Largest Facebook Game FarmTown Goes Down, Run For The Hills!

FarmTown users have been going crazy this afternoon as the application has become inaccessible to millions of users around the world. FarmTown is currently the most popular game on Facebook according to daily active users and it continues to grow at around 2 percent, or upwards of 300,000 new users per day. So what are the users doing while Farm Town is down? They are refreshing the application to see if it’s back up of course!

While millions of users have found a great way to be unproductive during the day, Zynga is hoping that some of those users come over to Farmville which has become the second most popular application based on daily active users. That means Facebook has over 9 million daily virtual farmers on the site. If only that virtual farming could be used toward something more useful. While I’m not sure of the positive aspect of this, millions of users have been running around chaotically as they can’t tend to their fields.

I can understand the users’ addition as I previously spent a whole week playing the game. I had to stop playing though after I purchased my own house as I didn’t see an end point to the game. Many of these applications remind of the old virtual pet keychains from over a decade ago. Anyways, the application has gone down and this site has been flooded with comments like, “I’m breathing into a bag” and “I’ve played out my Farmville plot – not a scrap of ground left to plant a cow to milk or a tree to harvest and I’ve used every energy and stamina point in Mafia Wars and added every friend – in between hitting that refresh button! LET ME IN MY FARM Farm Town Masters.”

If you are looking for game addicts, you’ve got it. While I’m not sure of the lifespan of these applications, the mafia genre games have been holding steady since the platform first launched. However long these games last, it’s clear that the users are extremely addicted. Luckily some users are reporting that the application is now accessible while others are still in the dark. Apparently the following statement was posted in the Farmtown forums by the Farmtown team:

There are some network connectivity issues between our network provider and Facebook servers.

We are working on solving this issue, but don’t have an ETA at the moment.

We will be extending the “Ready to Harvest” time by 1 day, so you will not lose any crops due to this down time. Come back tomorrow and your crops will still be good as new.

Our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

I'm in a tizzy b/c I have crops that are ready to be harvested and still in the dark! Love the game and truly addicted to trying to achieve the perfect farm! Hope I haven't lost my farm!! When are we going to get to resume playing Farmtown???

I've been having problems with my computer!!! Couldn't get farm town so….I thought it was a software problem with my computer. I've been C R A Z Y all day. I have spent the whole day working on computer!!!! I even Called Insight Broad Band an upgraded to 20. Okay this has gone to far!! I really need to give up facebook. My husband is convinced that is why I got a virus on his Labtop. I guess FT could be why my desktop computer is messed up!!!! I need Answers. I'll have to take my desk top to be serviced.

You can definitely tell when you have a popular game when suddenly everyone is going through withdrawal symptoms because it is down. I have been checking the farm town forums, trying to access the game in facebook, and am personally checking http://www.farm-town.com every 15 minutes to see if they have any updated information on it. I wonder when they are going to have it back up and running? It should be soon, considering how many people are wanting to play!!!

I like the fact that it promotes that if you work with your neighbor by helping to harvest and plow that you're rewarded. Neighbors helping neighbors have always been a code to us Country Folks….Besides where else can you plan, plow, plant, harvest in the comfort of your room and no pesky mosquitoes or gnats….The graphics are really amazing also younger children can see you have to WORK for your money and not have it handed out on silver platter!!!! I vote for Farm Town to stay…..

I am addicted – at level 27 you'd think the edge had worn off my junket – but nah – I keep refreshing and hoping, refreshing and hoping…..

There had been a lot of problems last nite & earlier today, really slow, freezing….I think they're missing out on an opportunity here somewhere!

the makers of the game are extending harvest time by one day so that no one will lose crops because of their server problems. too many people have plugged up farmtown.

Luckily I don't plant crops that take 4 hours to harvest. I will be just fine for another 24. People who lost their harvest can feel the pain of all the real farmers across the country.

