Weeks ago, Facebook added a feature that displayed individual’s profiles as public. While the feature has been enabled for sometime, one of my readers informed me that I had yet to cover the feature. By default your public profile is enabled when you are signed up and can be indexed by search engines. The information displayed though is relatively bare. It displays your name, a random selection of 5 friend’s profile pictures and basic profile statistics including the number of photos you have, the number of wall posts and the number of groups you have joined. A while back I had read a few blog posts complaining that Facebook had not disclosed that your profile would be indexed by search engines. While that may be the case, I consider this a relatively moot point given that there is basically no information being displayed. For those that are concerned about extremely basic information regarding their profile being indexed by search engines, you can opt to have your public profile turned off by going to the search privacy page.
