So you just downloaded Facebook’s new iPhone application with excitement hoping to post your first Facebook check-in with the new Places application, but for some reason you can’t, right? Don’t be alarmed. Last night I too was confused as I was greeted with the new Places icon in the Facebook iPhone application but couldn’t figure out how on earth to check-in. Instead I’m teased by my multiple friends who are checking in around the world.
Fortunately, the problem isn’t with the application, but instead that the roll-out is limited right now. While you can view what your friends are checking into, not all users have an actual check-in button. What a tease!!!! Why would Facebook roll out the product and not let all users check-in? I guess Foursquare at least has a few more days of survival while Facebook users wait with baited breath to have the feature.
It’s kind of annoying when a product has a ton of hype and then it’s followed up with limited access. Do you have access to the Places application on your iPhone?

My question is though. will the check in button suddenly appear when it is available or will those of use who do not have the check in option have to download another update to get it?

Must be nice to be able to actually use in – stupid US only.
Not like the majority of FB users are not US based. [citaction needed]

I downloaded the new iPhone app this morning and received this message when I clicked on the Places icon: "This feature will be available in your region soon. Thank you for your patience."

Great! But what if you have a Blackberry or Android phone?

I'm in Dallas-Ft Worth area, and it's not available yet. Big market, odd that they didn't roll the feature out here yet.
Second, Nick, how do you get that particular view on your iPhone? My Friends page still displays same as always, and not a single friend shows to be checked in.

I have the "Places" icon but it's not working. Just a new pretty icon I can't use.

"We know you're eager to give the new Places product a try, but please be patient. We're rolling this out over the next few days to people in the U.S."
If you have non-iphone devices you can always use the web version at touch.facebook.com when its rolled out to your account.

Don't feel bad, I'm in @#$@#@ northern california about 10 miles from Facebook headquarters and no check in button here either. In fact I was at Facebook yesterday, should've seen if it worked there…
