Facebook Has Problems With Latest Release

Facebook released a new version of their site code in the past few days and it has been causing some problems. A number of people contacted me regarding issues they were having. One person in particular had problems with CSS files not being accessed properly and as a result pages were breaking. Another person contacted me to alert me to cross-site-scripting vulnerabilities in the current version of their code.

While I don’t know all the details behind cross-site-scripting vulnerabilities, I do know that it tends to be a popular method for hackers trying to maliciously access websites. As of yet I’m not sure if the vulnerability has been resolved but the new version clearly has some issues. These types of issues have frequently arisen previously and Facebook has typically been quick to respond. This is just part of running a large site.

It would be great if Facebook gave a more thorough browser test as well as security test on their staging server. Then again, when your site is being accessed by millions of users on a daily basis, something is bound to go wrong that you couldn’t have even tested for. I havent had any rendering issues but this morning I could not login…then I saw an email from the facebook saying my password was no longer secure and I would need to create a new one. I didnt know what was up, but a few coworkers have had the same issue this morning…I wonder if it is all related?

Yeah, I have had a similar problelm as Andrew in that I haven't been able to log in. I am having further problems in that when I try to reset my password, it emails my now defunct college email… Lame.

Where to start!

Facebook completely broke all CSS for 20 minues site wide last week.

I can log in to facebook but the pages are not loading properly, they take ages to load then when they are done, it doesn't look at all like the normal pages do, it is all spaced out and simplifyed, it's been like that for 2 days now.

ok, does anyone know how to get the CSS to start working??? Cause everytime I go to facebook the page is all messed up, and no images load, also it says Javascript is disabled;well its not…….. anyways when I go on firefox and I use the web developer application; while on the facebook page, I look under CSS and it says that all of the CSS is disabled, so I enable them all and refresh the page, but it all goes back to "messed up mode", anyone got any solutions?????

Whenever I even try to get to facebook (ie, type in http://www.facebook.com into my browser window), I get automatically redirected to http://www.mtnl.com. What’s up with that?? And if I try to get around it by typing in the more detailed addresses, then I get the “page cannot be displayed” message from IE. Grrrr!!!

I seem to be having a problem logging into facebook for the last two days.i use both mozilla firefox and internet explorer and neither of them wants to work.I can access all other websites except facebook.the facebook login page loads and i can type in my email address and password but some how it loads half way and gets stuck between the login page and the facebook home page.

I have been having issues with facebook today. Whenever I try to log in my account will come up for a split second and then the internet application I'm running will close. This has happened with both firefox and safari. It will close and just say that there is an error causing it to quit unexpectedly.

hello, for the past few days i haven't been really able to log into facebook. I have to try logging in about 20 times before being able to do it successfully and after only a fex mintues it logs offf. there is no problem with the password but instead of logging in to my home page it gets redirected to the log in page.

hello,

I was on Facebook for 20 minutes last night and today Safari opened the page and suddenly shut it down and I can't get back on. Everything else is running and loading fine.

I am having the exact same problem as the last post (number 14). It seems to load what looks like a mobile version of facebook. This started 2 days ago. For now I'm only having this problem with IE. I can view facebook properly with Firefox.

Yes! For the past couple days facebook chat has not been working. It says the number of friends online is "undefined". Then last night I tried to log on, and it doesn't look like facebook. You get a white screen with some words in black (times new roman ish) and there are some squares where I guessed you could put in your username and password, It will log you in, but you see no pictures, no nothing. It's so sad! I've been having problems with other sites today as well, so I don't know what's going on. AIM and Hotmail haven't been working too well either.

About two or three days ago, both my wife and I on different computers and different browsers experienced the same problem, the site now appears in a strange narrow format down the left hand side of the screen, almost like a mobile type of format as others have described. It is awful and we have no idea how to fix it! It sure would be nice if someone had an idea what we are supposed to do about this!

I have an application on facebook using PHP. But the problems are

1. The applications area are small and full pages are not coming in this area. No scrollbars are coming. Pages are cut off after some portion.

2. After login in facebook account, user can not move back to its account from the application server. This is happening only in IE browser.

Please help me asap.

