Facebook Launches A New Suggested Interests Box

Remember all the controversy surrounding Twitter’s suggested interests box? Whether or not you do, Facebook is now offering a feature which automatically suggests Pages that new users should become a fan of. Right now the suggestions appear to be among the top Facebook Pages so there shouldn’t be as much controversy, given that most pages are mainstream. This contrasts Twitter’s initial strategy which effectively built popular individuals and helped launch a few media companies in a matter of months.

So who’s included on this new suggestions list? Right now we found the following pages:

  • Facebook
  • Barack Obama
  • Lady Gaga
  • Skittles
  • Monster Energy
  • Dr Pepper
  • Shane Dawson
  • Xbox
  • World Cup
  • Eminem
  • Justin Bieber
  • Toy Story
  • Futurama
  • Playstation
  • The Office
  • Many more!

For the time being, Facebook’s suggested interests box which will be displayed to users will not be as controversial as Twitter’s which was initially a relatively biased list. Instead, this is simply a way to get users posting more information and a great way to automatically populate the feed of new users who are just joining Facebook.

  1. I have my friends personal phone numbers on my friends list in my account. You had better find a way to remove this with one button for us or I will get really angry. I don't even have that right as a friend to have access to this information unless they give it to me. Do the right thing or it will not go well for you and the Face book Co. we are spreading the word and lies don't get it. it really tick me off. you better fix this very sensitive problem.

  2. Sandra J. Schneider,

Aside from being way off topic you seem to be totally under the illusion that FB cares about your friends personal phone numbers. Yes we have them and we will do whatever we want with them! Right now we are doing nothing, later, who knows, lol! I will say that we have a very firm policy against making a lot of prank calls. This may be a very sensitive problem to you , but not to me! As a matter of fact I think I'll check your personal data right now! (You clicked that it was OK on the terms and conditions)

    Take care,

    Mark Z

  3. My favorite is "You like the Indianapolis Colts, so you should become a fan of Jesus." Neither have anything in common.
