I receive numerous emails every day from users looking to have their accounts re-enabled. After informing that I can’t do anything about it and forward them Facebook’s email address, users typically have their account turned back on. On a few rare occasions, users are permanently banned for violating spam policies or any other number of terms. It’s unfortunate because many users have become substantially dependent on the “social utility”.
Yesterday I received one such email from an individual pleading for help since they were informed by Facebook that they won’t be able to get their account back. Most of the time users don’t specify what their violations were, simply that they are looking for a way to get the account turned back on. This user also failed to explain what was wrong but I assume that Facebook had their reason for shutting off the account. If Facebook is truly a social utility though, should they be shutting down accounts so frequently?
When was the last time that you had an email address disabled? Anybody that decides to send out spam from their server typically has little issues because the hosts don’t care how you are using your servers for the most part as long as you aren’t affecting other customers. The bottom line is that when you get an email, sign up for hosting, or get any other type of service you can use it how you’d like and rarely are accounts shut down except for those that have blatantly disrupted the service.
Facebook has a relatively low threshold for disabling user accounts both temporarily and permanently. For instance if you start adding a ton of friends when you register for the site you’ll immediately get a warning that you are adding too many friends and that your account could be disabled. Often times users don’t pay attention to the warnings and their accounts are soon unusable.
Most of the time they have nobody to blame but themselves. If Facebook is really supposed to be a communications utility, should they be disabling accounts so frequently? I remember AOL had similar policies back in the 90s, regularly disabling accounts that had violated the terms of use. It’s not often that you hear about email accounts, phone lines, or other communication utilities being disabled though.
So what makes it right for Facebook to do so then? Do you think Facebook’s restrictive policies help protect the site and reduce spam, or are do they hurt the site’s ability to grow faster? Have you ever had your account disabled?

Facebook is not a public good; they're a private entity. While it sucks for users, it's "fair" for them to do whatever they please with your account as long as it's in the TOU you read when you signed up. Contracts are contracts, no matter how dependent you are upon the service.

I've never had my Facebook account disabled. Honestly, I'd be pretty lost if I did.
However, I have had an email account temporarily disabled. I won't get into all the details, but in the course of helping a friend, I did something I shouldn't with university computers. It wasn't illegal, or even particularly bad, but it was against university policies. My account, including access to my email and all computers in the Computer Science department were taken away without warning.
I needed that account to turn in my programming assignments. And suddenly, without warning, it was gone. I had to go see one of the department heads in her office, apologize profusely, and beg for my account back. She gave it back, but I was awfully nervous for a while.
She told me that if I ever broke another rule, even a tiny one, my account would be permanently removed, and I would have to deal with whatever academic consequences that brought.
Anyway, their decision to disable my account was wholly justified, and I never questioned that decision. I had broken their rules, and they punished me. It was completely fair.
Facebook is the same. They've set forth certain rules regarding using the site. I think their rules are good, as it keeps away spambots, pornbots, and the like. If someone gets their accounts disabled, they should just think back to what they've done on the site and try to figure out what rule they broke.

I read an insightful article yesterday (http://adage.com/digitalnext/article?article_id=133896) on AdAge about account disabling and made a comment about my own experience with Facebook. One of my blog URLs has been deemed offensive content by Facebook and I have no idea why: http://sadieshihtzu.blogspot.com/ Facebook get so many things right but they get so many wrong too.

My account was disabled two days ago with no warning or explanation. I've emailed Facebook several times now and have heard nothing. I'm still hopeful that my account will be restored since I did nothing wrong.. no really, I did nothing wrong… but it does seems a strange policy to disable people for using the platform for what it was meant for… connecting with people. In my case, connecting with about 90 people over the course of several months? Makes no sense.

I've been disabled 13th feb. 09. The reason is a strange one : "Aïcha Disco" was a fake name for them though i let other users find me with my real name "aicha mahjoubi" in Name options. I'm a Disco Dj and party promoter since 2004, anyone in my network knows me more by my disco activity than by my real name. So one day, an automated administrator decided to disable my account.
Since that day, i write emails everyday to disabled@facebook.com, polite ones of course where i explain why my account wasnt a fake name, and that o-kayyy i ll use my real name after that.
we are the 18th feb. i still have no news.
Facebook should send a notification or a warning before completely put you in "social black out"
i just hope i ll recover my friends, groups i admin, events i must animate too… that s a real pain in the neck not to be able to react on time.
i know that i ll put more administrators for events and groups. and i know i definitely MUST "transform" my "friends" into groups.
how many time did it take for you to recover your account?

Having been disabled from Facebook account for a nearly a year ago,the reasons need to explain further by the company why the users have been disabled from thier free accounts. Instead of email explainations. Like in my case I was accuse of someone whom I didn't know or did Facebook not like my politics? I was invited to join facebook. Beside the term of use policy, the disable policy needs a severe review becouse to disable someone is going against thier rights as as user. Especially when a user has done no wrong.

My fb account was disabled a week ago. I received an email from fb that my account had been hacked and to click on a link and reply to the email. I thought the email was a hoax so I deleted it. I don't like clicking on links from unsolicited emails. Now my account is disabled and I can't get any response from fb on how to re-activate it. Frustrating!!!

I just wish I could have my facebook account back to keep in touch with the people I am close to and it's a hassle to create a new profile from scratch. Why do they have to be so anal?! It's frustrating and I wish something could be done about this.

I would like to request to make it enable again.
The reason iI can think of is that adding of friends so fast. Those people that I was adding are actually requesting to be added too for the reason that we are both playing the same facebook game. It is a game from which all the players would want to have clans as it is necessary to win the play. In order to become clan members to the other player, one would need to one to be a friend first to him. I am not spamming in any way and not annoying other users.
I apologize for violating your Terms of Use. I am promisising never to do that again.

Facebook is a private service, yes. But, it's free, and suggests you add everyone you know, communicate with them often, upload photos, etc.
The account disabling offer occurs seemingly at random, for users who have done nothing wrong. Why?
If an account is disabled, what recourse does a user have to get THEIR data back? (photos, contact info, and delete any profile information)
Is facebook disabling accounts so that people sign up again, and thus they have "more" users?
Comment by stumbled — March 27, 2009 @ 8:08 pm
The thing about facebook is that they are not informative at all. They disable an account, and just move on. There is no "contact us". The only thing is to send them an email they probably will never read.
And yes there are a private site, but when it comes to them seeing our private data (yes it's there even when u get disabled, even when you die, they will know all your records, they're like the CIA) we close an eye, and say that is ok. But when it comes to disabling they don't even listen to us. I mean what would it cost to them to make a help channel, with a queue to be voiced, and 3-4 persons who stay there (Instead of having emails, which get never replied)

I had mines blocked last night. I need it badly for communicating with friends and family. Also for networking for my career. I need to talk to someone urgently this weekend and the only way I have is through there. If I miss out on it I will lose out big time as they will think I am ignoring them or have left the site. I don;t know what I did to deserve it. I have seen so much bad stuff on there and nothing happening but an innocent user gets disabled
Comment by Bhup — April 11, 2009 @ 8:01 am
FB recently disabled/shut down my account/profile and I've got to say that I'm furious. Its not that I care about a profile all that much – but there were 100s of pictures, some of which were ONLY saved on FB, 100s and 100s of songs and videos I had added to iLike over the course of a year +, all of my friends, some of whom I'd forgotten how to spell their last name and then couldn't find them again, and over a year's worth of posts and some saved messages that were pricess to me. Just as infuriating – is that this is a social utility and their acting like Natzis! I was receiving warnings for about a week … each time I clicked on "wall to wall." That's the feature under the post someone left on yr wall – that enables you to see your wall history with your friend and write back to them via that feature, rather than have to go all the way to their profile. If I used that feature 20x a week that's a lot, yet nevertheless – I was receiving these warnings. So, I began to email warning@facebook.com – which is the address I was told told to email, after receiving an actual email from facebook saying that I'm misusing a feature. I wrote them every day and never received a response. Two days ago, without thinking, I wanted to respond to a friend who wrote on my wall and too quickly clicked on "wall to wall" and before I knew it my account was gone. I've now written to warning@facebook.com, disabled@facebook.com and info@facebook.com and not one person has responded to me. I've been on the net for 16+ years… and on every social networking and blog site that was ever introduced to the Net during that time and I've never seen anything like this. They're disabling users for using the features they're giving us to use … its ridiculous. Something really should be done about this, because it does remind me of Natzi type behavior. What type of site warns, threatens, accuses and then disables users from their site for doing nothing short of utilizing features the site has provided for them to use? Their tracking program is random – its obviously malfunctioning, because countless users who have done nothing wrong are being disabled and they do nothing to correct it. I've lost 100s of pictures, pictures I can't replace – an uncountable amount of hours worth of videos and songs added over the course of more than a year and so much more. I'm so disgusted at this point … between their horrific "new design/downgrade" – which disconnects people from people and takes the "social" out of social networking, and now this …. I'm wondering if Facebook is even worth the energy anymore.
If anyone can figure out how to get my account reinstated that would be wonderful, because they DO NOT respond to my emails.

