Sponsored stories in both the news feeds and tickers of some Facebook users are starting to move beyond the like and adding new calls to action.
What’s Next Marketing Chief Executive Officer Ryan Cohn sent along these two examples of the same ad — one from the ticker, and one from the news feed — in which advertisers are beginning to incorporate some of the changes announced in September, using Facebook’s Open Graph to create action items other than like.
In the case of the pictured ads, the call to action is, “Check out this idea.”

Clarification: A Facebook source said on background that the first screen shot is not a ticker post, but a page post ad, which allows pages to promote their updates within their ad spaces, adding that it was published using a third-party application. Also, the second screen shot is a status update that enters users’ news feeds organically, which the page is using to promote its post.

This is simply a page post ad. The page posted an update which got into that person's newsfeed organically (that second screenshot is NOT an ad, nor was it taken from someone's newsfeed), and then that Page used that post in its ad creative (the first screenshot IS an ad). That's not in the Ticker that's in the normal Sponsored Stories position. The "Check Out This Idea" is pulled from the 3rd Party page post application.

It's worth noting the ability to customize the call to action is available only when you're advertising an app, not a page.

I don't want to appear as someone who endorses ads, whatever they are for, and i guess i am not the only one. I am thinking of deleting my account and migrating to Diaspora if they stick with it. But my guess is that this move will instantly create a 10 million haters Facebook group, and that Facebook will change its mind.