What for the life of me I do not understand this in everygame, they get us addicted to the program, we make friends from around the world, and then the program goes crazy, we can not even get into check on our crops, all the time and coins wasted, that sure is not fair, I have seen this in too many games, I wish they would fix it once and for all, it makes me think of shutting this here machine down and start reading books, at least I would know that they would not disappoint me.

i am absolutely gutted! minding my own business, adding to my farm, livestock, a new house etc, all harvested and planted up, when suddenly everything disappeared, it told me to hit the green button and then poof! gone! wont reconnect, just that stupid my web search crap telling me that it cant find the page! my farm is only just starting to look half decent! please please please sort this out and soon! not happy.

LOOK!!!! Everybody needs to just calm down. If ya'll are acting like this about FT then ya'll guys have more time on ya'lls hands. FT will get it fixed in no time. Addicting???? OH YES, I love this game, not only is it fun but to me it is very relaxing and when I couldn't get back in earlier today I really thought I would have an anxiety attack……but I didn't

Glad to hear that they are doing their very best to get it up and running again…PLEASE don't discontinue this great passtime…. Are we going to be able to shovel snow for other farmers in the Winter?…..Will we be able to have parties at our farms with other farmers…they can bring gifts or crops….good idea????

H E L P ~ I need to get to work and tend my farm, my flowers need watering, my friends and buddy's need a job, my animals are hot and hungry, I need to earn more coins and XP's…this is very stressful. Does anyone know how we are suppose to sleep tonight?

my husband go onto computer last night and noticed he couldn't. I have crops that he was going to harvest and I have some now that need to be harvested. Am I going to have to loose these crops. I also had a neighbor request and when I excepted it it was lost do I need to try again. Hope this comes back soon.

This is getting ridiculous. It would be appropriate to post something on the FB page to let people know what is going on. I'm tired of hearing I agreed to be a tester. No, I didn't. All it asked was for me to allow them access. This is BS. Communicate with your players like Farmville does. I think the demand from people moving over to Farmville has crashed that as well.

I harvest in my sleep..I plow while doing laundry..i plant while doing dishes..i rearrange my farm a dozen times a day..all in my head. I have the cleanest house in town, c'mon farm town techs..get us back on before i scrub the paint off the walls! I’m relieved that the “masters” are working on this problem. I don’t understand my addiction to Farm Town. I usually play Sudoku, crosswords, solitaire, etc. games. But even when I don’t have crops to harvest I can’t stay away from F.T. It’s not about winning or gaining money or levels. It’s about “doing” the sowing and reaping and hiring people to work for you and working for others. . . I just really LOVE this game. Please get it back up soon.

i also facing this problem, unable to get into the server of farm town, when somebody hired me to plow, i unable to plow , in my computer will delete the plot, it will back to grass. during harvested it will shown all the wording like "ready to harvest". anybody came a cross this problem.

With the latest update the other day, the makers of Farmtown have really taken a step backwards in time.

1) They have screwed up the graphics.

2) New purchases are not being added to farms.

3) Buildings, trees and other things have been "stolen" from the farms.

4) Constant disconnects

5) Some people are not getting their money when working for others

I hope the hurry and get a fix for everything they have screwed up over the past week. The majority of people wants to upgrade their farms, but are leary of things not showing up. It is totally ridiculous!

I totally factory restored my computer today because I thought I had a virus since I could not sign on to Farm Town. This sucks! I have went to a lot of trouble with my computer…all because of this site. I am very seriously thinking of not participating in facebook or any of it's games becuase of this. Come on people…everytime you tweek we pay the price…leave well enough alone and just let us play the damn game.