Hi, I just had my Facebook account disabled last night and I do not know why that is the case. I have never done anything wrong on there. I have maybe been on there a little too much, but its only because I chat with my friends online there because I can't download AIM at work. What kind of social networking site automatically drops your account without warning? I really wish I knew what I did wrong. I have read the ToA many times and I dont think I did anything wrong. This is lame and hopefully, Facebook will come to their senses and stop this nonsense.

My account was disabled because I was requesting friend data too often. I had Snap2Face configured to update every 5 minutes. I asked Facebook to reactivate my account and they finally did after 5 days. Here is the email I received from Facebook after the reactivation:
Your account has been reactivated. Please significantly slow down the rate at which you browse Facebook, or your account may be disabled again. We would recommend that you discontinue the use of the Snap2Face application as it appears to be flagging your account as abusive. Please notify the developers of this application that this problem has occurred. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.
Basically, Snap2Face works great, just don't configure it for 5 minute updates or they will think you're a spammer.
By the way, Facebook deactivated my account without warning. It worked fine one day, but I was unable to login the next. They did not even send me an email to explain why.myaccount name is samadtokonamin.my mail samadtokon@yahoo.com.please active my account.

I found out today, that I have had my account disabled. The only thing more ridiculous than it being disabled is the reason why. I posted on my friends wall. No innapropriate messages or content mind you, just a talk with a friend. NOTHING in their TOS says I can’t talk to my friends, NOTHING in their TOS says I can’t post on my friends walls. I have yet to receive anything close to an intelligent reason as to why I can’t post on my friends walls. All I get is, “you post too fast.” Well, what are the limits or rates at which we are allowed to post I ask, “Well, we can’t tell you that, but you exceeded it.” What kind of policy is this exactly? They can’t expect people to abide by the usage rules, when they refuse to make those rules available.

I had 2 facebook accounts disabled. The first one I set up in the name of our deceased son. The website said "In Loving Memory of…". All my family thought it was great & were going on there to leave stories, memories, etc. & I was uploading photos of him from childhood on. My daughter-in-law found out & was furious, so she reported me to facebook as an "Imposter" account & they shut it down. Two days later, my other account was disabled. I had set it up as "BobandDenise" & put a photo of him & me as the profile picture. Facebook told me that this was considered a joint account, which they don't allow. I am e-mailing them every day, but it's been 5 days & they haven't replied, even though they said it was "temporarily" disabled & to let them know the individual name that would be "going forward with the account." So, I keep hoping…sure helps to read the rules!

My account has been disabled.
They gave me a warning sign, so I stopped.
But still, my account has been disabled.
What is wrong with posting share to my friends.
It gave a sign that it was repeative action as spam.
But it was not a spam, it was just a link to my friends to join my group. If that's wrong doing, what would I even waste my time to use this application.
I didn't even know that so many people were having same problems. I've never had this experience from friendster or myspace or any other applications.
If facebook doesn't change, I wish all the users use other applications instead of this.

I had a facebook account for awhile, I didn't use it much for over a year- maybe more. I added a friend at their request and within a few days I ended up adding dozens of friends through a network of friends (close to 100), I was a prominent member of an organization of which former members now seek support through networking tools like facebook. In addition to adding many friends I did have some nude pictures on there, I admit that I did not read the fine print and I thought that only a few friends could see the pictures. I'm a little surprised that freedoms are surpressed and censorship is so punitive when facebook friendships are restricted to only those you allow to see your account. What happens between friends is the business of facebook? It was sharing pictures with close friends only, I wouldn't want my mom to see them – therefore I wouldn't accept her as a friend. All of the sudden I was disabled. I have mixed feelings about it all. I question how "private" facebook is and I question their "punishment." There was never an opportunity to correct the situation, which I would have gladly done. I question the "right" facebook has to allow you to establish a network that they arbitrarily take away, without any kind of due process there will be friends with which I will never be able to reconnect. There are limits to how much any business can regulate or censor its customers, even violate their constitutional rights, when they invite the public to their business. If I am in a store and the store doesn't like a picture I show a friend, can the store kick me out? Can they ban me from the store permanently? How far does public policy allow us to go with the censorship? Facebook is a private company, but so is the telephone company – can they disconnect a call because they don't like the subject of my conversation? The post office is not public, can they refuse to deliver mail they find offensive? If I violate the policies of the phone company, post office or any store, do they have the right to dismiss permanently without a hearing? Personally, I think it is a lawsuit waiting to happen.
Comment by Troy Daniels — May 1, 2009 @ 4:19 pm
Follow up to my lawsuit comment… Generally harm or loss must attach. In addition to the emotional distress people suffer, what about the connections people make to stay with others around the world? When those connections are lost, it isn't difficult to calculate a monetary loss. In addition to many other scenarios, there may even be medical or healthcare advice being exchanged that could cause serious injury or death. I realize that facebook is putting the public on "notice" when it has the policy online. However, those wrap-around or adhesion contracts do not stand up in every state. Facebook should have an expectation that they could be hauled into court in any jurisdicton through long arm statutes. I'm sure they address that in their "contract" as well, but, again, those don't always stand up.
Comment by Troy Daniels — May 1, 2009 @ 4:38 pm
What's also interesting is that apparently some receive a warning and some do not. This is but one of the warnings found on facebook's "help center warnings."
"You received this warning because a photo or video that you uploaded has been removed for violating Facebook's Terms of Use. Photos and videos containing nudity, drug use, or other graphic content are not allowed, nor are photos or videos that depict violence or that attack an individual or group. Unfortunately, for technical reasons, we are unable to provide further information about the removed content. In order to prevent this from happening in the future, please refrain from posting photos or videos of this kind and remove any that still exist on the site."
http://www.facebook.com/help.php?page=421
Apparently there are different standards for different individuals. It would be interesting to see the different standards used (i.e. is facebook discriminating?). Does facebook have less tolerance for gays, lesbians, blacks, hispanics, women, etc.?

In common day practice, if u do something wrong, 1st verbal warning, then a written warning , then Disciplinary action (disabling account – temp or permant, depending the severity).
I got disabled then the warning, Disciplinary procedures dont work like that. Facebook needs to learn how to do things properly

My account was disabled for reasons which remain obscured by the “bot” driven administration of the Fb TOS. There are many ways to create and maintain social networks through Yahoo! and MSN, My Space, Xanga, etc. Fb may be in danger of becoming one of the biggest e-frauds – claiming 200 million members, while most people know that many of their friends have multiple accounts, while others have accounts that haven’t been used actively for years.

Request to Reactivate my facebook account..
I have the same problem like many others who got disabled in facebook for 4 days already.
Disabled by reason, either added friends too fast or clicking too fast on certain functions.
I'd like to say, like many others here I have no intention to create any spam or damage to facebook or any people. But the same problem may be cause from requirements from games such as group adding provided by facebook.
Facebook is a very good wesbite that helps build a network of people. Facebook request to fill-in real data in the account of the user, disabling personal accounts is severe. User will lost all records such as valued information, friends, family members, colleagues and work related, etc.. Therefore, all these contacts and information are forced to be lost!
Understand that facebook needs to have ground rules in order to maintain the safety and security. But we are pretty sure a majorities of users who got disabled here are not hackers or spammers. And we all wish to use this account for long term.
Please do give all of us a chance to get back to our account. I believe many will be grateful!

