In the past, Facebook’s notifications have been a continuous stream of updates about who has commented on your posts, who has tagged you in an image, or one of many other notifications. This afternoon the company rolled out a change which consolidated many of the notifications. We haven’t seen all the changes yet, however multiple people have reached out in the past 15 minutes.
While not a dramatic change, having all the notifications grouped when a large comment thread starts about an image or on a status updates makes things much cleaner. Let us know if you’re seeing this changes as well!
Thanks to Michael Hochman for the tip.

Yeh, seeing it in the UK. Makes sense really.

Yes, I've noticed and I appreciate the cleaner look. I hated it when they started streaming the comment notifications in our news feed. I preferred it when it was still in the "highlights" section off to the side. That way if you didn't care that so and so is now friends with so and so you did have to read about it in your news feed.

Wonderful! Now all we need is for the program to recognize when the same person "liked" & "commented" on the same post/status.

Great! Now all we need is for the program to recognize when the same user "likes" & "comments" on the same post/status and list that as a combined notification.

i don't know about this afternoon, because I've been seeing that change for the last 3-4 days, and it really is a lot better and easier to deal with!!!

I like it for the news feed, but it sucks for notifications. It totally confuses the actual order of notifications – what's new and what's old. Notification updates should be clean and simple. I'm fine with some being merged, but only merge "unread" notifications then. The combination is messy. I've already been inclined to ignore notification updates. That's an immediate UX #fail.

ok. consolidation is fine & dandy. But what the heck did ya do with all my game posts? Now all I get is youtube video's, 100's of status msgs, ppl who click 'like' on pages & other ppls posts…I want my game posts back!!! You can keep ur darn video's, 'like' & chit-chat…all i wasnt is the game posts…I don't wanna know that joe blow down the street got beat up last night or that 50 ppl 'like' a statement about some lady having PMS! And why in the heck am I getting posts from ppl who aren't even on my friends list? This is plum crazy!

I can't see it yet – hope it comes soon because I can imagine this being pretty useful.
Does it tell you you have 14 notifs and show you three condensed boxes, or does it say you have just 3 notifs?

I understand why some would like it, but it has lead to me missing things on my own wall. I don't care for it.
I'd love to have a choice in my account settings. "Individual or Consolidated Notifications". That seems like it would be a win/win.

I’m seeing it too. I agree with Angie. I don’t mind unread notifications being merged but I don’t want old notifications mixed in. It’s confusing and actually adds to the clutter.

That's my face in that photo, on my page's page, 'The Laid-Off Life: the weekly column on PhillyJobsBlog.com'. However, the link to my name in the the sourced courtesy isn't right (broken link). The correct link to my column is http://www.phillyjobsblog.com/search/label/Laid-O... and the correct link to my page is: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=lf#!/pages/Th….

I hate it. Including old notifications for comments I've already read is just clutter.

Hate hate HATE this! Why can they not give us a choice?
Fine to lump notifications form one person together (like the people who comment on eveything and every photo), but I never know what is new anymore.

An efficiency improvement that is foolish to argue about. Well done!
