Facebook Search Goes Down

Looks like Facebook search has gone down tonight or is receiving an update. Given that Facebook is looking to become the people search engine, this could signal trouble. If Google went down each time they received an update, they would be losing some significant revenue. While Facebook has yet to monetize their search, one can only expect them to in the near future.

While I hope that Facebook is making a significant update, I am somewhat skeptical. I have been having issues with my Facebook connection throughout the evening. Perhaps Facebook has narrowed down the source of the problem to their search. At this point though all I can do is guess. One thing is for certain though: when you try to search you will receive a message that says “Search is currently unavailable. Please try again at a later time or right now.” At least they have a little humor. Have any ideas?

  1. I don't have any ideas, but like you I find it odd that Facebook's quality of service is out of step with their revenue aspirations. As they try to grow their user base, they absolutely should be aiming for 100% uptime. If their business is valued at anything close to recent estimates, Facebook should have a whole team working on the user experience.

  2. Their search does this from time to time. Right now my search is fine and dandy. Usually when I run into this I just try the search again "right now" and it works perfectly. Sky ain't falling my friend.

  6. This has happened to me numerous times before. I simply refresh the page or go back to the main page and search again, and it works fine. Also finding when I search for someone and then go to click on their name it sometimes doesn't allow me to go to the profile. Like clicking the link does nothing.

  11. Something odd actually…

I only get this message for a specific name I search for; if I search for another name, it works just fine.