My wall has disappeared. I cannot update my status, I cannot open my applications,I cannot open notifications or chat. And at the bottom left of the screen I see "error on page". Facebook hosts, all you have to do is send us all a message saying yes there are problems and yes, you are working to fix them. Thank you.

Since Friday, November 7, 2008 I cannot get into any facebook applications. I can open my facebook page, write on walls, send messages, change profile photos, but cannot open Bumper Sticker, Pack Rat, Flair, Green Patch, etc. . . every time I attempt to open I get the standard

Can anyone tell me if they are having problems connecting to Facebook? IE tries to connect and then locks up. IE can connect to anything else but not Facebook.

I cannot get my I.E.to connect to facebook when I try it just locks up. I can get on other websites no problem.

I have only had my Facebook for less than a week, and am already extremely frustrated with it. It told me to change my password. Now it tells me that my e-mail address isn't even registered there. It's strange to me that if I don't, how am I still getting notices that I am being signed as friends to different persons that I know? HELP!!!

I seem to be having some of the simular problems as others. When I do get on facebook it will not let me do anything. If I try to update, or go into another area it just sits trying to connect. I can't get into anything. The bad thing about FB is you become very addicted to it. I use it to stay connected to all my friends and now I am totally out of touch.

I have been having a problem with FB for the last week. When ever I bring up FB it asks me to log in even though I have checked the remember me box. Then when I get on, every time I change a page it asks me to log on again. I have emailed FB 5 times in the last week, still no answer or resolution. I am very annoyed and frustrated.

I am IT (37 years). Did you test this release?

Many of the pictures of my special friends (my Shih Tzu EWOK and WOOKIEE) are not showing up, and that upsets me greatly.

Last night, I was clicking on my pictures and displaying someone else’s dog. Other clicks retrieved nothing. Are the addresses to my pictures lost?

I have been using Facebook with no problem until 20 minutes ago. I was doing fine on Firefox and Internet Explorer (with IE running better than Firefox for most applications). I closed Firefox browser and tried to open Facebook on IE, and whammo!!!…For some reason that has just popped up a few minutes ago, I can't access the homepage at all. When I enter the url, the login page flashes for a second and my IE browser automatically and abruptly closes. Can anyone out there hint me as to what causes this? It must be a Facebook glitch because I can access all of other internet activity via IE.

Facebook won't load. I get a white page and nothing else happens. I have tried different browsers to no avail. What is the problem?

well i am still able to get to farm town and to my inbox but as far as my profile or homepage…. nothing. it shows im logged in but all i see is a blank page. it was been going on for several days now and im wondering if this will ever get fixed or if it does, i hope it will be soon.

I can only get to farm town by going through the farmtown forum. I can't click on the red F or pull up applications. I can get to pet society by clicking on the paw print.

I can't add no comments to facebook, can't go to any other apps. Its been like this for several days, its gotten so old.

since last friday i have not been able to log into my facebook. i can enter e mail and password and the homepage does not load up it stops halfway. but i can log into my partners facebook from my computer and it comes up no problem. have even tried using my partners laptop to login to my facebook but have the same problem.

i have been having problems with facebook for the past 3 days. i log in and everything but i can't access my profile and home pages, etc. if someone send me a message about another person's profile, i can usually see it. for example, today i was sent a notification to add pictures and comments to secret profile for a friend's birthday and it worked, it did everything. but trying to get back to my info was a headache. i keep getting "a tab has been recovered. a problem with this site caused internet explorer to close and reopen this site".

For a few days now I haven't been able to get into my facebook account. I keep getting the message that Outlook Express has shut it down due to an error on the facebook page. Huh? I can sneak into my inbox via a link I found on search for "finding new friends"…but as soon as I try to go to my profile, homepage, or a specific friends page…it gets shut down by Outlook Express. Any suggestions?

I am having same problems as Brigid and sekhetg. I can log in just fine but when I get to my home page it completely kicks me out. I also get same message from internet explorer. AOL doesn't work either. If anyone finds a fix please let me know!

I am having problems with facebook for the past 3 days. I log in but I can’t access my wall and home pages, etc. If someone send me a message about another person’s profile, I can't see it. I am having problems loading pages in facebook. It is taking forever for a page to load! I can get to a few applications, but loading my home page is impossible! Please help! Facebook, please enlighten!