Request to Reactivate my facebook account..
I have the same problem like many others who got disabled in facebook.
Disabled by reason, added friends too fast
I’d like to say, like many others here I have no intention to create any spam or damage to facebook or any people.
I believe many will be grateful!
thanks

May I ask everyone "How should Facebook change its account disabling policy?" at least to me is quite simple. Before I present my answer, I want to ask Facebook if there is anyone at Facebook that knows how to reason and treat people in a humane manner? The reason I ask this question is because Facebook on the surface appears to be user friendly and concerned about its members. However, upon closer examination Facebook does not have a due process and does not care at all about its members rights and feelings. Here are a few examples. Facebook limits the number of friends you can have and limits the number of friends you can make in a given period of time, limits the number of groups you can belong to, limits the number of messages you can send in a given period of time, limits the number of “polks” you can make and no doubt other limits I am not mentioning. All limits are ruthlessly enforced by giving you warnings you are breaching Facebook's limits without telling you what the specific limit number is and then disabling a member, or abruptly disabling a member without a warning and without saying what limit rate was breached and of course without a specific number that is deemed to be to "fast." Most members are permanently disabled and are told that Facebooks decision is final and there is no recourse. To me this is analogous to giving speeding tickets without having a speed limit posted. In Facebook warnings and in their disabling message they call a "guilty" member a scammer or spammer and further say you "may be" infringing upon the rights other members by harassment.
Now to answer the question " "How should Facebook change its account disabling policy?" To me all Facebook or should I say at this time "Facelessbook" has to do if, dare, I use the terms thinks or feels, it needs limits to guard against real threats to security is to program in limit governors that will stop the breach of policy before it is breached. Limit governors will enforce the Facebook policy of limits and will as well be a security measure to guard against real scammers and spammers. A limit governor is the same thing as a speed governor on a vehicle. As an old farm boy from Iowa I fail to see the difficulty in having a limit governor policy and implementing it with a computer program. With limit governors in place members will not be disabled because they will not be allowed to breach polices and real scammers and spammers will not be able to operate so why be a member?
If Facebook is treating its international members with ruthless complete disregard for their rights and feelings like it treats it domestic members with ruthless complete disregard for their rights and feelings I believe Facebook is not only giving itself a black eye it is also giving the United States of America a BIG black eye in the eyes of the rest of the world. I ask Facebook to please wake up and see the light. If you are so paranoid about your members governing themselves by self enforcement of your unknown limits and rates than at the very least give members an exact number that is considered a breach of your limits and rates and or place your own limit governors on whatever you want to governor and stop disabling members who are actually your friends as well as friends of other members. I believe if Facebook will place its own limit governors to enforce its policies or even better do away with limits and allow freedom to reign you will be creating good will for yourself and most importantly from your members and disabled former members.
One final note. In all fairness (?) to Facebook, Facebook SAYS it has an appeals process, customer support and a disabled contact to assist disabled members to sort through what has happened and evidently to somehow offer hope of membership reinstatement. However, because I know from first hand experience, the contact services are in fact a cruel automated ruse that does not reply at all or replies with an automated reply and nothing is done. There may be a very minuscule minority of disabled members who have been reinstated but a large VAST majority of disabled members are ignored and do not receive a due process and are never again allowed to be a member of Facebook. I want to ask everyone if Facebooks current polices and practices are what the United States of America is founded upon? Thank you for your time and interest in my answer to “"How should Facebook change its account disabling policy?" Sincerely yours, Mark A. Dix, Brooklyn, Iowa, USA
Comment by Mark A. Dix — June 15, 2009 @ 6:37 pm
Hi Mark,
I dont think facebook has the face to do what you are sensibly offering. Facebook just wouldnt want to give the impression that it has limits for the number of messages that can be sent by letting the world know what the limit is.
I was disabled two years ago for violating this rule. I recently opened another account (with a diff. email address ofcourse), and when I wanted to join my univ. network that I used to be a member two years ago using my univ. email address (different from the email address I had registered to facebook then), I was surprised to find out that it was disabled.
I emailed facebook naively asking why this happened, and guess what! Couple days later my account is suddenly disabled again!
Everything aside.. I do not think that I ever abused facebook, but it is a fact that facebook is abusing people.
WHY? Because it is permanently disabling accounts when the users (anyone with a commonsense) do not suspect that such a punishment is about to come. The punishment is so unreasonable that as you see in my case.. it follows you forever as though you have been cursed.
It is a social network for gods sake not the military!

One more thing.. if you enter your email address on the log in page, without entering your password, you still get the message stating that your account is disabled. This means that anyone who enters your email can find out that your account is disabled.

why delete accounts if its a online networking site?
Comment by A — June 22, 2009 @ 4:14 pm
My account was disabled. Probably I was working in too many tabs in one moment…
But I think it should not be my problem if facebook indicates me as spammer and I am not. Facebook should warn me, and he did not. Or he have to act in hours as google, where the latest response I ever get, was in 8 hours and in my language (Slovak).
Another problem is, that I created few groups to promote my website. Those groups have altogether at least 40.000 members and I am the only admin… I paid facebook to promote my groups hundreds of dollars and I saw that in few of these groups were done huge changes with new admins
If facebook won't give it all back, I will ask for compensation. Because I am not just a member to whom has facebook illimitable rights. I am customer, and I have the right to get what I paid, or get my money back!
I think it seriously.
Andrej Winter
PS: I did not break any facebook conditions.

When The Facebook team says We will not be able to reactivate your account for any reason. This decision is final.
Is there anyway they can turn their decision I would like to think so because it does not say its permanent.
Comment by John Wright — July 2, 2009 @ 5:48 am
I must say, I have had my eyes wide open, and with great regret. I created a group called PERFORMING SONGWRITERS (UNITED WORLDWIDE), made the colossal error of messaging too many people to invite them to my personal page (in an effort to actually reduce the group postings and give people the choice as to how much info they wanted to receive from me). I was disabled on June 24 after the group had grown to 1500 members in 15 days. Most of my topic posts went with my account, so that left my group gutted of 'content'. People have been trying to email and help, but have been getting the weirdest messages back saying that they aren't writing from their FB account email addresses – not true in every case – and FB can't divulge info – no one was asking them to; merely the request was to reactivate the account.
I am so sickened by this, but I'm also immersed in a business law course right now and have just been informed about the law of contracts and do understand that Facebook has an aim and the aim is a noble one – to reduce spam. It is the reason why I posted my group there in the first place. Because I love the networking capacity of FB. But errors do happen, people do make uninformed mistakes. Without a transparent policy it is hard to keep within the rules. I lived for 11 years in Saudi Arabia where I had to look over my shoulder at times for fear I was doing something that could land me in trouble. I'm sorry that in the free world, I'm discovering myself in this bind. It's almost felt like an entrapment of sorts – to be cut off from hundreds of very old friends just reconnected with from elementary school, and people who have known me through high school and university. A friend died this year and his Facebook account is a place where people still meet and talk. I can't access that. Another friend is battling cancer, and I can't reach the person who had been filling me in about that.
What's further distressing is the fact that the mainstream media appear not to be able or willing to shed more light on this problem. I have tried to communicate with the BBC and with serious online bloggers particularly those in the music business, and most simply ignore the request for airtime or help as well. I find that perplexing. But it's been explained to me by some of my group members that they are afraid themselves of being banned by Facebook.
I have read about one man who announced his decision to commit suicide to a Facebook applications programmer, and Facebook then responded pretty quickly. I wonder how many people engage in acts of distress due to the closure of their Facebook accounts…that FB does not know about? For an organization that cares about people, this is somehow skewed to me. Simply respond to queries, if you can, or post the information real people need online. And, yes, go after the hard core spammers.
A good friend of mine who worked at Warner Records said to me a few years ago when I was trying to decide the name of my new 4-year album projected recorded in Saudi Arabia, Canada, and India – but nevertheless a folk-pop thing with world music sprinkled throughout: "Don't underestimate your audiences." I went ahead with an Arabic title for the album, one that I knew western audiences would wonder about. The concept of not underestimating audience intelligence has not left me. I find that principle to be true, and wish it could be true for Facebook, too. Then again, we're the stupids who keep posting while ignoring generic warnings. Perhaps the warnings need to be explicit re. the numbers of clicks. That would have settled my enquiring mind.
My heart is really heavy as I continue to wait this out and hope for the best. It's been two weeks. It feels like two months. I've been reminded of a few things in these past few weeks: get the email addresses of people in your life. Get a life beyond Facebook. Pick up the phone. Get out. Focus on your dreams and realities. The cyber world isn't heaven.

