Facebook And CNN Partner For Michael Jackson Memorial

Following up on the most successful live streaming event for Facebook ever, the Presidential Inauguration, CNN and Facebook have partnered once again, this time it’s for Michael Jackson’s memorial. The two are not the exclusive providers of the streaming event but it will clearly be a big event especially for Facebook users as Michael Jackson is now the most popular person on the site.

While Michael Jackson’s Facebook page does not appear to be promoting the event (probably since it’s owned by Sony Records), over 50,000 people have already registered for the Facebook event so far. CNN has also begun promoting the event via the CNN Live site. The application will function just as it did before with a live stream and Facebook’s live stream widget as well.

Given that millions of people RSVPed to attend his memorial, there’s no doubt that there will be a large number of people watching what is sure to be a massive memorial via multiple online channels. Facebook and CNN will be one of the primary streams. As Michael Jackson’s Facebook page surges past 7 million fans, it will be interesting to see what sort of response is generated.

While this site has written enough about Michael Jackson’s Facebook memorial, I’m sure there will be countless other resources to get up to the date information.

  1. Jack Kerouac prophesized that the Second Coming of Christ would happen on TV. Perhaps pages of Facebook are portals — the new online cross-faith culture signalling inclusive spirituality. I attempt to communicate this in my play "Facebook Puberty."

  4. When Elvis died, there wasn’t 24 hour news coverage, so it wasn’t dragged out near as long. I was just a kid then, but my parents were huge Elvis fans so I remember his passing. Also remember, MJ was a huge target for the tabloids, even more so then Elvis ever was, so the coverage after his death is really no surprise adding to the fact he was on the edge of a possible comeback.

  7. My heart is broken I have grown up with Michael,We are the same age and there has always been an understanding in my heart of him.He gave all of us around the world his all.I know that his sweet spirit will be at all Memorials.

After all the thing he craved the most was Love! I think the closest he came to that was his Mother and his children!

I know he was troubled,I know the drugs were a very sad situation. However, when you have been through the things he has from such a young age,Five years old to fifty. The saddest year of his life for all of us.

I know in my heart that Michael is in a better place, where there is no need for medication, but most of all Love is in abundance!!!!! Michael, forever be at peace!

    Love ,

  8. Like many others, I grew up with Michael Jackson. We are the same age. I was a HUGE Jackson 5 fan, attending their concerts at Madison Square Garden in NY in the '70s. Had a brush with greatness when friends & I waited outside Westbury Music Fair (on Long Island) to see the Jackson 5 in the late '70s. We waited at the stage entrance and saw them arrive in black limos! They got out and there was just a wooden "police"-type barrier between us and the J-5! Last time I saw MJ in concert was in 1988 at the Meadowlands in New Jersey ~ the "BAD" Tour. He is and will remain the greatest entertainer in HISTORY! RIP, Michael … You will always be loved by those who appreciated you and your music.

My heart goes out to you and your family in the greatest lost of our time…Micheal Jackson, who will make my 3 year old son, Justin Nathan Mathieu dance now. I love you Micheal, may God embrace you in his kingdom and may he keep you safe and provide you the love that you were missing here on earth.

  14. i would like to know why joe jackson is allowed to be at the services, and not in jail. he is a child abuser and has warped michael since the beginning. not only michael, but all of the children, but because micheal was the lead, more pressure was put on him. joe should not be allowed to enjoy one more dime of michaels money. he is truly a most talented person, and too bad he couldn't enjoy life with more freedom. at least he's at peace now

  22. I am deeply saddened by the news of this loss. Michael Jackson was a legendary icon who felt like someone I’ve grown up with from childhood. His music influenced everything we hear today, the 1st black star to hit mtv, he was truly the greatest performing artist of my lifetime an there will be no other greater than MJ himself!

  24. I am saddened by the passing of one true entertainer in my generation. my heart goes out to his family and friends you have lost a son, brother uncle and father.
With that said i am mad as hell by the comments made by what we can call nothing more than a joker Mr Deutch on the Ed Show on MSNBC tonight that he was nothing more than a singer and dancer. If that idiot had checked his facts on the man he would have realised that Michael “THE KING OF POP” jackson for the majority of his career used his art form to bring light about things that meant alot to him and by extension many of us.

THE EARTH SONG, WE ARE THE WORLD, THEY DON’T CARE ABOUT US and many more that Mr. Deustch will never understand. what about those of his many charities that he gave to. Mr. Deustch could live fifty times over and never see or acheive what that man has done for us, his fans and by extension the world you fool.

REST IN PEACE MY KING YOU ARE AT PEACE.

My heart goes to his children. But want to say the memorial was so beautiful today. Thank you cnn for letting the world see it and to the jackson family. God Bless You…We are the world and we need to work together.

  28. Michael Jackson tributes and performances were amazing. It was a privilege to watch the event live on TV. It was a fitting tribute to the greatest entertainer the world has ever seen. Michael had a positive impact on the lives of hundreds of millions of people worldwide.

Michael was the greatest of the greatest, the creme de la creme, the best of the best, copied and imitated but, due to his unique talents, never duplicated. He was a musical legend and genius extraordinaire, a humanitarian way ahead of his time.

Michael will live on forever and he has left indelible footprints in the hearts of all whose lives he touched through his music, performances and his caring, loving, childlike, compassionate and charitable disposition.

  29. Michael was always so angelic, almost as if he was not from this world. He was so misunderstood by many. He was LOVE and because of this many thought negative of him. Michael was pure love; Michael is pure love. He is in a better place now, somewhere not far away, but where he is loved for what he really is. I do feel so bad for his children.