Yesterday when I logged on I saw that Windows (Vista) had updated numerous files. When I tried to log on to facebook, I was informed my password was incorrect. I tried a few more times, ultimately changed my password. When I tried to log on again, Facebook started creating a new account. I stopped after putting in my birthdate, realizing what was happening. I changed my password back to what it was before. Today I logged on to my account at work and everything was fine. I tried tonight at home to put in the code from the last password change, however, when I went to log in I couldn't get to my old account. It is still trying to set me up a new account. Is there anything you can do to delete the account (same name & email address) that facebook is trying to start. I want my old account back with all my friends, Farmtown & Bowling.

I get into the Favorites to get to Facebook and it reads (code) I put in the 375 code it gave me and says go to your e-mail,but there is nothing and it tells me the code is wrong or changed.

for the past 2-3weeks i havent been able to get onto facebook. as soon as i enter my password and press enter it logs out of the internet. i have tryed on internet explorer and also AOL. its not just my facebook as my friends have tryed to log on on my laptop and it doesnt work. i can log onto facebook on anyother PC/laptop. i have done virus searches etc and still nothing. any tips???

When I try to access facebook, it does not connect. It just says it is loading and nothing loads. Do you have any idea what is going on? I have a Mac computer, if that makes any difference. It was working fine earlier today.

Started a few days ago….logged in & got some "out of line" message & i look at my Friends List & it shows me the wrong number of connections. Took some names off but I check my friend's list & I'm still there and when i disconnect a pending friend request, i refresh the screen & it's back……grrrr. I want this fixed !!!

After I access my Facebook page, I cannot do anything else: change pages make comments, see photos, etc. Every time I try to do anything, I get this message: Transport error (#12031) while retrieving data from endpoint `/ajax/inline_comments.php': Unknown HTTP error #12031…………..Believe me, I have tried to find an snswer to this problem….no one seems to know why that error message.

HI I've been having problems when logging in to facebook, whenever I log in it says my cookies are in my browser aren't set to enable in my security settings. Then I set the security and privacy section and enabling facebook cookies and then allowing cookies from facebook.com. But when I tried to log in again it says the same problem although I have already fixed it and enabled all cookies in my browser…What is wrong with facebook? it's been 4 days this problem is occuring.

yes i am having problems too, for about 1 month now i cant get into facebook on my computer, i have tried everything to fix the problem and nothing works, everything else is working fine on my computer except facebook, i go to the login page it lets me put in my email and password and then comes up saying cannot connect?? but i have used my sisters computer and it works fine…this is driving me crazy whats up with facebook???i want to start a new profile now just so I can get back on..so frustrating!!HELP

So annoying! Couldn't log in because password was incorrect, tho it wasn't, had to request password change, said they sent e-mail but haven't gotten it (more than 24 hrs ago) Tried opening a new account, big mistake, ended up with 2 new ones that I don't want. Don't want my friends

I am a new user to facebook. I can log on and see my home page. However, I can not accept new friends or send a message. The statement "Loading" appears and nothing happens, (even after 5 min).

I have tried turning off my security software, PC cillin.

If I use my husband's laptop, with Sophis, then facebook seems to work for me.

Can you tell me how to set my security settings so that I can use facebook.

I can't log on to my account and it keeps saying that there is a "site issue" and it should be resolved within a few hours. However, it is not resolved and when it finally does let me on I can't see my "wall", only my info page. Others can't even view my profile. This is quite frustrating.

i have had all kinds of problems…could not get my mail. could not cement on friends posts. could not play games. tried to log in 3 or 4 times before it let me and not able to do receive requests or except gifts or post if i am in a game..when someone does post something from a game i can not receive the bonuses. it keeps saying i am not logged in…

hi listen my facebook account for over a week has been ,scrolling itself on ALL applications fron the yahoo browser to F.B to the app i want ,it will very intermittently let me in ,but mosdt often will not …,i deleted and removed the entire account changed the email and it still does it as well as having to be constantly every 2 or 3 minutes refreshed ,this happens on 5 different pc’s not just in my home when i log into my account why ? how do i fix it ?

