Facebook is the process of testing out a new feedback feature with feed stories. The new feature, which is practically identical to comments, let’s you provide feedback to various users. Why would you want to differentiate between comments and feedback? You probably wouldn’t but as Eric Eldon pointed out back in April, Facebook is testing out credits integrated with feed items. One story after the other is pointing toward a soon to be released credits system within Facebook.
Just today Eric Eldon posted again about a slight change to Facebook’s credit system. Apparently Facebook is switching the cost of gifts from 100 to 10 gift credits. This falls in line with the promotional gift credits that I wrote about yesterday. Whether or not the feedback feature is for credits is unknown, but why would you add feedback separately from comments?
As our anonymous tipster pointed out, “At the most basic level, this change separates the ‘call to action’ (comment!) from the results (other comments). This should dramatically increase conversation.” The tipster continued with the same conclusion that I drew which is that, “The bigger picture is that this opens an avenue for involving multiple levels of ‘feedback’ such as credits, etc., which are separate from ‘comments’.”
For me it’s pretty obvious that all signs are pointing to a near term credit system upgrade right before testing begins with developers. Micropayments are a huge opportunity Facebook. Many consider it a multi-billion dollar opportunity. As Facebook expands credits from an internal service, on to applications, and eventually Facebook Connect enabled websites, you can envision the countless possibilities ahead.
While the system won’t be built overnight, it has clearly become a priority for Facebook whereas before it was a hotly debated topic within the company. From debate to decision, Facebook is clearly moving forward with their payments system and while many virtual currency networks are on guard, developers are eagerly anticipating the roll-out of the credits system. So do you see any need for a feedback feature outside of
Update
Tom Whitnah has posted in the comments that this isn’t actually a new feature. It’s just the first time we’ve seen it. As Tom states, “That link has been around since the introduction of “Like” on the profiles of users who choose to collapse comments and likes (collectively “feedback”) on their profile. The Show Feedback (N)/Hide Feedback (N) links are used to expand the comments/likes when they aren’t shown by default.”

Yeah, I was going to comment on exactly what Tom said. He took the words right out of my mouth

LOL @ you guys. It was one thing to post this nonsense in the first place, but now you're sticking to it?
For a site that covers Facebook exclusively, you guys don't seem to use it very much.

Honestly, I'm shocked you thought that it had anything to do with the credit system.
Comments and Likes are two different forms of Feedback. :/ Its just a collapse/expand toggle.
Comment by Jonah Price — May 23, 2009 @ 10:41 am
How to hide and show the feedback? it's not in my profile.
Comment by Mazzie — May 24, 2009 @ 8:51 pm
This seems like a good place to ask if anyone knows what happened to the "feedback" toggle on my profile's comments and posts. It was there just the other day, but as of yesterday, it seems to have disappeared… I'd like to get it back, as my profile Wall is getting kind of cluttered…
Comment by Alex — May 28, 2009 @ 2:13 pm
I agree with Alex. I miss the option to hide comments/feedback. My profile looks all messy now :0( I hope it’s back soon!

To whom it may concern,
I don’t understand why the format of the “home” page has been modified. More importantly, I don’t like it. I want to see all posting -only- and not every bodies continual business, i.e.; “Pocahontas is now friends with Captain John Smith” I personally don’t need to know those small details.
The “postings” is what I like to look at, but it’s become very annoying to have to click “updates” every time I open Facebook. Why do I have to click “view live feed”? Why can’t it already be there. I’m a simple kind of person, I just want to get the 411 and done. Personally, if I want to go hunting for the information, I will, but not what should be general information
I would appreciate a follow up regarding my concerns and I would appreciate a format, if no the same the similar to what it was like just less than 24 hours ago.
Thank you for your time and efforts

For those who want to have feedback hidden:
Go to your Profile page.
Click on Options just above the first post. The words options will change to Settings. Click on it and uncheck the Auto-Expand Comments option.

I am having difficulty getting any posts to show up – none there and when I click on feed it just sits there. When i do get posts to show, they are in a jumbled order and some seem to be missing because when I click on the feed again, I get entirely different posts.

I don't know what or why you changed the home page this week, but I am sooooo irritated that I can no longer see comments and posts in the order they were posted. "MOST RECENT" WAS THE ONLY WAY I READ MY FACEBOOK AND WILL SERIOUSLY HAMPER MY ABILITY TO CONTINUE USING THE SITE. THIS NEW HOME PAGE SUCKS
