Facebook Now Allowing The Removal Of Original Page Admins

Remove Page Admin IconIn a subtle yet significant change for Facebook Page owners, the original creator of Pages can now be removed as an administrator by any other of the administrators of that Page. This was a serious issue for a number of companies who were looking to shift control of their Pages from a third-party company to someone internal. In other cases, Pages have been sold but administrators have been forced to stay the same. Regardless of the rationale for removing an administrator, doing so was never possible, until this weekend.

Facebook Pages have become the center of Facebook marketing campaigns for small, medium, and large businesses alike. Combined with Facebook ad campaigns, custom tabs, and ongoing user-engagement, Facebook Pages serve as a tool for building community, and often times result in more loyal customers, if the most recent surveys about Facebook Page customer conversion are accurate.

While the ability to remove the original Facebook Page administrators may seem like a small upgrade, it’s a feature that many Facebook Page owners have been asking for since Pages first launched. Thankfully, it’s now available. You can manage your administrators by clicking on “Edit Page” on the left-hand sidebar of your Facebook Page and then scroll down on the right to add and remove administrators.

It’s been like this for awhile (months). Unfortunately I found out a lot by trial and error. Admins can also DELETE the pages too. NOT a good idea. Hope Facebook rethinks this and gives back the power to the creator. I understand the business aspect but why not make it so the creator can appoint an admin as a co-creator so ownership can be transferred if the original creator leaves the company?

Thank you ONeil,
best wishes for all

This is WONDERFUL!! It’s about time!

What if I own the page? What prevents other admins from just taking over my page by removing me? This can’t be a good thing.

SO if I own the page and one of my other page admins removes me, since I own the page, wouldn’t I be able to add myself back as an admin?

I have wanted something like this for a while because of people leaving my company, but this is flawed. It should be a transfer of ownership process so that the admins cannot just remove the creator without approval.

That option is required to take the page control for genuine person.

Thanks for update.

This is HUGE news. About time!!!

For the most part, this is really good news for any business that had a third party (or member of staff who has now left the company) create their fan page. The inability to remove the originating Admin has been a major thorn in the side for so many people. However, this radical change to now allow any Admin to remove any Admin certainly means page owners have to give serious thought as to who has Admin rights and obviously stay in good relation with those folks!!

Actually, this has been like this for a few weeks for me. I was an admin on a page I had not created. I then pressed delete knowing that I would NOT be able to delete it, as the creator was not me and was the other admin. The page deleted itself. I was shocked.

FYI – I was meant to delete it anyway, as we had set up a newer fanpage. But it definitely broke the theory that other admins could not delete someone else’s fan page. I dismissed it as a bug in the system, but remained shocked.

Seeing this update today, just thought I should chime in saying it isn’t new.

And. I think it is bad news. FB should have introduced a “transfer” or “permissions/accepting” tool, so that before a page is deleted, the other admins and creator have to approve it etc.

Hopefully facebook will figure out that this is a disaster waiting to happen for many. Any admin can now just overthrow the page creator!! The page creator should be making the decision to bow out! I hope all page creators quickly take a look at all their admins before it’s too late. This wasn’t well thought out as usual.

I think this is a great idea. I have several business clients who will be happy to know about this. I know the scenario of a fanpage “coup d’etat” sounds scary but your admin can already do quite a bit of damage to your page if they want to can’t they? But somehow you are trusting them with the power they have had thus far, is this that much more dangerous?

Any word on how/if this will affect groups? I’m a member of a group with NO admin left yet I can’t take control of it. Very irritating.

Ideally, the Creator of the page should be able to transfer their status to another Admin, rather than allowing Admins to “take” it from the creator.

Great news! Thank you almighty Facebook, finally! I had a lot of problems caused by previous settings. Maybe it would be better to make it happen through transfer. On the other hands up to now admins could kick out anyone so whats the problem?!

I don’t think people understand the amount of drama that can go on in all sorts of organizations that may have a Facebook page. Sometimes people leave, die (I’ve seen this — believe me you don’t want to bug a grieving family for Facebook stuff) or get upset with an organization and become spiteful. Because many page admins login to administer the page through their personal accounts, the ‘password’ hand-off is not possible.

This is a great opportunity to approach social media strategically with the right people and not because everyone else is doing it.

Finally a good and useful upgrade from Facebook! I have been waiting for this long time as it has been a real nuisance to go and create those Facebook business pages for clients under a Google profile or some other “invented” identity.

Hallelujah! This was the fix I needed! I can see how it could have been done better, but this works!

I am glad I am not the only one. So any administrator can now delaete the original creator and righful owner of a page??

Miranda, I think your proposal is a great idea.

I’m glad to see Facebook take this first step. However, I agree that they need to develop a method to transfer ownership of a page. As an educational institution we are using FB as a key method to reach our constituents, yet continuity of management of our various departmental FB pages has been a challenge.

Great first step Facebook, but don’t stop there.

This is welcomed news and I have just now removed myself from 5 client’s Pages I created for them before I knew, as the ‘creator’ I was not going to be able to be removed! I have happy clients too.

Now we need to have Facebook implement “Share” to Pages as well as Profiles…hint, hint, hint….

I want delete admin for my Page Facebook.
first time i have Sianclinic facebook, but after i click to make account KK then KK become Admin of Sianclinic. I dont know why.?

Can you helf me delete admin ?
i clicked Edit Page but Can not know how to delete it?
Please help me!
THanks

I am having a problem being able to post a page, it tells me I am “other filter”. I was admin and it did this, so I removed myself as admin..and it still filters it. Plus, now (because I am not admin) I can not add myself back as admin..becaue the “edit page” is gone. Ahh? Any ideas?

I was admin of a facebook fan page.

My account was disabled…now there is no admin… what can I do??

I need to either get control or have a friend be admin.

HELP!

OK, What if I want to:

1. Remove myself as admin of a business account

2. Deactivate my personal account

3. Then be added back on the business account as an admin

How do I do it?

If I add an admin, do they need the username and password to the page to make edits or can the edit the page without logging in like that?

By the way, as the creator of a page, I have concerns about being automatically deleted by other admins as well.

Thanks.

JO

sorry for my bad english.
facebook decision is terrible. some one who create a page with more than 50,000 fans is not able to manage page alone. and if he add someones as admins, one of them can remove all admins and creator and have a page with 50,000 fans just in a second and write everything he wants. and no one knows. all fans think this posts are company’s posts. they can make an option to transfer the page ownership by the current owner.

How can we able to request facebook team to fix this problem??? please help.
