Facebook Email Begins

Last month I suggested that Facebook may be launching an email application. Today, Facebook took a huge step in that direction. Facebook announced a new feature that allows users to write messages to their friends that aren’t currently using Facebook from within the messaging system. Not only can they send; they can receive as well. Even if your friend is not a Facebook member, they can now reply to your messages.

Personally, I won’t take complete advantage of this because Facebook’s messaging system doesn’t have a robust feature set. This is a signal though that they are taking messaging seriously. It is also an excellent way for Facebook to increase their growth rate. They have also added in an additional feature:

Facebook will add any email addresses that you message to your “friend selector”, so you don’t have to remember everyone’s email address all the time. Also, if you message someone who is on Facebook but you use their email instead of their name, we’ll automatically forward the message to their Facebook Inbox. As we continue to make Facebook more useful for everyone, these changes mean that there’s no need to switch between Facebook and email for your daily communication needs.

This is one small step for Facebook, one giant leap for mankind. Well not really but it’s a big move on their part. All that I now hope for is that Facebook adds search functionality to their messaging system. Once Facebook adds effective search and indexing features I will definitely use their messaging system even more (which is difficult considering it currently accounts for at least 25% of my communication).   7. I am having a problem signing into facebook… Recently it says that my password is constantly wrong and to reset it, I have done this so many times now that it says I have hit my limit in changing my password and that I cant do it any more neither can I sign in. Does anybody know why?

    Please let me know….like all the comments further up, I use facebook now more than anything else, and its like loosing my personal dairy…

  14. How do you contact Facebook to register a formal complaint against their verification system that requires All household members to be so RICH that they have Separate phone numbers? My sister and her husband do Not have a job. I Am on disability. I live with my sister. Your policy discriminates against the working poor and the disabled. And, your policy discriminates against All people who do Not have text messaging on their phones!

    Sorry to post here, but a search for contact facebook got me a stupid page of information that did not allow me to contact anyone!
    I used to be a member of facebook, then quit. I came back only because MySpace had more ads that blocked their usage then I cared for. I wish I could hate and loathe all social networks sites that have games on them. It would save me a lot of issues. However, I do appreciate the games. So, I’m stuck with an unverifiable account and No alternative.
    Please for the Love of People who are Poor! Allow people to use the same phone number as someone else! It won’t stop the no texting issue, but at least all people in the same house could use the same phone instead of never being able to verify account.

  19. Hello. I am hoping you can fix my account. Seems to be I have a virus or have been hacked into.   21. How do I get in touch with Facebook? Do they have an e-mail address….or complaint department?

    My photo uploader is stuck and I have to rebute my computer everytime…..very inconvenient….and I cannot post photos or send them

    I am attempting a name change. My legal name is only known to family and childhood friends. My Islamic name is what I'm known by – Niger Muminah al-Nur. I've made numerous attempts, to no avail, to simply do what others are permitted. I'm certain that the problem is the spelling of my first name Niger, if Facebook would look closely, they'd see that there is only ONE G in my name!!! Why would I name myself Nig-er???

  33. I want my profile to come up when someone searches my ladt name and facebook says go to home page at top right and click on requests but there is no requests there to click on. I tried updating from xp to e #7 but that did not work either. Please help

    I have set a loads of accounts up with my name and email over the last year and each one is getting deleted.

    I would like to know why my account keeps getting disabled and could you please tell me the reason for it and who is complaining, i have a suspicion that it could be Sarah Jane Henson. She is a family member who i am having trouble with at the moment and she knows its an easy way to get to me. Hense the reason i have been forced to open a few accounts after she may be the one who is disabling my accounts.

  61. Member Karin Asplund has been sending messages of untruths about me to my family and friend. I blocked her from my site, and they have contacted me about her messages and some have copied, scaned and sent them to me. All of this is being done on FB.   62. Try resting your cursor on the line of the update. To the right, you should see an "X" appear; Click on that X and follow with clicking on "OK".

    It will not "Stop" this behavior but it will remove any particular notice regarding activity that bothers you.