My FT isnot working good thing i have a niece and her computer is letting her on i planted cabbages when it was working and now its not so she is going to harvest and plw for me it it making me very upset im addicted everytime i get on i never get off. I see that ya'll want us to get on FV but its not as fun and it looks like its virtual and FT looks more realistic so i prefer FT but it decided to GO DOWN!!!! :'(

Please give us at least a clue when or if you will ever get farmtown and farmville back on, You could at least post something so we know there is hope, Im about ready to give up Facebook all together! Was working last night buy not tody. All I see is a green screen. 99% of the time I'm on my lap top so I tried playing on my conputer at work and it works there buy not on my lap top????????????? Farmtown was still not working as of 7:30 this morning. I see you are only extending 1 day to harvest ready crops. It has now been down since Monday night around 11 pm so I am sure people have lost lots of money and crops during this time. I feel like the time should be extended.

i'm getting the green screen issue too and i can't figure it out. i uninstalled flash 10, which i just upgraded yesterday, and downgraded back to 9.something. tried both firefox and ie 7, cleared cookies, restarted, etc. and nothing works. any ideas?

nothing on your farm will go to waste there extending the crops nothing will die this game has been down for almost a month and a half for me and my mom as well noting will die and nothing should be lost there connection to farmtown and facebook and the upgrades to the game it the cause of the problem they thought they had it fixed and it crashed again so now there trying a different way to fix it with thirteen million players just on farmtown and 300,000 new players a day you can expect more and more problems to come lol

ok well lets see i will answer alot of the questions on here first off if you are plowing for someone or your own farm and see green and now the plow its the game ok and if you harvest for someone and you dont see your money going up its the game all the problems you are experencing is the game ok the green screens the money loss or not seeing money going up and yes i have had alot of virsus on my computer my computer crashed cause of farmtown and dont upgrade your flash player or do anything to your computers ok i tried all that and still cannot play its the game everything you all are experencing everyone else is to there trying to fix it just leave it and they will try to fix it asap

I, and several others lost a whole bunch of crops because of the service being down. It was not my AOL or my computer. I wonder how they will give us back out lost crops or coins. I have plowed under my "DEAD" crops and replanted, so have several of my fartown friends. Now what? For handicaped or shutins this game has been a godsend. It connects us to the outside world, the whole world. Lets see if we can fix it and even add a few levels and perks, like feed & water troughsfor the animals, mudpuddles for pigs, saddles for horses, tractors to plow after a certin level, even larger plots. I know some of these things are on farmville. but farmtown is where its at.Thanks for many hours of companionship. Hope its back for good.

I am an online farmer and the thing that I enjoy the most about this game is the sense of community that you get with the other people who are playing or working the farm, with you. FB is all about networking and staying connected. I think that people who are busy enjoy that time that you can pop in and out of your friends lives at your leisure. This is only one way of connecting and shouldn't replace helping your real neighbors, or visiting your friends in a more personal way!

I got kicked off of a great plow job and didn’t get credited for what I plowed. I know,, you have heard a thousand acomplaints, yes I am addicted to this game. Hope it is back up soon.
Thanks for the new level’s but those of us who have reached the top old level need more room to buy more stuff and its frustrating that we don’t get more land. Why play the game to reach the new level if you don’t have any room to put the new stuff on. thanks for your time and hopefully we will be able to play again soon especially with moe land.

It's been more than 2, maybe 3 weeks since I've been able to get into farmtown. I did manage to get to send gifts one night last week but that was as far as I was able to go. I've read through the forum and don't appreciate the bold and large font suggesting we're posting our frustration in the wrong threads and that the devs will ignore or delete them. It sounds like they're frustrated as much as we are but they're getting paid to provide a service so they need to suck it up.

I've updated adobe flash player, i've cleared my cache–I've done everything they suggest but the problem exists both at home and at work so I know it can't be the computers I'm using.

I'm playing farmville exclusively because it's the only game I can access and I have to go through http://www.farmville.com because I can't link up to it from facebook. So the problem, I figure, must be between facebook and the games because I can't play any of them otherwise.

I'm really down with facebook now. I guess myspace is starting to look pretty good again.

