care what is happening I want a chronological listing of their posts. Please, FB mucky mucks, if you are listening, please, please, please change my page back. I may just have to go back to the olden days and pick up the telephone or walk across the street and knock on a door to stay in touch.

  65. Most Recent is the only news feed I read. I really don't give a rats ass about Top Stories because it's usually people replying to a status that's absolute dribble. I like the chronological order, being able to pick and choose what I want to read.

    Comment by Elyse — July 26, 2010 @ 1:22 pm

  66. How much longer do we have to endure this craziness? I am missing so many posts….buried somewhere deep in FB Land. And, don't even THINK of clicking onto a link or away from Home Page if you HAPPEN to be wanting to read another post, because next time you come back to Home Page, the posts will be gone….moved to some other undisclosed location. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE………..enough is enough already. April Fools Day is only one day a year…..and this is July!!!

    Comment by Sharon — July 26, 2010 @ 4:27 pm

  67. and can SOMEONE out there please tell us how much longer this is going to go on?

    Comment by Sharon — July 26, 2010 @ 4:27 pm

  68. well i have over 1000 friends and they put "more stories" in place of top news/ most recent and I HATE EVERY MINATE OF IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want most recent back NOW!!!!!!!!!!! This is annoying and useless. I use fb daily to talk to friends and play alot of games and this messes up everything. The feeds are old and i can't get my game feeds so i can play my games like i use to or talk to my friends like i use to. SO PLEASE PUT IT BACK NOONE LIKES IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Comment by Sandra — July 27, 2010 @ 7:21 am

  69. the 'more stories' button is absolutely nonsense.

please give us the 'most recent' button back!!!!!!

otherwise facebook will be useless and i won't use it anymore!!!!

  70. Without a chronological order facebook will not be interessting for me … I hope they'll change it back – otherwise I'll leave (and so do my friends). *sigh*

  71. I HAVE MOST RECENT BACK!!!! Thank goodness the insanity has stopped. I'm almost scared to go back to FB though, for fear it's only a "teaser". There IS hope for those of you still dealing with the insanity.

    Comment by Sharon — July 27, 2010 @ 4:28 pm

  72. I hate it to not to see all the posts of the few friends i submiited at my fb. If i don't wanna see somebody's business , i don't add him as a friend. Give the 'most recent' button back or i will give up fb. It isn't worth anything if i can not correspond to all the posts there are.

    Comment by Vrijens Werner — July 28, 2010 @ 6:49 am

  73. This is weird. I don't have the "more stories" option – I still have "top stories" and "most recent", but here's the thing: They are BOTH exactly the same – BOTH are displaying the same OLD posts as a "top stories" would. I have over 200 friends, but the 3rd post is one from last night, when it should be something from a few minutes ago. There's something really screwy going on here.

    Comment by Paul — July 30, 2010 @ 2:27 pm

  74. I hate this! It's horrible! The idea is to be up to date with what your friends are doing but now all my home page shows are old photos from weeks and months ago and you have to go look for the status updates. WTF???!!! It sux!

    Comment by Alan Ellis — November 24, 2010 @ 4:19 am

  76. Either get rid of "Top News" or make "Most Recent" the default. I'm really getting tired of having to hit Most Recent every time I look at facebook. If they do not make it the default soon – I'm out if here.. I don't need Facebook that much..

    Comment by Maggie — June 18, 2011 @ 6:12 am

  80. I HATE the News Feed now. I see the same comments over and over and over and . .. . you get the picture. The reason I get on Facebook is to see what's going on with my friends. If this doesn't change back, i'll probably quit using it with any frequency.!!

    Comment by Mary — June 18, 2011 @ 9:07 am

  81. This silly experiment is still going on?? Mine just says "news feed", if I scroll down, at some random place in the news feed there is a header "Most recent", and under that the news is in random order, with duplicates. Useless, as in: unusable.

    Comment by Oscar — June 18, 2011 @ 7:13 pm

    Comment by martin veltkamp — June 21, 2011 @ 10:27 pm

  87. I absolutely do NOT like their new concept. FB has been changing mine for over a week and I don't like it. I have a twitter feed type list on my screen. If I wanted to be part of Twitter, I would be. The part that I really don't like is that there isn't any true way to let Facebook know that you don't like it. You can send feedback but I don't think they read them. I have seen tons of individuals that don't like this new feature. That would tell me to change it back but they apparently can't read.