I can't login my farmville and farmtown since yesterday after they said they had a technical problem and takes 24 hours to fix it. Before this I can enter my farm but they fix the problem,I can't enter my farm and what upset me is all my gifts that my friends gave to me are missing after I accepted their gifts. At Farmtown,I am not only lost my gifts but also my hedges that I bought and so is the coins.

What really happen. Its turn bad to worst after they fix the problem. HELLO I need help here.I love my farm and hope you guys do something about it ASAP.

Says account unavailable. Have tried password reset and it says it isn't available at the moment.

Have emailed Facebook 4 time for assistance and not received a response.

I am really frustrated as I need to access this in order to contact some friends I am visiting in a few days time.

I am not able to access my account either Michaela. It says the account is unavailable because of site maintenance. It's been 3 days for me and no one has contacted me regarding it, really not sure what to do!

Try updating your browser, delete your history and clear your cache…that's all the help I can give you.

Since a week more or less I cant log into facebook anymore because it tells me "wrong Email/Password combination"! Im using a password I used for over 6 years and spell the name at least ten times the day, and it allways worked fine until now! Ive been asking to reset my Password, but no Email arrives to tell me how!? A friend still sees my profile and is able to enter it as friend, but I cant anymore! Strange and sad I find!

For the last 2 days I cannot log onto Face Book. Page just keeps trying to reload. I use Chrome and Fire fox and both do the same thing.

I know it is not my computer since everything else loads up just fine.

I log onto facebook and it shows facebook wall for few seconds then I get kicked off.
Before I would type in facebook so I can log on and it would automatically let me into facebook with out asking for password. It skipped the log in page and password. Strange, I always log in and put my password in, I never save my passwords. So I deleted all browers , temps, cookies and passwords so I can get into facebook… this time I did log in, but still few seconds into it got kicked off and directed to another open page I was on on different tab.. What to do? I would like to get on.
I never could get on to farmville,,,,,when I first tried..I had problems ever since on facebook with different things…is farmville the cause? Is Someone hacking in? Help

There are still a lot of issues with facebook. I hope they will fix it soon. pages wont load, chat not working right, freezing browsers in apps, plus much more. It is really a struggle playing their apps.

So ive been having serious issues with my facebook account and its getting really frusterating..
when i try to log in it takes a million times before it actually logs me in then once i get in i try to check my inbox of messages and it keeps telling that there is issues why it wont let me view them and when i try to look at my friends request it wont let me and when im online it shows there is 0 contacts online to chat with then all of a sudden people will try to talk to me and when i try to talk back to them it says i dont have permission to chat with that person.. its very very frusterating! i cant view anything!!! pointless!! please help me!!

I have been playing farmtown for quite a while now. I really enjoy the game. I have been on level 34 for about 5 weeks i still can not connect to that levels gifts. Each morning i go on i have lost the fuel i had in my gift box the day before. As of this date i have lost over 10 fuel gifts and i can not use my seeder machine. The white line under my points has not moved in a month or more is it suppose to move I now have over 23 million pts. If you could help me with this i can advise other players who have the same issue. thank you very much.

as of this morning we were not able to get onto facebook at either of our computers. Is there a major facebook issue that has caused this? If there a recommended course of action for internet explorer users?

Hi, read through the posts above and feel as if the issues I'm having fit right in.

I can login to FB but cannot go to the FB tab. I can access my profile but that's it.

No games – Mafia Wars, Yoville, etc.

When do you think this will be fixed or should we be doing something?

I got message to say facebook would need to the IE8 version to work to it's best capacity. Now I've done so, I've not been able to connect to home page or even own profile. I can see what friends are on, that's after hrs of waiting for ages for it to get that far. It's more than frustrating as I thought FB was a fantastic avenue to tune into friends and family. Least on IE7 I'd have a few issues of cross messages but still be able to tune into friends n family.

I can log in to Facebook but the homepage doesn't load..it gets stuck halfway..after looonngg moments of waiting it says "done" but d page is blank but d menu bar shows. when i click "home" it tries to do something but nothing happens really..same thing with "profile"..d only thing dat works is my inbox..so i access applications there etc. Being on Facebook supposed to be fun,relaxing and getting/keeping connected, but so far, i only get loads of stress from this. Where to start!

