Facebook Educates Users About Social Plugins

-Social Plugins Icon-Yesterday afternoon Facebook released a new video which educates users about the company’s new social plugins service. Most important is that it educates users about the privacy issues surrounding the plugins. Many in the press have inaccurately stated that Facebook’s social plugins share data with website owners. Due to the misunderstanding, Facebook felt that it would be useful to provide users with more information about the ways that social plugins work. The result is the video which is embedded below.

  1. Very good and simple explanation of how users can understand Facebook plugins and what they do. Good video.

  2. Nice video, but somehow it seems Facebook assumes its users are morons ('… before you have had to chose between facebook or the other site…' really!? One can only browse one site, like, ever!?) and it is not quite true, either ('click on 'like' and you'll share with your friends' – aehm, default is still 'share with everyone' …)

  4. Very simple movie with very good information, Some of my students had concerns that basically we allow Facebook to gather basic/ important/ personal information about our website by installing the S.plugins. I trust that if by any chance there is data collection, it is being used for good causes… and from the other end, if there is a data collected that i am not suppose share with people, or do not want to uncover… i may don't want to do it online… So this the acceptance of the new and renovated truth where we are sharing our LIKES, and information, and habits (good or bad) online… so we will be better served with more Direct advertizing for better CTR's… I enjoy the new world.

  5. These comments sound like they were planted by Facebook employees. There is no presentation of the flipside in this video. And how our personal information may be used in the long run still remains unclear.