    Comment by Gail — June 22, 2011 @ 10:25 am

  88. I hate it, I hate it, I hate it, I hate it. Not user friendly at all! And I'm usually very open to new layouts, this one stinks.

  89. how do you do that?

    Comment by may — June 22, 2011 @ 10:35 am

  90. This is awful! I don't even have a "more stories" button. I have to scroll down my News Feed to find the Most Recent. I also have no options when I click on Most Recent. Also a scrolling feature is on the right hand side that shows friends' status updates/likes/etc. HATE IT!!!! I like to have my Most Recent showing only and follow chronologically.

    Comment by LK inTX — June 22, 2011 @ 10:36 am

  91. I am furious!!!! Every day this week, my FB has been showing me the same posts. I can't get the most recent posts because the most recent option is not even available! Today I've looked at the same post all day long. This is ridiculous and even more ridiculous that I can't even get the help center. If FB is such a great business, then why isn't there a way for us to make contact with them for help!!!!

    Comment by Alice — June 22, 2011 @ 12:58 pm

  92. I hate not having the choice ! I want to see most recent back – not what facebook thinks I should be seeing !!

    Comment by leah — June 22, 2011 @ 2:00 pm

  93. I agree, Oscar… same thing here. All my page says is "Newsfeed" — NO 'top news' or 'recent news'… NOTHING in chronological order… it's been like this for at least two weeks and its driving me crazy! Sending feedback has done NOTHING! They send you a stupid e-mail that says absolutely nothing! What the hell can we do about this??????

    Comment by Mary — June 22, 2011 @ 3:07 pm

  94. Dear Facebook,

I'm not sure what there reasoning was behind changing the News Feed so there's five screens worth of "old" stuff before I can look at my Most Recent posts but I do NOT like it, not even a little. I spent the better part of today trying to figure out why I was seeing some posts twice.

This is NOT one of your better ideas…. Really.

    No love,

    Me.

    Comment by LIsa M Peppan — June 22, 2011 @ 3:25 pm

  95. I can't believe this change – unannounced, random and without an opt-out choice. I do not have More Stories to select either. The posts are random, old mixed in with new, duplicated sometimes 3 or 4 times. I'm spending double the amount of time to find new posts . I am so fed up that I signed up for a new account using a variant of my name so people can still find me and guess what? The new account gives me the Most Recent feature. What the heck????

    Comment by Deb Blanchard — June 22, 2011 @ 3:56 pm

  96. This new change on my home page really SUCKS!!!!! This is the first time I have complained about changes to FB. Only the center of my page will scroll, birthdays and events are missing, the updates are out of order. Why should I have to select Most Recent everytime I sign back in? Zuck what are you thinking with?? Please change my home page back and then leave it the hell alone.

    Comment by lala — June 22, 2011 @ 6:00 pm

  99. Please change it! I loke it the other way. No problems then. Now i dont keep online all day. Too annoying to keep up with!

    Comment by Yaya — June 22, 2011 @ 7:37 pm

  100. Tell Zuckerberg and his pals that getting rid of the "most recent" news page display option is not the way to respond to the recent stories about people leaving Facebook. Changing things around is just going to make more people leave. Many of us don't have an "overwhelming' number of friends (200 friends, some of whom don't post all that much, seems to be about average for people I know) and are OK with seeing our feed chronologically. Also, that "top stories" option tends to only bring up posts with 50 comments which are not necessarily the one from the friend who hasn't posted in a week that we most WANT to see!

    Comment by MaryC — June 22, 2011 @ 8:34 pm

  101. I want my most recent back at the top. This is ridiculous having to scroll through all the news first and then I get to see what is really going on. Stop messing with it it was good the way it was

  112. Due to the ever-clever-used-by-default-on-every-login Top News algorithm, I actually missed my cousin announcing her pregnancy! FB seemed to deem other friends' updates on carwash and vacuuming more important…

Apparantly Top News prioritises updates made by users with many facebook friends (and hence more 'likes' and comments on their updates). This is harmful I'd say, since it promotes a (FB) social life where you only care about updates made by "popular" users – in reality FB is trying to decide by algorithm which of your friends is more dear to you.

