This morning Facebook rolled out a new design for events, moving the previous sidebar to the left hand sign and making things much cleaner. The new events design also includes much larger call-to-actions at the top right of the event, asking users to select “I’m Attending”, “Maybe”, or “No” as was previously the case. The new layout resembles the new homepage design much more. It also is a step away from profiles and Facebook Pages which have had an increasingly consistent design.
Below is a screenshot of the new events layout which we are now seeing on all events that we view. Do you see the new layout on your account? Do you think the new design is better or worse than before?

It's alright however, it seems to be missing the "Remove from my events" link.

Very neat!!! nicely done!!

But page event admins have lost some key features…. I have selected not to show who is attending on the event page.. Now even I cant see who is attending and not attending.. and the other key issues with both old and new event features is that admin can not send updates to people who are not the fans of page (when the event is created via a fan page)
Comment by Suranga Priyashantha — July 16, 2010 @ 9:08 am
the remove from my event link is at the bottom under the news feed… along side export, report event…
Comment by DC — July 16, 2010 @ 9:17 am
Not to mention the Edit Event link disappearing for page admins too! Endlessly frustrating.
Comment by Alyson Stringer Stea — July 16, 2010 @ 9:50 am
A third of the site is taken up by ads and they've shrunk the Attending/Maybe/Not so it's takes a bit longer to figure out what's what (having only tiny photos and not names).
It also seems to have removed the people who are not attending; you have to click a link to see it. Annoying when you're trying to sort out a small event (class reunion with only 20 people) and you're adjusting the dates and times fit as many as possible. On the other hand – if you're hosting a large event it just seems messy to have 10 people listed as "attending" with big names and photos right on top of the left sidebar.
We'll get used to it of course, but the first impression is… ads are all I see. It's how they make their living, I get it, but I hope they adjust the sizes – it just distracts you and draws your eyes to the right hand side. Overall… a bit messy.

This is the second flawed change they've made in terms of Events. We need the option to edit an event! And not too long ago they got rid of the option to not post an event to the wall when you create it – very annoying.
Comment by M. Ward — July 16, 2010 @ 10:09 am
Two useful key features (previously available for event creators) have been removed:
EDIT GUEST LIST – Where you were able to grant ADMIN privileges to someone.
PRING GUEST LIST – Where you could see who were attending/maybes
It seems that facebook keeps making changes to annoy its users.. typical!!
Comment by Charles Lambert — July 16, 2010 @ 10:29 am
good – but what we really really need is a function for periodically events!
shouldnt be that difficult, facebook!
Thanks
Comment by jens chrzanowski — July 16, 2010 @ 10:49 am
I don't like it. They also removed the Google Maps link.
Comment by Tom Ditmars — July 16, 2010 @ 11:27 am
I still have the edit event option in the top right corner.
Comment by Brittany — July 16, 2010 @ 1:52 pm
Now there is NO option to “edit” the event (quite a problem, as I entered the wrong time & cannot change it), nor is there a Google map link anymore. So far, I think it’s quite poorly implemented. Thanks, Facebook, for the “upgrade”.
Comment by Radio King — July 16, 2010 @ 3:32 pm
Ugh..I don't like it at all. There's this loss of functionality along with an unnecessary "streamlining," if that's what they'd like to call it. We'll get used to it (they don't listen when users rally to reverse changes, which people do EVERYTIME they do this sort of thing).
Mostly I really hate that they make these extensive changes without telling anybody they're about to do it, or allowing for a period of review before deciding what to keep and what to revert back.
Comment by Sam Equality Scholl — July 16, 2010 @ 5:03 pm
Removing the Maps link is a bad idea.
Comment by Bruce R Kilgour — July 17, 2010 @ 7:37 am
Facebook removing the ability to print or edit the guest list is an epic fail. This make facebook unusable for communicating events and capturing RSVPs. My assumption is they will perhaps offer that option as an add-on for fee. Guess this means that I must communicate all my events through something like evite…ugggg