I am unable to open farmville once I have connected to facebook. It loads about 90 percent then starts downloading the following files: flashlocalexml.xml, gamesettings.xml. I have adobe flash version 10 installed on my pc as I was told to have the current flash program installed. I can access facebook and read my messages without any problem. This started 4 days ago as I was in farmville and went to the home area to read incoming items. When I tried to go back into farmville it wouldnt let me. hi i love the game farm town but recently i log on and in a few minutes of playing it says server timed out and need to click on the green tick which starts the game over. I find i am having to do this about 30 times in like half an hour which is so frustrating, this is such a lovely game and would like to play more even my kids are playing it now and its doing the same thing. Farmtown has not given me my plow points today I plowed a farm it was very big and I got no plow points credit this is not the first time this has happened and it has happened ramdowly on other plowing jobs and even harvesting this is kind of annoying since it happens too often it would make the game much more enjoyable it this was corrected.

Going to neigbhors farms and getting cheated out of those farm points this is not fair please recheck and fix the game. Another thing the server knocked you out of the site when your hired for a good harvesting job, you need to recheck the server on your site farmtown. Thank you for your time and attention. Please try to fix these problems.

Green Farm has a real problem becaue it took a big good balance one night aand next day went in to play again with having a big minus balance instead… So where does all the coins go….were stolen from me. I've been having problems with my computer!!! Couldn't get farm town so….I thought it was a software problem with my computer. I've been C R A Z Y all day. I have spent the whole day working on computer!!!! I even Called Insight Broad Band an upgraded to 20. Okay this has gone to far!! I really need to give up facebook. You can definitely tell when you have a popular game when suddenly everyone is going through withdrawal symptoms because it is down. I have been checking the farm town forums, trying to access the game in facebook, and am personally checking http://www.farm-town.com every 15 minutes to see if they have any updated information on it. I wonder when they are going to have it back up and running? It should be soon, considering how many people are wanting to play!!!

I like the fact that it promotes that if you work with your neighbor by helping to harvest and plow that you're rewarded. Neighbors helping neighbors have always been a code to us Country Folks….Besides where else can you plan, plow, plant, harvest in the comfort of your room and no pesky mosquitoes or gnats….The graphics are really amazing also younger children can see you have to WORK for your money and not have it handed out on silver platter!!!! I vote for Farm Town to stay…..

Luckily I don't plant crops that take 4 hours to harvest. I will be just fine for another 24. People who lost their harvest can feel the pain of all the real farmers across the country.

What for the life of me I do not understand this in everygame, they get us addicted to the program, we make friends from around the world, and then the program goes crazy, we can not even get into check on our crops, all the time and coins wasted, that sure is not fair, I have seen this in too many games, I wish they would fix it once and for all, it makes me think of shutting this here machine down and start reading books, at least I would know that they would not disappoint me.

i am absolutely gutted! minding my own business, adding to my farm, livestock, a new house etc, all harvested and planted up, when suddenly everything disappeared, it told me to hit the green button and then poof! gone! wont reconnect, just that stupid my web search crap telling me that it cant find the page! my farm is only just starting to look half decent! please please please sort this out and soon! not happy.

LOOK!!!! Everybody needs to just calm down. If ya'll are acting like this about FT then ya'll guys have more time on ya'lls hands. FT will get it fixed in no time. Addicting???? OH YES, I love this game, not only is it fun but to me it is very relaxing and when I couldn't get back in earlier today I really thought I would have an anxiety attack……but I didn't

Glad to hear that they are doing their very best to get it up and running again…PLEASE don't discontinue this great passtime…. Are we going to be able to shovel snow for other farmers in the Winter?…..Will we be able to have parties at our farms with other farmers…they can bring gifts or crops….good idea????

my husband go onto computer last night and noticed he couldn't. I have crops that he was going to harvest and I have some now that need to be harvested. Am I going to have to loose these crops. I also had a neighbor request and when I excepted it it was lost do I need to try again. Hope this comes back soon.

All it asked was for me to allow them access. This is BS. Communicate with your players like Farmville does. I think the demand from people moving over to Farmville has crashed that as well.