Facebook – don't "Pagerank" my friends for me. At least remember my preference to always see latest updates…

  117. I hate this new system! The constant movement in the right sidebar is terribly distracting and annoying. It also circumvents all of the privacy settings on my wall page. I don't want the whole world to know every tiny move I make, game I play, or "like" I click. And I don't care to read that about everyone else on my list. EPIC FAIL, FACEBOOK!!! This is about the last straw with me. You seem determined to undermine everything we do keep a bit of privacy and make things more difficult in general. I'm frankly tired of it and FB is rapidly becoming more trouble than it is worth.

None of the option bars that were supposed to be with it are on my page!
I thought it was for people with only a limited number of friends. I have a LOT of friends and without the option of recent news the feed page is often almost useless to me!
I did give it a try but no dice. This just does NOT work for me.

  137. This last change did it (speaking as one of the Guinea pigs for the new page layout). Losing control over my newsfeed drove me off Facebook. I complained bitterly (with no response from FB), but in the end had no choice but to end my use of the network — it was too maddening to have absolutely no say in suddenly having an FB force-feed me the news from MY friends that it decides I should see.

    Comment by bob d — September 9, 2011 @ 8:44 pm

  138. My page has been changed !!! I DO NOT Like it, I want My choices back or I will jump from facebook just as I jumped from myspace.there are other social sites to join. COME on Mark Zuckerburg…what are you thinking??? NO ONE likes the new page. I also think the people that were chosen (like me) to test this new homepage should have been asked if we wanted to participate, because I thought something was wrong with my settings, I spent an hour trying to find out why I couldn't see new posts. THIS SUCKS, to put it mildly

    Comment by Sara — September 16, 2011 @ 7:42 pm

  145. This is the 2nd time FB has done this. I don't view Top Stories because they are not recent, not chronological and I've already read most of them via Most Recent. Top Stories just recylcles the same stuff for several days. Now I can't keep up on anything I follow, only what FB deems fit for me to read over and over. I don't get this. Please give us the option to view Most Recent.

    Comment by Kitchen Garden Maui — September 20, 2011 @ 11:57 pm

  146. I just lost the Recents tab. This sucks. Is there an adult at FB who thought that removing the "Recents" tab was a good idea? Well PUT IT BACK! I always go to the most recent tab. OR if you really have to screw with it put everything in chrono order. Then the next time you get the urge to mess with it, hit yourself in the head with a hammer.

  150. That was the most stupid move Facebook could make. I demand you bring back the most recent news feed option. I can't find any sense of order with the new way. I need to be able to go backward from NOW chronologically. Anything else is a huge waste of time trying to find what we need to find. If you really want to improve the news feed, separate it out by game. That means that those that want to can look at what their friends need on one game at a time. It would save tons of time we waste scrolling through postings that don't relate to our game(s).

  152. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"! Have FB developers ever heard of that?! Everything I would say about the new news feed has been said above, but just to confirm – I hate it! It is of absolutely no advantage to me, and makes Facebook an unenjoyable and frustrating experience, when it's supposed to be the opposite. But worst of all – WHO THE HELL ARE FACEBOOK THAT THEY CAN DECIDE WHOSE STORIES ARE IMPORTANT TO ME, AND WHOSE I WANT TO READ FIRST? I am actively looking into other forms of social networking now. This is one 'control' too far, for me.

  153. I seem to not be alone in this feeling. I DO NOT like the new 'News Feed' that does not allow me to check the "most recent" things. I used that feature quite often, and would really like to have it back. Of all the changes F/B has made of the past few years I have been using the site, this has to be the most ridiculous and most user UN-friendly move that could be made. If it is true this is only a test, I failed. I am very much against this move. Please give me back the option of 'Top News' or 'Most Recent'. I am very frustrated with the lack of notification of my apps as well. Who are you to decide what I get in my email??? None of it is rude, vulgar or out of taste. I do wish there was a fast way to return to the way things were last Sunday, without the changes.

  155. Please bring back the 'latest posts' buttons! I need to look at posts quickly and have them appear immediately from newest to last – not 10 hours ago , mixed with 15 minutes ago posts… Currently I and most of my friends say they are reading far less on FB than we used to because we have to wade through endless posts trying to find the most recent ones otherwise. . And lots of other people feel the same way. Imagine a newspaper starting its front page with posts 10 hours ago!!. We all strive for' immediacy now'
