Great news today for Facebook page administrators—NutshellMail, a service that allows users to track updates from several social networking sites through an email aggregate, has added an automated newsletter feature that will assist administrators in keeping fans up to date on the latest fan page updates.
NutShellMail’s web site claims that creating and adding an email newsletter to your page can be completed in under a minute. After adding the application to a fan page, the administrator can simply add an additional tab (“Email Newsletter”) and start promoting away. The application’s interface is basic enough for almost any fan page administrator to implement the service.
There’s little doubt that NutshellMail’s newest feature will increase the potential for fan engagement. Casual Facebook users may not visit all of their pages everyday or keep track of the latest updates, so aggregates of the updates will help almost any Facebook user stay in the loop.
What are your thoughts on NutshellMail’s newest functionality? If you’re a fan page administrator, do you plan on implementing it into your fan page? Below is a screenshot of NutshellMail’s newsletter functionality as published by Techcrunch.

Cool idea but too late. Facebook is rolling out their new email opt-in feature this Wednesday. Serious brands will use this to funnel users into their email database, not NutshellMail.

Facebook page admins can learn how to add the application through this link: http//nutshellmail.com/facebook/pages/
Or you can access the application on Facebook and select the "Add to my Page" link on the left side of the page

Ryan,
The new Facebook email opt-in feature simply enables you to ask users for their email address. Once you get that email address, you can use a ConstantContact to send out email newsletters.
However, if you want an easy way to send automatic updates to your users, NutshellMail may be a good option for you. Once set up, you do not have to compose a campaign, which can be time-consuming. Once you have NutshellMail set up, we simply take content from your Page, organize it into an email newsletter and send it to your end users. The other advantage to our application is that users can respond to your posts directly through email, which may encourage more comments and shares to your page.

One piece that is missing in this tool is the ability for page administrators to see who (or at the very least how many) are signing up for this feature on their page. I think I'll hold off using it until that feature is added.

I shared the same sentiment as Grant.
Now, any email sign-ups from the page will goes to the app and not the page owner. The ownership of the email addresses should fall to the latter instead. Or, at least goes to a existing user account whereby we can have a look at, etc.
Otherwise, the existence of this app will prove to be a bright spark to increase the interaction between fans and brands.

@grant agreed.. same here. the tool isn't offering us the right analytics on how useful it actually is.
Other than i think it would soon come under label/fire of being a spam heaven [spamming emails for viral pages]

I'm game. I'll give it a go. I see one of the advantages is that it puts your Page front and centre in the fan's digital life. And that's a good thing for the many fans who aren't active FB participants but who still enjoy the latest updates.

Mark-
I didn't realize the application was also auto-generating the newsletters. That's great! Although it won't serve the needs of big name brands, this may appeal to the thousands of niche, non-corporate fan pages.
You sold me.

Hi Peter
Once again you deliver an interest bite sized bit of up-to-date information. Looking forward to this functionality as I am encouraging all the girls in my network to seriously add themselves to email subscriptions as it is more time efficient.
Will be interesting to see how this rolls out.
Regards
Hayley