Facebook completely broke all CSS for 20 minues site wide last week.

Then they have some servers that are mangling the CSS (this happened for 18 hours site wide last Friday, but is now intermittent)

Currently I’m seeing them try to scroll the Invite form into view. I have one page with the invite form at the bottom, and it scrolls that page so the user can see it (Forced Invite anyone?)

I've been having a problem for a month or so now. I can log on but when I try to turn a page or go to other areas of FB, I get a message (from Norton I believe) that it will close, a malicious site has tried to access…closes FB & I have to start over….EVERY TIME I TRY TO TURN A PAGE OR ACCESS ANOTHER PART OF FB!!! How annoying. I eventually just turn it off. Looked on Microsoft…disabled add-ons, as stated…nothing helped. Hope FB gets the problem rectified.

Hello, yesterday i changed my email on facebook to maedotmae@yahoo instead of hotmail. my home page is different now and hard to figure out. account settings did not reconize this change and is same. problem is I have this very same email and same password for yahoo. Is this the problem and what can i do to fix it. im afriad of making things worse if i touch anything else at all. HELP PLEASE ! I don't like hotmail and would like to keep yahoo. can you have the same email and passwords for both these two sites.

I've been having the same problems as everyone else, when trying to get on facebook with my account it says that my password is incorrect. My facebook account is connected to a dead email address that I cannot access. The problem is I cannot change my email without getting in touch with someone that can help me with solving the problem. My old account was pez1217@yahoo.com that is no longer in use, but I have been using it since I started facebook. If this problem goes unsolved I will be forced to do something about the problem myself legally to retreave the money that I have spent on Games that I cannot play.

your new home page sucks. you can't refresh your page to update live news feed. there are always errors on farmville and always errors on country life. I used to enjoy being on this but now i am beginning to hate face book. you get something that works and then you screw it up. there are even times i can't get on face book period.

I am absolutlay in love with farmvill and Cafe World. Only problem is cafe keeps freezing up on me and my food spoils and then it shuts its self down. Do not know what to do. I have even up dated my adobe reader. Maybe you need some more power on your end. Seems pretty popular.

There's a saying… If it's not broke, then don't fix it!!!

I was switched over to the new look almost 2 months ago. I am used to the new look now, BUT… why can't we get any explanations on what is going on with all these problems. I have written several messages to Help Center, but no response. FB could at least send out a notice saying they are working on this problem and tell us a little about it.

I am also getting blank pages when I get on. I am not getting any NEW posts. What I see on my page when it finally does come up are posts from 2 or 3 days before, it will not update. It would take too long to mention all the other problems.

What I would like is an explanation. Don't think that is asking too much. I have been very patient over the last 2 months fighting with this new layout. I am getting rather frustrated and bored with it all. I once loved FB, and will miss not being able to stay in contact with new and old friends I have made. FACEBOOK… TELL US SOMETHING. WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON???????????

I have went through all of these comments and it sounds like the developers have never fixed the issue from the beginning. I have a suggestion for the developers fix the original problem first before making changes to the site. Just as My Space was big and you replaced them, so can you be replaced, as people will get tired of the problems and find something else to connect with. I for one am getting extremely tired of the problems!

Cannot view friends ,only by typing in a name and search.

Part of facebook is working and some of it is not.

Which does not make sense to me.

Every time I click something ,at bottom of page it reads,

Done but with errors on page. whats up with that .

Evey single click it will show this reading.

I understand clicking this one thing and then click something else and I get no where .

Can you please see if you can fix what is not working now ,but was a few weeks ago.

I just can not believe this .

I can get into the login page but then get a message that says it is down for “system maintenance and should be resolved in a couple hours”……..that was 12 hours ago. Now my friends are saying that they can’t even look me up by typing in my name……basically showing my account does not exist. If they are having problems then they need to issue a statement…….a couple hours does not equal 12. I have a lot of business tied up in FB and need this problem resolved NOW.

i report to facebook saturday about not being able to login in still can't and no relp from facebook admin please facebook sort it and let me know when i can have my account.