My account was disabled for DELETING friends. More accurately, deleting pending friend requests. I've sent one email to disabled@facebook.com with an auto response a week ago, two more since then with no such responses.
I think it's unfair, I gave them my email address, userid, what I was doing at the time and still nothing. Granted I may have received a popup box warning, but there were a lot of requests, so by the time it came up, I was half shut eyed and clicking 'remove connection' 'confirm' without reading the box, until I got one saying I wasn't logged in.
While I believe the disabling was caused by me doing a repetitive action, I think it's taking way too long for them to get back to me, I'm sure it's a simple thing to change, one flag in a database which surely, they have some sort of admin page they can login, searhc by email/userid and change rather easily.
I did notice I had an email warning, but I wasn't reading my emails at the time because my sister and I were also conversing on my 'wall', so each time she sent a message, I got an email. I saw the outlook notification and just clicked on my wall, replied, then went back to removing requests.

My account was disabled. It’s hard to believe that they disable accounts so readily, but they do. Until it happens to you, you really think that the person had to do something “wrong” because it makes no sense for a company to do this. I got very non-specific warnings when I posted birthday greetings to friends’ walls several times. I did post Happy Birthday in all caps, and another friend indicated that she thought that might have been when she was warned. It sais something to the effect that I “might” be engaging in this long list of no-nos which included harassing others (I know we’re getting older, but happy birthday is hardly harassment), trying to sell something, chatting (huh?), and a few other things. I did not know what they meant. I still posted birthday greetings but with a sense of dread in my stomach, but didn’t get any more warnings of that sort after getting several within a few days. Then, one day I posted something to my own wall that was very positive, about some good news. I got another dire sounding warning. It looked different, but it listed that same sorts of things that I “might” be doing. I had to look at weird letters and put them in the box. I assumed it was making sure that it wasn’t spam or something, but I really didn’t know what the deal was. I had to do that a few more times when I posted comments, but weirdly, not when I was in big political debates or the like. Just weirdly, right after that positive posting I did to my own wall. Then, it stopped for a few days. I did my regular thing and also spent way too much time playing a game. I was commenting to a friend. I went to her page to leave her a message because I know that you somehow aren’t supposed to “chat” (although if it is a conversation between more than two people, it’s not like you can use the online chat function). When I tried to get to her page, I was thrown offline. I was told to log in again. I did so and was informed my account had been disabled. No reason. I have been devasted. It as turned my life upside down and really shaken me. I was using fb as a way to begin to come out of depression and sort of reenter the world. And, to be smacked down like that really did a number on me. I am deeply depressed and upset. I have friends who are in fear that their accounts will be disabled because they have gotten warnings, so they are staying off fb more than usual. This is not making them happy. I’m not sure how this benefits fb because that means the ads they post are not being seen. This seems to happen to more and more people. And, until it happens to you, you really think these other people HAD to have been “bad” and done something “wrong.” I know people who’ve had their accounts given back within a week or a month, just depends. One got hers back with a warning that if she ever did “it” again, she’d be permanently disabled. Problem is, she doesn’t know what “it” was . I have friends making sure we have each other’s info and other ways of communicating so we won’t lose each other.
I’ve contacted them daily and only got one reply that they had received what I’d sent.
This is agony. I can’t imagine that this can be good for their business, either, as people start limiting their time on fb so that they don’t lose it altogether. That means less time for ads to be seen.
FB really needs to realize that as this grows, it is damaging the company itself. People get to depend on fb and really rely on it and use it, but if they feel that it can suddenly “erase” them, they won’t use it.
This has been extremely painful for me. I have a certain mistrust and fear regarding fb now.
FB needs to fix this. They give out these dire warnings, saying you “might” be doing one of a long list of no-nos. But, if you know you aren’t, there is no redress.
I hope fb realizes they are making a problem for themselves. A group of my friends and I had an actual cyberstalker threatening to harm us, our children, our pets, and it took FB over a week to do much of anything. Yet, I’m given warnings for saying happy birthday to people.
However they have their system set, it’s not working. FB is the big thing right now, but if people get to where they are afraid to use it, afraid to make connections only to suddenly lose their friends, something else will come in to take FB’s place.
FB is abusive in how it deals with people in these situations. And, FB is losing trust and will eventually lose customers if they feel they cannot trust it. Right now, I have several friends trying to figure out why they get warnings, trying to connect a bit but not too much, etc. We all try to figure out what makes FB send out these warnings because it’s not for what it says. And, FB does not help at all. I am so disappointed in how they have handled this.
It seriously has disrupted my life and adversely impacted my health. I am back into a depression and beginning to pull back from relationships again. If a company can just turn a switch and erase me, I’m afraid to use it.
Laugh and downplay it all until it happens to you.

I am happy to find places where this is being discussed. There are a few and I am compiling them. My facebook account was disabled twice recently for no good reason. Interaction with the site got weird after I upgraded to the latest Firefox software on Windows. I started using the site with Internet Explorer, but occasionally I would click on a link from a FB notice and it opened by default in firefox. It took days to get re-activated the first time I was disabled. I had done nothing really … was checking what friends had posted because of the FB notification email. The first accusation was I was clicking too fast, but it had to do with the browser working funky with facebook website. Then I accidentally went to firefox again and was disabled again. This time they did not reactivate me or accuse me of clicking too fast, but suggested it could be a firefox add-on. They asked me to tell them hat I was using and sent them my private info in my opinion with a list of all the extensions and plug-ins installed in firefox. Then there was never another response. I tried every day since then (over a week ago). I am in on a class action suit if anything they do is actionable. Here are the emails I received. I believe no human reads or responds to disabled@facebook.com.

Hi Mark,
Thank you for providing this information. Facebook has limits in place to prevent users from running programs that automatically scan the site for certain content. Although this was not the case in your situation, viewing or refreshing pages at a rapid rate may cause your account to be disabled. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide more information about this system.
However, after reviewing your situation, your account has been reactivated. Please significantly slow down the rate at which you browse Facebook and refrain from violating any of Facebook's Terms of Use. You should also avoid using systems or products that automatically refresh Facebook pages. Further misuse of the site may result in your account being disabled again. Also I will add that I never received a warning or explanation from facebook. I searched about this extensively using google and found two phone numbers for facebook. They do reach the company but the automated message indicates Facebook provides no phone support. In actuality I do not believe they provide any human-based email support either. If this is the future of Internet companies, it is very, very disturbing. I think that this is much more troubling that some people might realize. I am glad that this blog is bringing it more in the light, but I think much more needs to be done to get facebook to act more responsibly and humanely. I read today that it is the fourth most visited site in the world after google, yahoo or microsoft. Unfortunately, when you see stuff like this you realize that they don't hold a candle to those companies yet in terms of how the treat users.

My account isn't quite disabled yet, but it may as well be. As of now I can't respond to any posts either at my own or friends pages. I can make status reports: my current status? MISERABLE. I never realized how 'dependent' I am on communicating with people through Facebook. It's forced me to go out side for a "life" but as far as I'm concerned, FB is also a part of my life and it's not right that they can try to control stuff like this. I wasn't doing anything wrong. It's very upsetting to be proclaimed guilty and not being allowed to prove your innocence simply because of some arbitrary 'rules' set up by faceless individuals.

