Facebook users are currently reporting that they’ve been receiving an email that states “Facebook Password Reset Confirmation” but as usual, this email is completely fake. In fact, it’s not only fake but it also contains a virus. Facebook is currently letting users know that the email
is fake but they need help in spreading the word, so be sure to let your friends know!
The text of the message is as follows:
Dear user of facebook,
Because of the measures taken to provide safety to our clients, your password has been changed. You can find your new password in the attached document.
Thanks,
Your Facebook.
The message is spoofed and shows up as coming from “Facebook Support” at help@facebook.com, although that’s really not the source. Downloading the attachment to your computer could do serious damage and it could also result in a compromised Facebook account. If you have downloaded the application you should install a virus scanner and also change your Facebook password.
If your account still ends up getting hacked, you should reclaim your account by following the directions on this help page. Also be sure to let your friends know about the email scam so they don’t become victims as well.

This is an old method used for many types of account, not only facebook.
But it's good you pointed it out, too many people don't know how to protect themselves online.

Hi,
My son got a similar message but it was from networks@facebook.com. Thankfully we are both suspicious and sceptical and have not opened the attachments.
Comment by Margi — March 18, 2010 @ 11:21 pm
I have received 2 of these in the last few days (although I have not downloaded the application).
On my yahoo mail page they arrive in the spam folder so I probably wouldn't see them at all but popped to my local apple mail application they show up in the 'in box'. (This may stop as I've marked them as junk.)
What I don't understand is how they reach me at all because only the first 3 letters and the '@yahoo.co.uk' part of the email address is correct.
If I try to send something with even one tiny mistake in the address I get a failure notice so how come this stuff gets to me.

This is so bad that is was on the Channel 7 wxyz Detroit, Michigan TV news. Like this artical says…"it’s not only fake but it also contains a virus"
The McAfee Security blog has a warning up that the email is a scam. If you open the attachment, you'll open yourself up to a host of problems. This includes giving the scammer access to all of the usernames and passwords in your computer, not just your Facebook log-in and password.
This Scam Email steals everything on your computer..passwords, bank info, you name it.

Comment by roland — March 26, 2010 @ 6:08 am
roland,
you are officially an idiot or a troll. posting an email address as you did is a great way to have the spambots add that account to every spam list in the universe. either you didn't know that, or you are attempting to ruin christopherjohnnavill** email account.
to others, there is no way facebook or any other site can alert you about every scam that comes out. educate yourselves.

My email quarantine program at work just notified me of a quarantined message from "networks@facebook.com" that had a subject line of "Facebook Password Reset Confirmation! Support Message." It was received on 4/26/2010 at 4:54 pm MST.
I have no Facebook Account/Page at this time nor have I ever in the past. This is obviously fraudulent. I though you all should know and please, pass the word on.
