Facebook Testing Larger Album Layout

Want to view 100 photos on a single page? Not sure why you would, however Facebook is currently testing a new format for albums which does exactly that. It’s part of a number of upgrades that the Facebook Photos team is testing since recently acquiring Divvyshot back in April.

Early last month Facebook began pushing out a facial recognition feature and since then we’ve been receiving more reports about the feature from users. All of these features are part of a continuous improvement of the Photos application which single-handedly accounts for a large percentage of the time users spend on the site. The other area where users are spending time is within Games, which would explain why the company is pushing so hard for expansion of the Facebook Credits product.

Additionally, when a user views an album in this larger format, additional photos are automatically displayed as the user scrolls down the page. It’s a small change however it has a dramatic impact on the layout of Facebook Photos. Are you seeing this new layout?

  3. Thanks for featuring my screen capture. It is frustrating that they won't include "Photos" in the "Profile" subnav, it takes two clicks to get to your own photos. I'm also concerned that their new photo upload tools create a new album by default, this could lead to a lack of organization and too many albums for lazy users. Of course, I run the AccuWeather.com Photo Gallery so I'm biased ;)

  4. I like the new layout except for the fact that it creates a horizontal version of all vertical photos. I wish they could view these 100 but keep the original orientation of the photos. I also hadn't realized the view comments was gone, I do like to use this feature occasionally and would hate to see it go.

  5. I hope they consider developing the ability for users to re-order photo albums. That'd be lovely.

  6. They should add more shopping functions to photos like ordering photo prints (Shutterfly) and retouch services (PicWash). Then they can really make some more money I think.

  7. great shame u cant see the whole image anymore unless u click on each one separately.

very time consuming.i personally will not take the time now to view each photo separately therefore missing out on the joy of viewing friend pics and seeing my own layed out .

not attractive ..looks messy only seeing snippets of photos.

takes creativity out of laying out your photos now we can only see snippet of photo.

the 'organise' photo function does not correspond to the layout in the album. 5 pix in a row for organise and 4 in the final album layout. so all organise work u do is lost.

  8. i HATE the new layout. If they're going to keep this I would like a way for me to pick which part of the picture can be shown. So far all my vertical pictures have been cropped horizontally, showcasing my mouth or half of my face. I believe this should be something we can choose to have or not. I miss the OLD layout where the entire picture is shown; vertically and horizontally..now my pictures look like crap. I liked going from page to page..who wants to scroll for a long time down a page and only see bits and pieces of a great picture? i dont.

  11. It sucks!! It leaves me to completely close FB (not good for FB is it?) the pages won't fully load, i can't click my way out of it. any time i make the mistake of clicking on an "album" link, i find myself shutting down FB, and doing other(and better, more constructive ;) things

  12. Oh pleeeese. The auto-cropping looks so bad in album view and worst yet, now one has to click on a each photo to see the entire picture. Before this change, you could easily scan album pics for the one you wanted.