If you disagree with Barack Obama, its best to stay away from Barack Obama 1,000,000 Strong. They are a bunch of babies that cry when anybody has a different opinion about Obama than theirs. Their group says that everyone is welcome, but their members do not make anyone feel that way. I only wish I had the time, money, and the know how to disable that group forever.
Administrators Ken Stokes and Odidiah Stokes are the biggest cry babies on the planet.
If Barack Obama shot his daughters dog in front of them, in the middle of Times Square, the people on that group would say that Obama was saving everyone from a beast.

Jann, I feel your pain as I have been going thru the exact same thing. FB was my lifeline, the only thing keeping me going, the only escape/coping mechanism I had. Then on friday 8/14, they disabled me after I sent 4 responsive messages to my friends. I had received 2 of those annoying pink slip warnings and heeded the warnings and stopped commenting. But it’s the same as you, I would write happy birthday on a few walls and then get the pink slip. How stupid is that? Earlier in the spring, I was unable to comment on things for about a week, which seems to be what is happening to Sabrina. AFter that, i got 2 pink slip warnings that popped up when I was commenting on things, but instead of continuing w/ my commenting, I just shut down for the night and figured that was all they wanted, for me to cut down on commenting. Now I can’t access my profile at all. I’ve paid $ for premium memberships on games, and I have over a thousand photos on my profile as well.
I am now on day 9 of my punishment and they refuse to respond to any of my heartfelt pleas for mercy and another chance. I’ve sent messages to any and every email address I can find. I go from being really angry to total despair. I don’t know what to do. Some people are having luck by threatening legal action. Others are getting their profiles back after 2 weeks, although one lucky girl got hers back after 3 days. Some people don’t get their profiles back at all. I fear that I am going to be in that category. My friends even started a petition drive and Group, demanding my reactivation….last time my hubby checked there were over 200 people who joined.
What’s the point of a social networking site if you are penalized for socializing? I was not spamming. I don’t believe any of us were. I am working with a guy named Rudy Arnauts, who is working on You Tube videos directed to Mark Z. addressing this issue. I’ve watched them and they are very eloquent. Rudy needs to hear from ALL OF US in this situation as he wants to use our stories in his videos. Jann, you especially need to contact him. Watch his videos and see what you think.

My Facebook account was disabled Saturday August, 21. I had received three pink slips over the past month or two and after each one I gave things a couple days to settle before I began to request friends again. This most recent warning came on Friday the 20th. I again stopped all friend requests. I posted a couple friend comments to real friends (school classmates) only to have my account disabled Saturday morning. I have contacted FB two or three times. Here is the exchange that took place between myself and someone at FB. The best part is in their last message that had the following section in it.
“It is especially prohibited when large groups of users who share similar physical characteristics are targeted for this type of behavior.” Talk about big brother watching you…

Hi,
I have read the Statement of Rights and Responsibilities and I regret all activities that were in violation of them. This will not happen again. I do apologize for my behavior and will not impose on anyone’s rights on Facebook again. I will use the site as it was intended and only communicate with friends and family. Please see my conduct as an error in judgement and reinstate my account. Having something like this happen to me is a first and very unusual and unlike me. I can assure Facebook that this type of behavior by me will never occur again.

Hi,
Facebook has limits in place to prevent behavior that other users may find annoying or abusive. These limits restrict the rate at which you can use certain features on the site. Unfortunately, we cannot provide you with the specific rates that have been deemed abusive.
Your account has been disabled because you exceeded Facebook’s limits on multiple occasions when sending friend requests, despite having been warned to slow down.
After further review of your account, we have determined that you violated our Statement of Rights and Responsibilities by misusing our site features to harass other users. We will not be able to reactivate your account for any reason. This decision is final.
Thanks for your understanding,
The Facebook Team

I appreciate your response and explaination. Although I do not agree with the “big brother” method of administration that Facebook has shifted towards since it began, I see no point in attempting to change your minds. I just would like to point out that people should be more aware of what Facebook deems an inappropriate number of requests/posts/messages. As far as your user community knows this is an arbitrary number. I admit that I can remember receiving three warnings and after each one I stopped the activity that was causing the warming. After the third warning, I stopped once again but continued to use my account for normal levels of activity. I am still confused as to why it took nearly twelve hours to pass by before the account was disabled. By that time I felt I had done nothing additional wrong and as long as I curtailed the activities that Facebook deemed inappropriate my account would remain active. I now find that to be false. I am not blaming Facebook in any way for what has happened. I just think that certain aspects of the TOS and Statememt of Rights and Responsibilities should be further defined and explained. Since the account will remain disabled, is there any assurance that the content of that account is secure and will remain unavailable to anyone? If I could have a responce to that question it would be greatly appreciated. I would hate to see my pictures of friends and family start to appear without my permission.
Sincerly,
Shane

Hi Shane,
Your account was disabled because you exceeded Facebook’s limits on multiple occasions, despite having been warned to slow down. Upon further review of your site activity, we have determined that you were in violation of our Statement of Rights and Responsibilities.
One of Facebook’s main priorities is the comfort and safety of our users. Accordingly, Facebook does not endorse unsolicited contact with strangers as it may be considered annoying or abusive. It is especially prohibited when large groups of users who share similar physical characteristics are targeted for this type of behavior.
Unfortunately, your account has been permanently disabled. We will not be able to reactivate it for any reason, nor will we provide further explanation of your violation or the systems we have in place. This decision is absolutely final.
Thanks for your understanding,

SO ya….they disabled my account permanently because my account was hacked when I wrote on someone’s status which logged me off and asked me to log in again. Apparently whoever did whatever did some spam and i got disabled. They told me they won’t reactivate it and it is ‘final decision’ so I said fine….so I made a new account. They then disabled that one too saying it’s because i had multiple accounts….but they disabled my first one so I had no accounts when I made the new one….yet they are stubborn and do not have the ability to read English …facebook customer service IS NOT smarter than a 5th grader.
Hi ***
It is against Facebook’s Statement of Rights and Responsibilities to maintain multiple accounts. We will not be able to reactivate this account for any reason. This decision is final.
Thank you for your understanding,

I just received a warning letter from Facebook indicating that your account has been disabled because of I poked someone else too much and added an unwanted person to ignore me a friend request and did not block me for any reasons. I currently have 762 friends on my Facebook account under ramonyu@hotmail.com that is all I have. Some of my unknown friend removed me as a friend but I added them back and ignore me but some of them blocking me because of me as an unknown person. I emailed to disabled@facebook.com to get my explanation of Facebook that I violated the Terms of Statements accidentally by adding an unknown friend and ignored me without blocking and should not be readding them again. I should send someone else a message why are not you adding me as a friend on Facebook. If someone accepted me as a friend, they confirm me safely. I am trying to reactivate my Facebook by having them to get back to me. This will never happen again and will not act out of control too fast inside the Facebook. I am so sorry, this will never happen again and please reactivate my account. I will be good from now on.
Thank You

My account was disabled at like 2am on Saturday morning. What happened was that idiot little sister of a friend of mine from high school sent a message to her entire 400+ friends list about this creepy pyramid scheme she works for. Anyone who responded to the message got their accounts disabled. So, instead of Facebook trying to find a way to remove the message or help us, they chose to disable the accounts of 150-200 people. Of course they did not seek me out – some douchebag on the recipient list obviously reported me as being a spammer. But what do you do when you are basically stuck on an island with 400 people who won’t shut up? You talk about what you’re going to be for halloween, or you turn off the function that allows you to receive email alerts until the problem goes away.
But having read a few of the stories from other users, I don’t feel positive about getting my account back, even though I was put into that situation against my will. I’m really pretty desperate, there are a lot of contacts that I will literally never be able to find again, and I will lose touch with certain people possibly forever if I am no longer allowed on the site. I don’t think it’s fair for them to exercise so much control over someone’s life so arbitrarily.