When I type in the URL for facebook, the security lock shows up on the URL line, and nothing happens. I can't get rid of the security lock. It says "done" on the bottom left side of the screen, but the screen is blank.

I am so angry, and by the looks of it above no one is even getting a response here, it's only the people that are having trouble..

I can log in,

but i can't get into my messages, update my status, write on people's walls, make comments, respond to requests, get into chat it say's "undefined"…

I can't do anything!!!

And worst of all i'm trying to plan going overseas i'm in Australia and he's in America and this is the only way i can contact him…

Grrr….

I can log into Face Book, and am able to access my notifications.

I've had some troubles with sending messages though.

I cannot access my chat box by clicking on friends names on the side bar. Nor do I get a response after clicking on the bottom CHAT BOX TAB. The CHAT BOX TAB, after clicking, won't pop-up to allow me to see who's chatting. This is, of course, extremely frustrating, especially since they might be wanting to chat with me.

Remind me, "Why did Face Book elect to make changes to their site?"

I am having problems with Happy Aquarium and Happy Pets on mine. I can play just fine on other computers but mine will not let me play it. I have deleted cookies and temp files and updated my flash player and still no luck. Can anyone help me.

I have been trying to play countrylife on Facebook and it worked for the first like 4 days and now it will not load or even show up. It not letting me accept my gifts either. Its happening to alot of my friends aswell. Is there something wrong? Is it going to be fixed.

When I try to accept gifts on face book it does not give me credit for the gift. It immediately goes white and goes to the top of the page. I do not get credit for the gift. For the application Zoo World, when you accept a gift it is suppose to be at the ip address http://apps.facebook.com/playzoo/zoo/accept gift. It is going to Ip address – http://www.facebok.com/ajax/reqs.php. No matter what app I am trying to accept a gift into it goes to that same ajax instead of where it suppose to go.

i have problems with farmville.It only loads half way to the word BETA then stops under the letter A.

Then it says done.

All the other games i have no problem with.They all load just fine.

Only farmville has loading problems wit me.It has been 2 weeks now.

When I try to access my facebook account I am sent to a virgin site http://act2.virginmedia.com/ and asked to click a link to proceed with Broadband Activation – I have had broadband from NTL, which changed to Virgin since May 2005 so why is this happening? it is very frustrating. I am having continual problems with fb. from the moment i try to log on it goes from installing a blank home page to the internet explorer not working then "this tab has been recovered keeps appearing. I wish they would fix them. I lost a million of gold coins,8 farmville cash lost and a brown rabbit.always out of sync.on petville it locks up, no music or sound and want let me get my vases out of gift box and I can't get the flowers out of the box or delete them to get the vases to put them in. it also locks up. I get tired of we are working on the problem and it never gets fixed. I lose gifts in both of them. also you have no way of contacting them to let them know about your problem where can a person contact them? Petville & facebook.

Can't access my account at all. Started late Friday and still is not working. Facebook won't even load. Tried on my Iphone, lap-top and desktop computer's Nothing works. went to my brother's today. worked fine. Came home and nothing. every other internet page works fine. It's like my service provider has blocked facebook from loading. any sugestions.

I have been having problems where my profile dosent load correctly where the " like " buttons are all over the place and videos that my friends post show up on top of the screen also i keep getting notifications that i have got already show up again. Some people told me to change my browser, and some that are having the same problem told me this did not help them.

I can no longer access my son who is overseas. He can not access my page either. It's as though we have blocked each other, yet we haven't. I'm going to create another page and see if I can access him that way. A few of our friends had the same problem but it only lasted a few days. This is so ridiculous! The porblem with my son's page has been going on since Christmas 2010!

I can no longer view my list of Friends nor the # of Friends that I have. Also, I never abuse anything in life and yet I have been shut down for requesting Friends. i never request more than 10 names a day. Some days I go without requesting any. (MANY DAYS)

Last week I selected my settings in FB and was auto logged out. I incorrectly entered the wrong password and have been unable to establish my acct. Requested a new password, got thru that but then asked for a security code, I so not have a security code other than the temp password. Not instructions on their help page to help me thru this to gain access to my acct. Any ideas?