I harvest in my sleep..I plow while doing laundry..i plant while doing dishes..i rearrange my farm a dozen times a day..all in my head. I’m relieved that the “masters” are working on this problem. I don’t understand my addiction to Farm Town. I usually play Sudoku, crosswords, solitaire, etc. games. But even when I don’t have crops to harvest I can’t stay away from F.T. It’s not about winning or gaining money or levels. It’s about “doing” the sowing and reaping and hiring people to work for you and working for others. . . I just really LOVE this game. Please get it back up soon.

i also facing this problem, unable to get into the server of farm town, when somebody hired me to plow, i unable to plow , in my computer will delete the plot, it will back to grass. during harvested it will shown all the wording like "ready to harvest". anybody came a cross this problem.

With the latest update the other day, the makers of Farmtown have really taken a step backwards in time.

1) They have screwed up the graphics.

2) New purchases are not being added to farms.

3) Buildings, trees and other things have been "stolen" from the farms.

4) Constant disconnects

5) Some people are not getting their money when working for others

I hope the hurry and get a fix for everything they have screwed up over the past week. The majority of people wants to upgrade their farms, but are leary of things not showing up. It is totally ridiculous!

I totally factory restored my computer today because I thought I had a virus since I could not sign on to Farm Town. This sucks! I have went to a lot of trouble with my computer…all because of this site. I am very seriously thinking of not participating in facebook or any of it's games becuase of this. Come on people…everytime you tweek we pay the price…leave well enough alone and just let us play the damn game.

My FT isnot working good thing i have a niece and her computer is letting her on i planted cabbages when it was working and now its not so she is going to harvest and plw for me it it making me very upset im addicted everytime i get on i never get off. I see that ya'll want us to get on FV but its not as fun and it looks like its virtual and FT looks more realistic so i prefer FT but it decided to GO DOWN!!!! :'(

Was working last night buy not tody. All I see is a green screen. 99% of the time I'm on my lap top so I tried playing on my conputer at work and it works there buy not on my lap top????????????? I've refeshed, restarted my computer, you name it I've done it. I hate this game there is always something wrong with it.

Farmtown was still not working as of 7:30 this morning. I see you are only extending 1 day to harvest ready crops. It has now been down since Monday night around 11 pm so I am sure people have lost lots of money and crops during this time. I feel like the time should be extended.

i'm getting the green screen issue too and i can't figure it out. i uninstalled flash 10, which i just upgraded yesterday, and downgraded back to 9.something. tried both firefox and ie 7, cleared cookies, restarted, etc. and nothing works. any ideas?

nothing on your farm will go to waste there extending the crops nothing will die this game has been down for almost a month and a half for me and my mom as well noting will die and nothing should be lost there connection to farmtown and facebook and the upgrades to the game it the cause of the problem they thought they had it fixed and it crashed again so now there trying a different way to fix it with thirteen million players just on farmtown and 300,000 new players a day you can expect more and more problems to come lol

ok well lets see i will answer alot of the questions on here first off if you are plowing for someone or your own farm and see green and now the plow its the game ok and if you harvest for someone and you dont see your money going up its the game all the problems you are experencing is the game ok the green screens the money loss or not seeing money going up and yes i have had alot of virsus on my computer my computer crashed cause of farmtown and dont upgrade your flash player or do anything to your computers ok i tried all that and still cannot play its the game everything you all are experencing everyone else is to there trying to fix it just leave it and they will try to fix it asap

I, and several others lost a whole bunch of crops because of the service being down. It was not my AOL or my computer. I wonder how they will give us back out lost crops or coins. I have plowed under my "DEAD" crops and replanted, so have several of my fartown friends. Now what? For handicaped or shutins this game has been a godsend. It connects us to the outside world, the whole world. Lets see if we can fix it and even add a few levels and perks, like feed & water troughsfor the animals, mudpuddles for pigs, saddles for horses, tractors to plow after a certin level, even larger plots. I know some of these things are on farmville. but farmtown is where its at.Thanks for many hours of companionship. Hope its back for good.