Are you really not allowed to open a new account, even under a different email address?
Comment by Catherine — November 1, 2009 @ 7:33 pm
Got mine disabled 5 days ago. No warning, nothing! Totally unfair. I’ve sent out emails to countless email addresses I could find. But only got the auto-response twice. I am not even ready to start again. My Job requires facebook and without my account I am screwed pretty much. I am still playing the waiting game but slowly losing my cool.

The above was the second email received from them. No reason was given at all for the disabling of the account. Is this legal?? Marissa is not a real person but a bot, this is clear. Has anyone got their accounts back after getting this above pasted email??
If this is the attitude this company has towards its users, then this company should be sued. There is every possibility that the court will award millions of dollars as damages to the complainants. Let us all unite and sue the last dollar of this fascist, Mark Zuckerberg. By damaging the lives of FB users like this, Mark Zuckerberg is sure to rot in hell. Facebook is acquiring a lot of bad Karma for itself by being so cruel to its users without any valid reason……it will have to pay for it.
Comment by Superstar — November 25, 2009 @ 8:06 pm
Hey, has censorship started on this blog too? Is this blog being run by Mark Zuckerberg or his cronies? I had asked everyone whose account has been disabled by FB without even providing any valid reason or warning to unite and file a lawsuit against this company and it's owner. There is every possibility that the aggrieved users whose accounts have been so disabled will be awarded millions of dollars in damages by the court. I'm going to sue him if my account is not restored immediately.

I think all the people who were unjustly disabled from Fbook should come together to sue the company. I consulted a lawyer and he told me that facebook might have to pay a big sum to all the disabled member whom they removed without giving any good reason.

I've currently been investigating the cause Facebook has in terminating accounts and I find that their policies may be found unconstitutional. There is preliminarily 3 aspects of the constitution I've already found that will be investigated. I am consulting legal advise on the matter personally. If you have found that your account was disabled unjustly, email me at fpb7488@yahoo.com and tell me about your case. If there was a case I would be making it a class action lawsuit and would include anyone in it that was wrongfully shut down by Facebook.
All that I ask is you be honest about your claim, if you were shut down for a good reason, then don't make it out to be totally unjust. We would be looking for individuals who truly were shut down without just cause or have a extremely valid argument that they were wrongfully shut down. Thanks!

facebook need people to get together and take those fucking bastards to court and close the fucking site down via lawyers and judges, then see them shit themselves
they shut u down with no waring and get away with it!!
they dont give a fuck about u or me only themselves
by law they should be made to give u a reason and give u time to appeal!!
that would cost those fucking bastards money!!
get togther and close that site down
one day it will happen for sure

My account was disabled because the friends I was adding were not "real world contacts". I was not spamming but adding folks who signed up for a game and left their email requesting more members become friends. It should therefore not being annoying to contact them. There are several very undesirable people using face book to spread hate and abuse and they are reported and nothing is done about them because this takes place on 3rd party applications. Please reconsider your policies on disabling accounts, give clear limits, and please provide a reasoned and just appeal process.

FACEBOOKS DISABLING PRACTICES-I HAVE BUSTED THEM-JUST NEED A LAWYER WHO WANTS THIS-I HAVE THE PROOF!
If you try to call their office in California-recording says they don't currently provide any phone support. It appears they don't provide support AT ALL. I have got this all figured out:
They don't care about us, the Facebook Users. When you disable a thousand accounts in a night, thousands of people sign up under new accounts. Some accounts are truly disabled, some are just temporarily blocked. Never the less, Facebook has created such an addiction, people will be quick to create a new account to get back on. Facebook knows this. In fact, a lot of “users” on Facebook don’t even exist. They are old accounts or duplicates of people who have been disabled. The mass banning began back in 2008 when Facebook was hitting a bad financial state. When someone is disabled, the account isn’t “gone”. It shows up as “Facebook User”. Why is that. If they are going to disable me from getting on MY ACCOUNT, shouldn’t the account be gone period. Why is that? They keep them around to inflate their number of “USERS” so they can pull the wool over their shareholders eyes and create a growth in the company that truthfully isn’t there. Again, if they delete an account-then it should be gone. I CAN PROVE ITS NOT! It still exist as a “Facebook User” account, yet I can’t access it. Some shady stuff going on at Facebook.com.
So it a nutshell, what I am saying, is Facebook is mass disabling accounts, some who have spent money on games, because they know people are addicted and will just create another account, yet their original accounts are NEVER REALLY purged. They still exist, they just can’t get access to them. That, in turn inflates the number of users that Facebook appears to have, which in effect is defrauding their shareholders. I think if an account is disabled, it should be purged from their site. Just how many users do they really have?
Again, if you ever want to talk. Call me. I have proof.

My account was disabled because I added too many friends. In fact I was merely adding friends who requested for friends to play mafia wars and pet society. I was also adding those friends that were suggested by friends. This is so unfair!!! Facebook should not classify themself as a "Social Networking" site! This is ABSURD!!!!

My facebook was disabled yesterday without warning as well. I haven't posted anything for at least a week, let alone anything questionable, and have only added 1 friend in the past week. Haven't posted to anyone else's wall either for a few days. I only have 110 freinds, so I haven't exceeded the number of friends they allow. I don't use any of the applications anymore because they seem to slow my computer. I have absolutely no idea why I was disabled, unless I got hacked, but none of my friends have said they saw anything odd from me. I've sent a message to facebook, but if I don't get a response, or they don't enable my account, I'm on board with the class action law suit.

It is amazing how many millions are so oblivious to the rogue company Facebook. FB profits from your information, YOU are the product not the customer. They allow nearly countless fake accounts, impostors and violent groups. Their customer service team must be made up of sadists, those who love to inflict harm on others. FB sees itself above the law, above ethical conduct.
Don't give FB the satisfaction of a grovel, make them face the gavel!

I have been a member of Face book for the past two years and was totally happy with the service offered & suddenly it all changed as my account was disabled two week ago, i tried contacting them but only was told to send a document which would help them identify that i was "Genuine", well hell with FB, from when did FB become a government entity which needed test to prove that you are the person proposed to be , FB has no commitment nor the Courtesy of respecting its members who have been humble to their cause & in turn FB i believe should have been a lot more responsible in informing their members before the disabling was scheduled (for members who were genuine).. They have forgotten the golden rule which made them the best and so popular in their trade & also the members who helped them make Profits. Neglecting their members interests and treating them as S—T will only result in FB loosing their market share

I was away visiting a friend when in the midst of sending a message on a small private FB group I was signed out of my account. Upon attempt to sign back in I got the message that my facebook account was disabled. Harsh enough that in my reality I am physically disabled but to have my account taken away when it is almost the only way I communicate with family and friends. Adding injury to insult I was also extremely ill at the time of my account being taken away. Being an avid APP user of paid for games that I invested time, money, and energy. I immedietly contacted Facebook and continued to do so with no response whatsoever except for two automated messages. Id receieved no warning and no reason. It has now been 31 days since my account was disabled on April 19th. Is there any reason to believe I will ever get it back and is there anything I can do regarding the Games and what I have invested in them. This all feels like banging my head against a brick wall. As much as I didnt want anything to do with Facebook it became my tool for communication as I am also a person with Aspergers and FB was a tool to deal with these limitations. All 35 people on my list were either Family, close friends, and really good people I met through games and became friends with. I can find no legitimate reason for facebook to disable my account. But by disabling my account it literally disabled me further. I am at a loss as to what to do besides perhaps resign myself to the fact that I wont have FB or friends.
Comment by Christine — May 20, 2010 @ 10:40 am
Yes.I had my account disabled for sending too many messages.
I was said my account wont be re-enabled.
What worries me is that facebook keeps my pictures and data althought I dont have access to my account!
For security reasons they said!
All my friends and pictures where there..and it is not
right to be held as hostage.
Since I no longer have access I would have wanted ALL my personal details would be erased from the site.

