Facebook Improves Application Login Transition

One of my blog readers sent me a screen shot earlier today of a new transition into applications. Rather than having an additional page in between the user’s profile and the application, Facebook is making a simple AJAX pop-up window as pictured below. While I haven’t been able to duplicate this on my own account, it definitely seems like a rational step.

This step shows that Facebook is dedicated to streamlining the application installation process. The more barriers that Facebook can remove for application developers, the happier developers will be. This is definitely a great step! It will be interesting to see how streamlined the process can get. Thanks to Rory Marinich for the tip.

  2. Glad my tip-off helped. ^_^The only other thing I've seen this work on, beyond the Google Reader app, is in the Books application. When you'd click on a book to see its owner's review, you get the same window.

  4. After receiving a notification that a friend had opinionated about me using the Superlatives app, I clicked on the link which would let me see what Superlative had been bestowed upon me by my friend. Soon after I got this window and was content that at least I wouldn't have to install the app. Alas, I was taken to the "install" page for the app right after "logging in". What was the point of that pop-up window then? Weird.
