Facebook is Truly the Wild West

I’ve been doing a lot of brainstorming recently about potential Facebook applications. As I cover one application after the other, I am witnessing many of the initial concepts that I had materialize. Conversely, many large scale Facebook applications have yet to be launched. The real question is, now that this new platform is available, how many entrepreneurs are willing to gamble a large portion of their resources on trying to fill voids in the marketplace? While I can’t give you that answer, it seems to be that many of the applications that have been launched so far are by single developers. Is this the revival of the one-person startup that I proclaimed dead a few months ago?

The current environment is insanely risky for large business ventures that are trying to get a piece of the action. The market will reward those that are quickest to launch, not necessarily those that have the best product. With so many uncertainties at this point it is hard to predict what will happen, but one thing is for certain: there is the potential for striking it big on the new platform. As you see all these applications appear on my blog and in the Facebook application directory, keep in mind that we haven’t seen anything yet. I’ve seen the beginning but we have a ways to go. Someone, somewhere is about to launch something that’s big. I don’t know what it is, but that’s life in the wild west.