Hello Customer Support Team,
First of All, I would like to thank you in advance for your help and support
My problem is that my Face Book account was disabled since (24.may.2010) and I would like to ask you for re-activating it again
The rules and regulations of the Face Book which determine the use of certain features was not very clear to me but after taking a look on it in the Help Center – Spam section, I found out why my account was disabled and I assure you that the cause of blocking my account, which is the incorrect use of the messages feature according to your regulations, was not by any way out of evil will of me and was totally by accident
I will really appreciate if my account could be re- activated again promising you that I will avoid the incorrect use of the Face book features in the future
My Face Book Account Info:

Hi,
Your account was disabled because your behavior on the site was identified as harassing or threatening to other people on Facebook. Prohibited behavior includes, but is not limited to:
• Sending friend requests to people you don't know
• Regularly contacting strangers through unsolicited Inbox messages
• Soliciting others for dating or business purposes
After reviewing your situation, we have determined that your behavior violated Facebook's Statement of Rights and Responsibilities. You will no longer be able to use Facebook. This decision is final and cannot be appealed.
Please note that for technical and security reasons, we will not provide you with any further details about this decision.
Thanks,
The Facebook Team

A group of cyber bullies on facebook ganged up and reported my account as inauthentic. My account was automatically disabled and facebook sent me an email saying if it was a mistake to send them a copy of a government issued ID, which I have sent.
This happened on July 1 and I am still waiting. I am shocked and saddened to read so many stories of people losing their account for doing simple activities on the site like sending emails and accepting friends.
FB must receive 1000's of emails a day. I wonder if any of them get personal attention. I had thought my email to them would stand out since it has an attachment (a scanned image of my passport).

Your account has been temporarily suspended
Suspicious activity has been detected on your Facebook account and it has been temporarily suspended as a security precaution. It is likely that your account was compromised as a result of entering your password on a website designed to look like Facebook. This type of attack is known as phishing.
I have tried to follow their instructions, but the code was never sent to my email address.
I want my account back, if not rather they just terminate it.
Comment by Carol — July 28, 2010 @ 2:08 am
I myself do not know what is phishing?

I just received this message from Facebook earlier this afternoon. Here is the update:
Hi,
Facebook has policies to stop behavior that other users may find annoying or abusive. Facebook’s security systems determined that you were repeatedly using the same feature or engaging in the same behaviors in a short period of time. Because you continued this behavior after receiving multiple warnings, your account was disabled. Facebook cannot provide any specifics on the rate limits that are enforced.
Your account will remain disabled while your case is pending. Unfortunately, we do not have a specific date for when a final decision will be made regarding your account.
For more information, we encourage you to view the following pages:
• Warnings section of the Help Center: http://www.facebook.com/help/?topic=warnings
• Facebook's Statement of Rights and Responsibilities: http://www.facebook.com/terms.php
Thanks,
The Facebook Team

Subject: Case Of Missing Facebook Account
Hello Facebook Team,
Before I say anything, allow me to clarify the e-mail address I used for logging on to my Facebook account. It is manrelaxn@hotmail.com. It also has been my e-mail address for my old Hotmail account for nine years dating back to May 2001.
I would like to present the following information for my old Hotmail account.
Here are the following:
a.) Name: Fidel Raymund Cabral
b.) Date of Birth: January 22, 1977
c.) Country: United States Of America
d.) Zipcode: 33351
e.) My alternate e-mail address: mbrl28@yahoo.com
f.) My IP Address: 99.72.63.115
Now I am writing in response to the message you sent me about my facebook account. It was disabled on March 15, 2010. Before I get into it, allow me to share how I got hooked into facebook in the first place.
I heard about it from my friends who got hooked into it. So I used my e-mail address manrelaxn@hotmail.com to register on facebook on February 20, 2008.
I accumulated the list of contacts found on facebook over the past two years. Here is the list:
Aimee Aranguren – arangurenam@gmail.com
Amir Shahsavari – ashahsav@nova.com and catchamir@hotmail.com
Carol Nigro – cnigro@psy.miami.edu
Eric Vogel – ericjv41@gmail.com
Erika Jordan – ecj858@yahoo.com
Gabi Abratt – gabi@nsu@nova.edu and gabi@nova.edu
Jennifer Labelle – jenni.labelle@gmail.com
Jessica Zerbo – jessz@aol.com and zerbo@nova.edu
Joshua Thomas – tjoshua@nova.edu
Julie Makogon – julesm614@aol.com
Now let me get into the details on why my facebook account was deleted. It was deleted onMarch 15, 2010 because I added too many friends, posted too many videos and statements on the wall, and sent too many messages on the inbox despite the many warnings made. I did not mean to harass or abuse anyone.
I have violated Facebook Statements & Responsibilities. I am not very proud of what I have done.
I would like you to reconsider the decision of refusal to reactivate my account because I am being very honest in giving you sincere apologies for violating Facebook Statement Of Rights & Responsibilities and I have high hopes that I will not repeat the same mistakes that I made on the 15th of March, 2010. Let me assure you what I did was no excuse and I did not mean to cause harassment and abuse to others upon using Facebook.
Please do reconsider the denial. I hope you give me another chance to use Facebook again. I hope this situation serves me as a wake-up call to never take things forgranted. I hope you find it in your heart to believe me im what I can really do to make Facebook comfortable and safe for other users who enjoy a lot of benefits like I do.
Thank you,
Fidel

My account was disabled last night with no warning or explanation. I’ve emailed Facebook several times now and have heard nothing. I’m still hopeful that my account will be restored since I did nothing wrong.. no really, I did nothing wrong… but it does seems a strange policy to disable people for using the platform for what it was meant for… connecting with people. In my case, connecting with about 3100 people over the course of several months? Makes no sense.so please to turn on again my facebook, because i can't find again my family and my friends

My account has been disabled for a long time now, I still don't know the reason why, because facebook admins lack brain substances to put the reason of the Ban when disabling somebody's account… I have a guess though, I put my favorite anime character's name instead of mine, but I had registered with my real name before then… They should look again at the way they treat customers, really not helpful at all, Even if you contact them, (because they say Contact teh admins if you don't know why u were banned), they don't even respond, I contacted them 3 times, it's been like a year now…I lost so many contacts I can't find anymore now.

I got my account disabled last week, I didn't do anything wrong, I didn't violate Facebook terms in any way possible. I even had my account deactivated when I got disabled, tried to login again to find it disabled. I'm sending them emails since a week and got NO single reply.

If possible, please could you review the action you have taken again, as I do not wish a mistake I have made to result in him losing contact with the people in his life. He is a really good person and does not deserve this.
Apologies again for any inconvenience caused by my actions.
Kindest regards,
Priya"
I have never received a warning before and both issues on my account happened on the same day. Pure bad luck. You can see a genuine mistake such as Priya’s who did not mean to report me and the only reason I consistently sent loads of friends request for those 30 seconds as I thought there was an issue with me not being able to add people, as I do use Facebook as the social network it is meant to be.
Comment by Gagz — October 20, 2010 @ 8:59 am
This is the very first time I made a mistake and after this incident I decided to reread the Terms and Conditions as it is something I have not read for a long time. I appreciate why they are there and they are for the protection of all users including me. I would like to take this opportunity to reassure you I have understood the Terms and Conditions and can see how my actions and Priya’s actions were perceived as inappropriate. It has taught me a valuable lesson.
I am both sad and disappointed at this, and apologise if I’d violated your web page.. I have never behaved inappropriately to anybody on Facebook as this is not my character and I have never used Facebook for dating purposes, however do apologise if it has come across like this.
Comment by Gagz — October 20, 2010 @ 9:00 am
Facebook is a great treasure I am going to lose. It will be a real disaster for me, if you won’t enable my account again. There are so many friends on my list there whom I have no other form of contact with, family abroad, people I have met on holiday who I have kept close to me, so many photos of me and my friends which have not been backed up whom I have sentimental values with.
I would ask you please to reconsider your decision and re-enable my account. Facebook is a huge part of my life and regret not being able to be part of the network. I will ensure not to do this action again or indeed anything else that would jeopardize my account.
Thank you for taking the time to read and reconsider my appeal. I look forward to hearing from you.
Please, if there is any …any possibility to enable my account back.
We all deserve a second chance. Please Please
Respectfully Yours

Hi. My account was disabled without any warning in last January. I can't get anything else than automatic responses from them. They say that I violated their statement by harassing other users when I have harassed nobody. This makes me sick especially because my explanation is good, solid and honest. I didn't do what they accuse me for and I want them to listen what I try to say.
Comment by Tig — November 16, 2010 @ 3:45 am
My facebook page was disabled because they said it was an "Inauthentic account", I was then asked to send them a copy of my identification to verify that i am who i say i am. Has anyone experienced this before? this is crazy right?! I've had my account for over 3 years and now all of a sudden they're questioning my identity!!!!!! UGH!!!!! I'm very upset!!
Comment by Tamara Mobley — November 16, 2010 @ 6:16 am
Why I only get automatic responses? Why I can't explain what happened? It's unfair because I have not done that what they accused that I did.

