Facebook Removes Polls Product

-Facebook Polls Icon-Last June Facebook launched a polls application which received a fair amount of buzz but within a short amount of time, polls went unnoticed. This morning Techcrunch wrote that the application has gone missing. Facebook responded to Techcrunch stating that “Facebook is exploring options for making a polling product publicly available again in the future but has no definite plans to discuss at this point.”

It’s not surprising to see the product disappear considering that the polls were statistically insignificant. You could pay for polls of up to 100 people. So why didn’t Facebook expand the poll application to add more features or expand the number of users that could be polled? We have no idea but this is one other product that has been pulled from Facebook’s timetable.

I wrote about Easy Vote last June which launched days after Facebook polls. There are a number of other applications as well that provide polling services but one thing that these applications don’t have access to is Facebook’s existing broad user base. Unfortunately though Facebook has taken the product off the table for the time being so there may be yet another opportunity for developers to step in and fill the void.

Will you miss the polls product? Did you ever use it? Was the product useful?

  2. faceoogle ha – they need more!

maybe someone should get facehoo and facelive going or faceoogle with some more customisation – too much google on that page for my liking but good concept particularly 'Facebook news'

shame they can't do something with that custom search as a Faceoogle logo would make me like it more.

  4. Can individuals on the polls be removed? Can individuals on the polls have more than one account? If someone on a poll threatens someone with disclosing private information, can that be dealt with by Facebook? How is profanity dealt with?