I wish Facebook would stop playing around with its designs. You get used to something and then they go ahead and change it. Then everyone complains about it. Then life goes on until the next time they shake something up. Leave well enough alone already!!
Comment by CherylT — July 18, 2010 @ 3:22 pm
does anybody know if the edit/view guest list will come back? or do i have to use some other other website to announce and event?
thanks
Comment by steven — July 19, 2010 @ 8:50 am
I find this new design busy, ugly, and cramped. Now you have to "see more" to read all the details about the event. Posting to the wall of the event looks far less clean as it did in the previous incarnation.
Also, FB really needs to find a way to manage event invites easily. I have a large friend list and get TONS of event invites and need a way to clear them easily (e.g. checkboxes) rather than having to open a pop up or view each event to select an RSVP option. Also, I think FB should allow you to "clear all" events when you just want to purge all the crap that arrives!
Comment by Lola — July 19, 2010 @ 12:58 pm
this is a joke! we have 25 events listed ( concert tour) and we have announced and are running consecutive give-aways for each show via the guest list ! each event is attended by hundreds of people and with no way of printing the guest list we have no way of properly drawing (bases on random number draw) or properly filing the guest lists and winners (as we are required to by law). the fact that facebook offers pages to companies for commercial purposes -so we pay for ads to promote the events -and than takes away the key function of printing the guest lists without so much as a warning is joke. It makes the page useless for any company actually dealing with events promotion and will stop us spending any kind of money on promoting our events via facebook, whilst leaving us having to sort a long term campaign already launched without the means to actually do so. Well done facebook.
Comment by IDK — July 20, 2010 @ 3:31 am
The new design is hard to look at. There is no focal point on the page. The link to change your RSVP status is not obvious.
If there had been a problem with the old layout it would make sense to change it, but this doesn't seem to add any value to the user. But unnecessary random changes that remove functions rather than adding any is pretty much the standard for Facebook.
Comment by Mike — July 20, 2010 @ 6:13 am
You can still edit your event. It's at the top of the page, under the name of the event and the "Share" link.
Comment by Elizabeth Pavlica — July 20, 2010 @ 12:48 pm
Facebook becomes more and more like Myspace every day – making useless changes without putting much thought behind it, testing it, or asking its users what they think of the change.
When I first saw the new event page it was UGLY. It looks like it was designed by a retarded kindergardener, but that would be unfair to retarded children, who could quite possibly do a better job.
UI consistency my ass. FB doesn't really care about that or even know what UI consistency means. They proved this when they changed Become a Fan to Like. They said it made the site more consistent. What they did was name two UI elements the exact same thing. I think you learn not to do this in Chapter 1 of any UI design book.
Here are the main issues with the new layout. Hopefully Facebook will address them soon.
1) The worst part of the change is the inability to print the guestlist.
2) That they hide most of the event text. If someone clicks on an event page, it is expected that they want to know more about the event. If it was posted to a wall or something, then a See More button would make sense. But not when the page is dedicated to the event.
3) I hadn't even noticed the google map thing, but yeah it would be nice to have this functionality back.
Facebook's UI redesigns blow major chunks. The only consistency they are creating is to keep them in line with the horrible changes MySpace has made in the past. Have you not learned anything from MySpace? If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I need the !@@#@%@# print guest list feature back!!!!! And now!!!! I've got a party in a week and I need to print the guest list so my parents know who to let in!!!!!
HELP!!!

I see no way to message all attendees of an event now — how the heck am I supposed to update people about changes?
Comment by gd — July 21, 2010 @ 5:48 am
Where the hell is the print guestlist!
Comment by Seattle Scene — July 30, 2010 @ 11:27 pm
I can't find anything hardly on the internet about this. But every promoter i know is furious about it.
What the hell were they thinking? It makes events on facebook unviable. What do i do when I have 400 people attending and can't print the damned list!
Comment by Mike McKoy — August 3, 2010 @ 4:03 pm
Ok I am logged in as admin of my event, which I used to be able to edit, and I do not see an edit event option anywhere. No option to change the event picture. NOTHING. It is as though I am just another guest.
Seriously not impressed. I have tried deleting cookies, rebooting comp, relogging in- still no admin options whatsoever.
Comment by Dee — August 5, 2010 @ 11:44 pm
My #1 issue is not being able to PRINT the list! This is extremely annoying and is going to be very time consuming for me to try to copy/paste/type etc to make the list.
Also, missing the google map link.
Other than that, I haven't noticed much else, but I don't use events a lot.
Next time I will go back to Evite if this is still a problem.
Comment by Dawn Munson — August 10, 2010 @ 6:13 pm
What were FB thinking! Creating an event through a fan page now is riduclously infuriating. BRING BACK THE OLD WORKING MODEL!!

I NEED TO PRINT MY GODDAMN GUEST LIST AND CANT!
Comment by Kai — October 1, 2010 @ 8:03 am
Not being able to print an RSVP List is a problem. we've now had to post a link to Constant Contact where we recreated the event to have a list. After paying to advertise on Facebook as a Facebook event , not pleased!
Comment by Deb Laakso — November 7, 2010 @ 9:50 pm
How can they take away the print RSVP feature. So dumb. That was the best part. What are you thinking facebook?
Comment by Ross — November 19, 2010 @ 6:02 pm
I specifically chose NOT to include an end time for the event on my organization's fan page. Yet, there it is! And I can't for the life of me figure out how to remove it. What is the point of putting a link with the words "include an end time" if one is going to be included anyway?
Does this mean that for every event to which I don't want to include an end time, I'll have to put a note in the "More info?" box explaining that the end time is flexible? AARGH!
Comment by abajan — November 29, 2010 @ 2:24 pm
This is a catastrophe!!!
Apart from the Fact that the description details have been skimmed to boring… I CANT PRINT / EXPORT MY GUESTLIST ANYMORE!!! – I will have to find an alternative to facebook to manage Events in the future…

1) you can't print the guest list and most importantly 2) you can't edit the guest list to remove people you no longer want to invite. This is not good.

I have a new fb Page and there is no option to list/promote an event.
I've searched therough the fb help pages for info on how to announce events on the new page, but all the info is out of date (it tells you to create a new tab called "Events" – when in fact the tabs no longer exist).
Comment by zakmartin — February 20, 2011 @ 11:09 pm
On my page there is an Events link on the left in the area under my logo. When I click that link it takes me to the Events page. At the top right of that page there is a "Create an Event" button. I hope this works for you.
Comment by cmNhu — February 22, 2011 @ 10:28 am
so how to you block a person from seeing a public event?
Comment by makearthappen — July 6, 2011 @ 6:13 pm
I don't like how they've changed up the Facebook chat AGAIN. Even though beforehand I would always get used to it, I feel frustrated by the fact I cannot see if my friends are even on or not. =/

hey Jonathan, did you find some solution ? how to print list of guests???I did copy paste last time and it was drama…
Comment by Basia — August 14, 2011 @ 10:51 am
See more on event listing is annoying and the map is overkill.
The event description should be primary and location secondary…
It's is what attracts people, the description not the location…aaaaah!