I have been banned from uploading videos. The only way that I found that out is when I tried to upload another video. A notice displayed that said I was banned. I received no warning. What makes me even more upset is that I don't know what I did to violate their terms of agreement.

Well My Account was Deleted & I recreated A New one , A few days went by & that account got Disabled too mind you I do not & never have done anything on FB or to anyone on FB & have always used my real Name I have had at least 4 accounts Disabled within 2-3 weeks of setting them up after my last was Disabled I've never went back & my next step is to Just go up to The Facebook Head Office in CA since i'll be moving to CA soon & talk with someone upon my Account , Other wise I will never Join FB again & If They tell me that they can't do anything I will not be using anything on FB & i will tell Family & friends to stop using FB too .
I think If everyone who's been Disabled to start Telling Friends & Family to stop using FB , & they continue to do this to people They'll start loosing Members .
Plus I'm not getting to why? We have to Provide Identification to get Our Disabled Accounts Reactivated when its A Damn Free Social Network They didn't need Our ID's , Passports & crap when we Join so Why ? do they suddenly need Our Personal Information Just to Reactivate our Accounts They should Provide A Area on FB for Disabled Users to Go & Enter their Names as it is in Their Accounts & Woaaaalaaaaaa your Back online Thats what it Should be , Plus What is happening to Those Who are sending Personal Identification to them & Never get their Accounts back What are they doing with Those peoples Information & why isn't there Service Provided on FB for these types of Issues .
My Best advice to anyone is If you live in CA , Get the Address to Facebooks Headquarter Offices in CA & pay them A Visit in Person & Talk with someone , BUT I WOULD NEVER GIVE OUT MY PERSONAL INFO .
especially since they didn't need it when we join their FREE network ……….LOL

my profile just got deleted. i wanted to delete it so i broke the rules on purpose. but now I kind of wish I could get the profile back and the facebook user troubleshooting is a joke, some companies outsource to india. facebook outsources to yourself or random user forums. I actually called the company phone number but typically they aren't interested in users just advertising stuff. there is practically no email contacts, it makes me wonder how many people actually work for this company and how automated it is. for as much as equity firms are investing at least they could have some sort of real human contact.
but anyways after getting deleted there really isn't much for me to do. All the links I posted and user data from the app's I used is gone. I don't care so much about the apps but I'm actually curious about the links that I posted, some youtube videos I posted I may not have added to my favorites.

Facebook has recently permanently disabled my account with no specifics as to why besides "violating terms of Service" I had 32 credits on the account and there was a picture of me holding a beltbuckle which looks like brass knuckles. I even put a disclaimer in the caption: " I , in no way, am promoting any type of violence." I believe that facebook is discriminated other though based on political association with the group Anonymous since I also had many anonymous related pictures in my albums. They are purging their users and there is nothing we can do about it.

After I accidentally failed to log out of a university computer properly somebody I don't even know decided to change my profile picture to a pornographic image of a male (I am female) as well as change my status to inform my boyfriend he was "dumpt". After the post was flagged I was issued an email warning, after which my account was disabled within five minutes. Surely facebook are aware of the occurrence of "frape"? In four years using facebook I have never once posted an image that could even be considered suggestive – and I would die before making such an awful spelling mistake. Surely there should be parameters in place to stop administrators from so quickly disabling the accounts of people who are essentially the victims of internet fraud? Not only is the loss of my facebook upsetting and inconvenient, I am worried that I have lost four years of comments, friendships and photographs because of something that I didn't even do.

facebook are idiots and they are going underground within the next few months. Fucckerberg can count his imaginary millions then sitting on the street. Disabled crooks disabling people's accounts for no reason. If you have a disagreement with someone – they and their friends can gang up on you and falsely report you. Even better for the vengeful people if you have a large group you can use to pick on an innocent person and falsely report them for anything. Once facebook receives a complaint they just go ahead and will cancel your account. They do not care if the people reporting also misbehaved. Fair would be if both sides were penalized.

Fuck facebook. Facebook is a joke as they seem to get carried away with disabling peoples accounts for no "Major" reason. My account was disabled just from me playing mafia wars and becoming a top mafia player. If that is the fucken case then fuck facebook, Mafia wars is not my life and never will be. I have total better shit to do then to collect items and attack / declare war with other members. If facebook wants to be that unfair with their facebook users then fuck the "IDIOTS" associated facebook,

I'm an IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) with a website (breastfeedingbasics.com). It gets over 2,000,000 page views each year. My webmaster told me that I needed a 'Facebook presence" because every other web business has one (although my site is educational and doesn't sell anything, so this isn't about money). I started a Breastfeeding Basics FB page, and had over 1,000 likes within a couple of months. In 4 months, FB has disabled my account twice, and deleted it the last time. I lost my personal account with photo albums of my 6 kids, my animal rescue page, and all the hard work I did for my BFB page. The first time, I was told by FB that they had taken down a pic they deemed offensive and warned me not to do it again. They then disabled it anyway. I did all the right things, emailed all the 'right' people, explained the situation, groveled and begged, and never got any response to any of my emails.
The second time, they send me an "offensive" picture, and warned me that they might disable my acct. if I didn't delete it immediately. I did, and they disabled my account again anyway, The picture was of a mother sitting in a rocker nursing her baby. NO BREAST OR NIPPLE showed at all. Nothing offensive there unless you just didn't like the idea of a mother breastfeeding.
The third time, the acct was deleted (not disabled, just there one minute and gone the next with no warning, and no explanation.
The controversy about FB deleting accounts with pix of nursing mothers has been going on for years (see Facebook's War on Nipples http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,18...
, but this is getting ridiculous. FB is so hypocritical in their TOS policies. They allow graphic nudity in their apps, and extremely suggestive and sexual material all over FB – look up "Big Boobs" and see what comes up.
Aside from the fact that FB is deleting pic of moms nursing that show NO nipple, they are totally hypocritical in the way they enforce their TOS. It's random, it's arbitrary, and it's unfair. I don't even want to be on FB, but felt that I had too, and was doing some good things I wasn't playing Farmville or posting pix of drunk kids partying – I was utilizing the social network to educate nursing moms and rescue homeless animals.
In case you're wondering if the pix on my site really were sexual and inappropriate, here are 3 reasons I know that's not true; 1) the pix did not show nudity or even nipple. Several of the banned pix were 15th century paintings of the Madonna and child nursing. I kid you not. 2) If FB did even a half assed job of enforcing its TOS, it would be shutting down some of the nasty porn pages that any kid can access; and 3) every single time they disabled or deleted my account, it was within HOURS of posting comments regarding FB's censorship policies re pix of nursing moms.
Coincidence? What do you think?
I need to be on FB because of my website. I'm not just on there for fun, but with 800 million users, it's such a part of daily life that it's become almost a must have if you're going to do anything on the net.
BTW, all the big to do FB makes about child pornography and protecting innocent children from 'innapropriate sexual content' is total BS. If they cared about what kids saw, they'd be censoring the nasty sex sites all over FB and not targeting sites that show pix of moms discreetly nursing their babies.
I'm mad as hell but since FB has no customer service, and apparently thinks they are God, I don't have any idea what to do next. I'm here to vent and give some advice: Back up your personal profile page ASAP. You can't back up your other pages, but have as many admins as you can.
Always remember…big brother is watching, and there's not a damn thing you can do about it.