I am an online farmer and the thing that I enjoy the most about this game is the sense of community that you get with the other people who are playing or working the farm, with you. FB is all about networking and staying connected. I think that people who are busy enjoy that time that you can pop in and out of your friends lives at your leisure. This is only one way of connecting and shouldn't replace helping your real neighbors, or visiting your friends in a more personal way!

when you gave people their coins (the new ones) it went according to the level you were on….well I was cheated.

I was 2 levels above what they paid me for.

I got kicked off of a great plow job and didn’t get credited for what I plowed. I know,, you have heard a thousand acomplaints, yes I am addicted to this game. Hope it is back up soon.
Thanks for the new level’s but those of us who have reached the top old level need more room to buy more stuff and its frustrating that we don’t get more land. Why play the game to reach the new level if you don’t have any room to put the new stuff on. thanks for your time and hopefully we will be able to play again soon especially with moe land.

It's been more than 2, maybe 3 weeks since I've been able to get into farmtown. I did manage to get to send gifts one night last week but that was as far as I was able to go. I've read through the forum and don't appreciate the bold and large font suggesting we're posting our frustration in the wrong threads and that the devs will ignore or delete them. It sounds like they're frustrated as much as we are but they're getting paid to provide a service so they need to suck it up.

I've updated adobe flash player, i've cleared my cache–I've done everything they suggest but the problem exists both at home and at work so I know it can't be the computers I'm using.

I'm playing farmville exclusively because it's the only game I can access and I have to go through http://www.farmville.com because I can't link up to it from facebook. So the problem, I figure, must be between facebook and the games because I can't play any of them otherwise.

I'm really down with facebook now. I guess myspace is starting to look pretty good again.

My turn! I can't load-in to Farmtown for about an hour now and am frustrated as I have crops ready to harvest that my son in Arizona was going to harvest for me. It's his second night and he gets to experience Mom's frustration. Perhaps it's time to find something more constructive to do with my time!

I am unable to open farmville once I have connected to facebook. It loads about 90 percent then starts downloading the following files: flashlocalexml.xml, gamesettings.xml. I have adobe flash version 10 installed on my pc as I was told to have the current flash program installed. I can access facebook and read my messages without any problem. This started 4 days ago as I was in farmville and went to the home area to read incoming items. When I tried to go back into farmville it wouldnt let me. Can you help me as I am unable to find help and still can’t load farmville. I am able to access my other games on facebook. Thanks Ron Rosentrater

hi i love the game farm town but recently i log on and in a few minutes of playing it says server timed out and need to click on the green tick which starts the game over. I find i am having to do this about 30 times in like half an hour which is so frustrating, this is such a lovely game and would like to play more even my kids are playing it now and its doing the same thing. I have uploaded flash player but nothing seems to be helping pls can you guys see to the problem it would be greatly appreciated.

Farmtown has not given me my plow points today I plowed a farm it was very big and I got no plow points credit this is not the first time this has happened and it has happened ramdowly on other plowing jobs and even harvesting this is kind of annoying since it happens too often it would make the game much more enjoyable it this was corrected.

Going to neigbhors farms and getting cheated out of those farm points this is not fair please recheck and fix the game. Another thing the server knocked you out of the site when your hired for a good harvesting job, you need to recheck the server on your site farmtown. Thank you for your time and attention. Please try to fix these problems.

The same has happened more than once where I have done three farms and no points have been added. It is very dissappointing. It also happened this morning. Now we can't even get on the farm. Its the only game I play. I also have Farmville. but don't play it because Farm Town is better/ I sure hope you can fix the problem

Green Farm has a real problem becaue it took a big good balance one night aand next day went in to play again with having a big minus balance instead… So where does all the coins go….were stolen from me. Now just keeps saying need more coins. …. I had my big balance when turning it off…… really cheated by this game!

I have been trying to get onto farm town for the past couple of days. One computer lets me on but the new one with windows 7 will not. Can someone explain why this is the case.
