Over the past few weeks a new trends has become increasingly popular within Facebook Pages: sexual solicitations through the use of sexually suggestive user-generated images. A group of spammers has effectively exploited a weakness in Facebook’s spam prevention: Page fan images. Many of the top Facebook Pages have now become inundated with sexual images that prompt users to date the girl in the photo by clicking a link. Unfortunately for the unsuspecting guys who click the link, there’s no chance of them getting the girl!
While the volume of images has varied over the past few weeks, it’s clear that the images are still widespread among top Pages including Michael Jackson’s, the most popular page on all of Facebook. Facebook appears to be blocking some of the links, but ultimately they all end up at adult online dating sites. The end result is that some guys end up falling for the scam and register for the site. While you can blame the guys for being ignorant for doing so, the adult images showing up on top Pages are a significant problem for Facebook.
The result is that many large Pages have shut off the ability for users to submit images, however plenty of Pages continue to be targeted. In addition to Michael Jackson’s Page, Lil Wayne, Britney Spears, and many others have become targets. While most the readers of this site know not to fall for the scam, it’s still a growing problem. Fortunately, Facebook has clamped down on many of the people who’ve uploaded the images, but there are still plenty that remain, as illustrated below.
Have you seen any other pages spammed with this new form of Facebook Page porn?

I saw a one of these girls posted on the official Rolls Royce page. I made a comment about it on my FB business page around how damaging this content can be for brand association. Rolls Royce left the posting up for quite a long time and showed that no one was monitoring the content. Facebook reacted by deleting my comments and blocking me from accessing the Rolls Royce page.

Mike, this is because FB has no personal compassion, and sees people like you as a threat.. Incidentally, FB themselves use these scams themselves for targeting, baiting and such like. FB is nothing but one of the worlds largest hypocrites. If this message gets deleted, then that's enough proof.

Old news. And what's even more pathetic is the people who add these fake spambot profiles as friends, not realizing they're email harvesters and skimming your wall posts and photos. Idiots.

I've seen a number of university fan pages restrict posts to text only because of the garbage filth and idiots who have taken over FB since it stopped being for legitimately verified holders of .edu email addresses. This is what you get, opening the floodgates to computer generated accounts and spam. Bye FB. – I don't even bother reporting those accounts as fake anymore. I just do go there, use a better site restricted to real people.

Hi Nick,
Everyday we are seeing clients who are plagued by spam on their Walls. Fortunately we have tools to combat it and make it simple for marketers to keep their Walls open for conversation. I highly recommend anyone with a spam problem to look into moderation tools like the Vitrue Publisher.
Thanks,

Hi
I agree with Mike from Vitrue. Brands can't leave their Facebook Pages unmonitored, and if they don't have the inhouse resource then outsourcing to a specialist moderation company (such as eModeration, ahem) could be the answer. Moderation tools make the process much, much more efficient. As well as Virue's good tool, check out Conversocial from The iPlatform.
Thanks

The reason why these douche spammers get away with this is because of….. guess who…THE PAGE ADMINS.
There is ZERO policing by these incompetents
The work ethic of the Facebook admins of these large groups is ridiculous.
How frigging' hard is it to go to your settings (wall) and unclick, "Fan can post links'.
They throw a black eye on the game, lame.

I thought Facebook would add a function for fan page admins to monitor page activity at some point, but after waiting for four months (and seeing threads that date back to over a year)….I decided it would be worth investing the time and money into creating my own monitoring system for my page – "The Fan Page Monitor": http://www.weteachfacebook.com/fanpagemonitor/
I've decided to share the Fan Page Monitor with other admins that are interested in receiving reliable email updates when someone posts or leaves a comment on their page.
**We offer a free 7 day trial, so you can see for yourself, if the Fan Page Monitor is worth the monthly subscription fee for your business to get reliable notifications sent to your inbox when a fan makes a comment on your page.

Comments about Fan Pages having no ADMINS is right on the money. Be smart, pay someone not just to monitor your page, but create a proper messaging strategy that accomplishes measureable strategic goals.
It is what we do for our clients every day. It is not as easy as it sounds, and no, you can't buy a piece of software to do this for you.

not a surprise at all.. nor is it anything new.. there's an adult dating site by the name of BENAUGHTY.COM which is explicitly and crudely adult in it's nature and in the intents of 99% of the people that are on it (I've been one of them for a while so I know what I'm talking about), which has latched onto facebook for the last year or two,and is now sharing info back and forth with it… without the least bit of control… so kids of 13 can now access the contents of that dating site through it's facebook page/forum/likes and through the posts on the dating site that somehow end up being "liked" on facebook.
it's a sore state of affairs that people were trying to protest against, back on benaughty.com, and on facebook itself…but apparently everybody is making money over it, so it's going to stay just the way it is..
I have nothing to be ashamed of nor did I ever post rude images of myself on that other website..but I did participate actively on the forum where issues of sexual nature were debated…whilst I am an outspoken man, I would not like my little nephew and my youngest brother and sister who are still underage, find either my posts or someone else's posts on, say, bdsm or porn ON FACEBOOK because someone on BENAUGHTY decided to "like" what I or someone else wrote.
then of course there's the issue that BENAUGHTY promises anonimity and discretion but keeps the right to using your images for promotion of their adult website..if they can access your facebook just about any image might end up promoting "wanna hook up with hot women in your area?" kind of adverts.
also, what one does in one's free time should be their concern only, but if facebook and adult sites start partnering up, plenty of companies are going to end up snooping both facebook and the other site to check on their employees' behaviour…and not only in working hours. if they should find that one of their employees, during his afternoons at home, enjoys taking erotic pictures, or meeting up with random women or men… or has a particular fetish or kink… they might just use it against them on the job, or as reason to fire them.. which would be profoundly unjust and only possible because facebook doesn't check on the companies it partners up with and THEIR personal info policy.
when some of us members of Benaughty tried to bring this to the attention of Facebook officials, nothing was ultimately done about it.
